The main objective of this project is to avoid the congestion in the car parking area by implementing a parking management system. Normally at public places such as multiplex theaters, market areas, hospitals, function-halls, offices and shopping malls, one experiences the discomfort in looking out for a vacant parking slot, though it’s a paid facility with an attendant/ security guard. The parking management system is proposed to demonstrate hazel free parking for 32 cars, with 16 slots on each of the two floors. The proposed system uses 32 infrared transmitter-receiver pairs that remotely communicate the status of parking occupancy to the microcontroller system and displays the vacant slots on the display at the entrance of the parking so that the user gets to know the availability /unavailability of parking space prior to his/her entry into the parking place. In this system the users are guided to the vacant slot for parking using Bi-colored LEDs and the ultrasonic sensors enable the drivers to park the vehicle safely. The parking charges are automatically deducted from the user’s account using RFID technology. From security point of view a daily log-book of entry/exit along with the vehicle details is also registered in the computer’s memory.Implementation of concept of green communication and exception handling facility make the system concept unique and innovative.
Due to increase in urban population, rapid development and expansion of cities during past decades, their lead higher emphasizes on basic infrastructural services. Transport Sector is an important and valuable part, which can't be ignored for overall development. A well laid road network act as a catalyst and backbone for the development of cities. Thus an effective proper urban planning integrated with transportation planning is required for urban areas. The structure of Indian cities differs from other cities of world, thus to understand the existing structure of transport system, the structure of Indian cities must be understood. India's urban population is 30% of its total population which generate 60% of the Nation's GDP with only 16% of road network in developed cities and catering the demand is one of the major challenges that many Indian cities are facing.
Over the years, there has been lot of changes that has taken place which affects human life. Due to increase in the number of the vehicles in cities have led to major problems such as traffic, pollution, etc. One such problem that is the reason for traffic and disturbance is the parking problem. People usually park their vehicle in an indiscipline manner which leads to informality. Also people usually waste their time and efforts for searching proper space to park their vehicle. The aim of this paper is to resolve this issue related to parking. IoT based system named Automated Parking is implemented which involves sensors for detection of free spaces and LCD's for display purpose. RFID tag for payment purpose. This system allows the user to get the nearest free slot for parking which avoids the wastage of the time and also avoids traffic.

The rapidly growing urban population of India is creating many problems for the cities, vehicle parking being one of the major problems faced almost every day. The number of vehicles is also increasing daily adding to the parking vows at public places. India has more than 40 million vehicles as of 2014. The traffic on roads and parking space has been an area of concern in majority of Indian cities. To avoid these problems, recently many new technologies have been developed that help in solving the parking problems to a great extent. Multi-level car parking system (MLCPS) is one such technology which is implemented in India. It is used for optimum utilization of parking space by utilizing vertical space rather than horizontal space. Some of the benefits of MLCPS are optimum utilization of space, low construction cost, low working and maintenance cost to name a few. Although automated parking(Mathijssen & Pretorius, 2005) [1] like multilevel parking has made the condition a little better than the earlier situation, there is still scope for improvement. This is because people still face problems of space availability, searching time and waiting time in public places like malls, multiplexes, railway stations, shopping streets etc. With the new technology of smart parking, majority of these issues will be solved. Smart parking uses sensors, wireless communication technology, data analytics(Aggarwal, 2011) [2] etc. to solve parking issues. Smart parking solutions can be used to locate available parking space with the help of sensors. This saves customer's time as well as minimizes wastage of fuel. Various technologies are being used to ease parking problems in public places. For example using RFID technology, the check in and checkout time for the vehicle can be reduced and also the payment system can be automated. Similarly using wireless sensors information like parking duration, available slot, billing details, directional details etc. can be obtained which will help the drivers and will thus ease out parking vows. Using GSM, Short message service can also be used to provide drivers with relevant parking information. In another technology which uses QR code, the user can pre book the desired parking space which saves his searching time and also saves fuel. In automated multilevel car parking, the car is lifted and placed at the available slot. This is done with the help of robotics and a lot of software programming.

As technology is evolving day by day everything is getting automated this creates the need for efficient parking systems. We have tried to implement a prototype using IOT. But present parking system have many problems like high operation cost, inefficient management of vehicles, time consuming process of issuing tokens, opening gates manually and collecting money. Thus we are trying to overcome above stated problems by RFID based automatic parking gates. It uses a microcontroller with sensors to monitoring entry and exit of vehicles. The vehicles are allowed entry only they carry authorized RFID tag at the gate. An account in central database is maintained like every valid RFID tag. It enables us to watch and store the time of entry and exit. This system allows automatic authorization of vehicles. Authorization is done faster which will reduce the wait time for cars to enter into parking. It will deduct amount from the customer's account which makes it cashless. These processes allow parking system to work efficiently and need fewer personnel to manage the parking. Thus, the cost of operating the parking system is significantly reduced.
We chose the Intelligent Mode of Parking Management because we feel that parking is a growing problem of urbanization. There is an urgent need to address this menace. At present, most car parking systems do not have any intelligent monitoring system or are monitored by human beings. This Car Parking system indicates the total number of empty and filled parking slots at the entry gate as well as at each crossing inside the parking area. A magnetic sensor is used to sense the entry of a car into the parking system. The boom barrier at the entrance opens only if a parking slot is available. Empty slots are indicated by IR sensors and LEDs. An ultrasonic sensor assists in parking of the vehicle. The entry time, exit time and, photo of each car is recorded to address security concerns. The status of the parking system can also be accessed through a website by the user in the course of the journey. The intelligent mode of parking system can be easily adopted by housing societies, malls, theatres etc. any paid or unpaid parking facility with ease and less cost. The smart car parking system uses the Raspberry Pi Board. This paper describes the details of the technology and software used in the development of the product.
