For many visitors, the southwestern peninsula of mainland Britain is 'different'. Diverse sources of evidence suggest that the Duchy of Cornwall continues to possess traits from a Celtic legacy. This paper outlines perceptions of 'Otherness' which are synonymous with 'Cornishness', thus fitting into the newly developing framework concerned with the authenticity of belief systems and symbolism in the realm of heritage tourism. Hence we review the nexus of relationships between religion and the past regarding the evidence for a Celtic Christian identity over time. To this effect we consider historical sources, such as guidebooks and postcards, before turning to contemporary research, drawing on Visitors' Book comments and the findings from a substantial on-site survey. Moreover, this study fits into wider sociological and ethnographic settings concerned with various issues surrounding Cornish identity.

The use of close-range digital photogrammetry for field documentation has been steadily increasing in the past half decade in several parts of the world. However, this technology has not been widely utilized in archaeological contexts in the American Midwest. We explore the utility of close-range photogrammetry in this region with examples from the Guard site (12D29), a Fort Ancient village located in southeastern Indiana. This article outlines the methods utilized for production of georeferenced 3-D models of several units excavated during the 2016 field season. These models as well as plan and profile orthophotos derived from them act as important supplements to standard photographs and drawings made in the field and easily integrate with the site GIS. Overall, we found close-range digital photogrammetry to be very useful to better document excavation details, doing so for limited cost and time expenditure.

This article addresses, from the perspective of law and literature, major environmental disasters, such as those that occurred in Mariana and Brumadinho, Brazil. The author discusses the relationship between environmental liability and the polluter-pays principle, and critically reflects on the intended full compensation, in the view of the hypothesis of substantial irreparability, due the enormous extent of damages.

We begin at the beginning, with an outline of Aristotle’s views on ontology and with a discussion of the influence of these views on Linnaeus. We move from there to consider the data standardization initiatives launched in the nineteenth century and then turn to investigate how the idea of computational ontologies developed in the AI and knowledge representation communities in the closing decades of the twentieth century. We show how aspects of this idea, particularly those relating to the use of the term “concept” in ontology development, influenced SNOMED CT and other medical terminologies. Against this background, we then show how the Foundational Model of Anatomy, the Gene Ontology, Basic Formal Ontology, and other OBO Foundry ontologies came into existence and discuss their role in the development of contemporary biomedical informatics.
