The linear attenuation coefficients in aqueous solutions of some chlorides and sulphates, viz. MgCl 2 Á 6H 2 O, CaCl 2 , SrCl 2 Á 6H 2 O, BaCl 2 Á 2H 2 O, Na 2 SO 4 , K 2 SO 4 and MgSO 4 Á 7H 2 O were determined at 81, 356, 511, 662, 1173 and 1332 keV by the gray transmission method in a good geometry setup. From the precision measured densities of these solutions, mass attenuation coefficients were then obtained which varied systematically with the corresponding changes in the concentrations (g/cm 3) of these solutions. A comparison between experimental and theoretical values of attenuation coefficients has shown that the study has potential application for the determination of attenuation coefficients of solid solutes from their solutions without obtaining them in pure crystalline form.

In this work, a system for the characterization of materials using transmission and scattering of gamma rays is described and used to assess the attenuation properties of some liquid materials. The apparatus consists of a 45 mCi point source of 124Am and thin NaI (Tl) detector. Measurements are presented for sucrose solutions with densities ranging from 1 to 1.86 g/cm3. For the absorbance, the solution Z (0.66 g/cm3) with the lowest density has higher absorption with chances to attenuate more than some higher density absorber solution like the sucrose (1.37 g/cm3) while sucrose (1.86 g/cm3) solution with the highest density possessing highest absorption and attenuation capabilities. It sets out the criteria which must apply if accurate measurements are to be made and suggests the manner in which the theoretical data is best combined to give realistic comparisons with experimental data .

The linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) and mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) are most important while studying of radiation, radio-isotopes in dosimentry and irradiation of materials. In the present work to calculate linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) and mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) values of different salts samples by using Gamma-ray spectrometry with Photo-Multiplier Tube (PMT) and Multi-Channel Analyzer (MCA). The 0.123, 0.511, 0.662, 1.17, 1.28 and 1.33MeV gamma energy rays used for the experiment in the interaction of some salt samples and compared the Mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) values of salt samples.

Introduction: The photoelectric attenuation coefficient of substances is known to depend upon the energy E of the photon and the effective atomic number of substances (Z eff) as (Z eff x /E y). No definitive values about these indices x, y are given in the literature. The index x is said to lie between, 3.0 and 4.0, while for 'y' different values have been assigned, between 3.0 and 4.0. Methodology: We followed a methodology to find both the exponent y explicitly, from a formula which does not contain x. Through this way, the risk of one parameter leading to an estimation error for the other is automatically eliminated. With the value of y being unmistakably established, we determined the exponent x for different elements. Results: It was found from the NIST data that 'y' = 3.0669 for most substances with low atomic number but no single value can be assigned for the exponent 'x'. Conclusions: These results help us to perform model calculations for the attenuation coefficients of different substances. They can also provide important inputs for the diagnostic purposes in the DECT method.

In this paper we analyze the opinions and attitudes about the end of life among the population residing in Argentina. The data presented are taken from the Second National Survey of Religious Beliefs and Attitudes in Argentina, which was conducted on a multi-stage sample of 2421 cases in 89 districts throughout the country. Opinions about the end of life include positions in favor of performing euthanasia, requesting life extension through life support technologies and leaving death to the will of God. Religious beliefs and affiliations prove to be determining variables in the positions taken by Argentine citizens regarding the end of life, death and euthanasia. Furthermore, among those without any religious affiliation, positions of autonomy over their bodies stand out, in the directions of both prolonging their lives and bringing them to an end, which means that their support of euthanasia can be assumed. The data presented here intend to contribute to the planning of health policies in relation to the end-of-life process. The different views on this process or, in other words, the beliefs, values and needs of patients and their families have a unique relevance that must be considered in the organization of care settings in end-of-life contexts.

El trabajo se propone estudiar los procesos y los acontecimientos económicos, políticos y sociales que se registraron desde 1901 hasta la década de 1960 en la región lacustre del Lago de Xochimilco, para explicar cómo influyeron en la desecación del lago y las consecuencias que este proceso tuvo en la región. Los eventos que se pretenden estudiar giran alrededor de las haciendas y los pueblos que rodearon el Lago de Xochimilco. Del lado norte del Lago, se localizaban los pueblos de San Lorenzo Tezonco, Santiago Zapotitlán, San Francisco Tlaltenco y la hacienda de San Nicolás Tolentino. Del lado occidente del lago se localizaba el pueblo de San Pedro Tláhuac. Del lado Sur, los pueblos de Santiago Tulyehualco, San Luis Tlaxialtemalco, San Gregorio Atlapulco, Santa Cruz Acalpixca y Santa María Nativitas. Por último, del lado oeste estaban las haciendas de la Noria, San Juan de Dios, San Antonio y Coapa. Todos estos pueblos y haciendas estaban dentro de los límites de la región del Lago de Xochimilco, la cual llamo región lacustre. Estos pueblos y haciendas rodearon alguna vez el Lago de Xochimilco y tuvieron beneficios y dificultades con el agua del lago a lo largo de los años. This paper proposes a novel family of pulse width modulation of soft-single-switched dc-dc converters without high voltage and current stresses. These converters do not require any extra switch to achieve soft switching, which considerably simplifies the control circuit. In all converter family members, the switch is turned on under zerocurrent condition and is turned off at almost zero-voltage condition. From the proposed converter family, the boost topology is analyzed, and its operating modes are explained. The proposed circuit is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink.
