2025 Wedding Trends: Captivating Venues

The votes are in — ballrooms and barns are out, and unconventional venues are in! In 2025, “couples will move from traditional venues like banquet halls and barns to more unique locations like botanical gardens, vineyards, urban settings, and European hideaways,” says Haley Bossart, owner of Pembroke Lane.

No longer a mere backdrop to a wedding day, venues are becoming an integral part of the celebration as more couples move away from “blank slate” spaces and select properties that define their wedding’s look and feel.

“It is all about enhancing the experience for your guests, and the natural beauty of the space itself is the main attraction,” explains Jose Sotelo, owner of Story Alley Photography. “These spaces come with their own character and history, so minimal decorations are all that’s required.”

This shift in mindset means couples are also finding creative ways to honor and highlight their venue within their wedding design. Stationery and signage are the perfect example of this — Kelley Nudo, director of operations and client relations for Momental Designs, predicts that “custom venue illustrations will be more popular than ever.”

Innovative Takes on Table Design

Since the dawn of wedding planning, there have been two reliable table shapes to choose between — round and rectangle. But in 2025, reception tables are getting a much-needed creative makeover!

“Couples are tired of the standard, traditional seating and want their guests to have an experience,” says Megan Lentz, owner and founder of Vida Events. “Gone are the days of just rounds and rectangles. Serpentines, connected rounds, and restaurant-style seating are headed our way.”

Unconventional layouts are transforming dining spaces into visually striking designs that feel both functional and fresh. As more couples also shift from seated dinners to heavy hors d’oeuvres and food stations, these new table shapes offer a more flexible floor plan.

“The use of various tables gives couples the chance to move in and out of various spaces,” explains Samantha Leenheer, creative director for House of Joy. “Mixing serpentine tables with stacked round tables makes a space more interesting and fun. Couples looking for more unique dining experiences will embrace the curvature of these table design concepts.”

Beyond innovative shapes, couples are incorporating experiential elements into their table designs to elevate the guest experience and inspire intimate conversations. Think:

  • Shareable centerpieces
  • Edible decor
  • Personalized place settings
  • Conversation starter cards

More than just a place to sit, reception tables are becoming an outlet for couples to express their style and cultivate connection between guests.

Dramatic Draping

From creating ambiance to hiding unsightly fixtures, draping is a versatile design element that can fit into any setting. In the new year, more is more — layering fabric brings a lush and dramatic feel that couples will love in 2025.

“Draping has always been a great design tool, but layering the draping creates a broader, sweeping design,” Leenheer explains. “It really lends itself to a layered design concept and makes a space more unique than it has been used in the past. We’re seeing this layered draping and fabric on the tables, with the use of more oversized, flowing table linens that are draped and bunched to reflect this same trend.”

In addition to table linens, consider layering hanging drapes for the ultimate wow effect. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors and textures to achieve a one-of-a-kind look!

Dinner Stations

It seems like seated dinners are fading from the forefront as more couples opt for a “mingling cocktail-style reception,” reveals Casey Cannon, owner of EBJ & Company

“They want to let guests eat at their own pace and encourage conversation to enhance the overall experience,” she explains. So, what does that look like? Instead of ten or twenty guest tables set up, “imagine a variety of stations with all different cuisines, often speaking to the couple’s favorite items or even a nod to places they have traveled.”

In addition to delicious food, action stations provide entertainment value for guests as they work their way through the space. It’s also a great way to accommodate those with food allergies and sensitivities, as they can pick what goes on their plate.

Sculptural Cakes

Wedding cakes are no longer just about picking flavors and colors! Instead, they are becoming full-on masterpieces that will draw all eyes to the cake table.

Craig Peterman, owner of Craig Peterman Photography & Videography, predicts that couples will embrace “bold, geometric designs, metallic finishes, and textures that look straight out of a contemporary art gallery.”

“Couples are gravitating toward cakes that aren’t just desserts but showstopping focal points, tying into their overall aesthetic,” he says. “A sculptural cake isn’t just a sweet ending; it’s a conversation starter that doubles as decor (and a delicious one at that).”

Whether it’s an unconventional shape or a dramatic floral arrangement, expect wedding cakes to be bigger and better than ever in 2025 (and more cake is never a bad thing!).

Top-tier Entertainment

Today’s couples are raising the bar when it comes to wedding entertainment, transforming their celebrations into full-scale productions to wow their guests. Beyond a typical band or DJ, expect weddings to pull out all the stops with specialty AV services.

For example, “LED walls will be big in weddings starting in 2025, with more DJ stage designs incorporating them to create seamless interactive light shows with images and even videos and photos of the couple in real-time,” reveals Michael Coombs, owner of Michael Coombs Entertainment.

But high-tech touches aren’t the only way to elevate your guest entertainment. Interactive experiences are becoming more common additions to enhance the celebratory feel. Here are a few other ideas to spark your creativity:

  • Live painters
  • Roaming musicians
  • Acrobatic performers
  • Magicians
  • Choreographed dances
  • Tarot card readers
  • Silent discos

Wedding Content Creators

Social media has transformed how couples share their wedding day, but it’s not just about personalized hashtags and photo filters anymore! More and more couples are hiring content creators to capture their big day alongside their professional photography and videography team.

“These professionals focus on capturing behind-the-scenes moments, candid reels, and ‘viral-worthy’ videos for social media,” explains Jaclyn Watson, owner of Jaclyn Watson Events. “They are able to provide same-day edits for platforms like Instagram and TikTok. This stems from wanting to have keepsake moments but with immediate gratification.”

Unlike traditional photographers and videographers, “content creators are all about keeping things fast, fun, and ultra-shareable,” Peterman notes. “Couples want their big day to live on beyond the professional highlight reel.”

By hiring both types of professionals, you can ensure your wedding is preserved through multiple lenses that allow you to share photos instantly on your big day and for years in your home!

Informal Wedding Parties

Going into 2025, more couples are choosing to forgo traditional wedding parties, opting instead for celebrations without designated bridesmaids or groomsmen.

Stacie Marshall, owner of Marshall Arts Photography, elaborates, noting that “instead of bridesmaids and groomsmen in matching outfits at the altar, close friends attend as guests and are treated to the wedding experience without added costs or obligations.”

This approach allows everyone to focus on enjoying the day without the pressure of coordinating outfits, scheduling rehearsals, or spending money on pre-wedding events. But that doesn’t mean you can’t include your inner circle throughout the festivities!

“Consider inviting some friends to get ready with you, or have them meet you for a few photos before the ceremony and a celebratory glass of champagne before you walk down the aisle,” Cannon suggests.

Here are some other ways to include your closest friends and family in the celebration:

  • Invite them to enjoy a pre-wedding brunch or spa outing together.
  • Ask them to give a reading at the ceremony or a toast at the reception.
  • Honor them with a special seating area for VIPs at the ceremony.
  • Thank them during your toast at the reception.

Skipping this tradition can make the wedding experience feel more inclusive and stress-free, ensuring that everyone feels celebrated without the formalities (or expenses!) of a traditional wedding party.

Throwback Fashion

From the bohemian elegance of the ‘70s to the sleek minimalism of the ‘90s, vintage fashion trends offer a goldmine of inspiration for couples to express their personal style. And it seems like more couples are taking a page out of their history books when picking out their wedding attire!

“Iconic vintage styles are gaining attention for 2025, including boxy dresses adorned with luxurious details like ostrich feather trims,” reveals Mary Angelini, founder of Key Moment Films. “These designs combine a vintage-inspired aesthetic with a touch of modern elegance, making them a standout choice for fashion-forward brides.”

Vijay Goel, COO of Bite Catering Couture, predicts a shift toward New York fashion. “Formalwear, including tails and tuxedos, is likely to fit black and white or white and gold type themes,” he notes. “Even here on the West Coast, we were already seeing a trend toward more classic themes, and we’re likely to see that trend accelerate.”

Brides are opting for features like bell sleeves, vintage lace, and high necklines, while grooms are bringing back double-breasted suits, velvet blazers, and pocket watches. But the throwback trend isn’t limited to the couple — wedding parties and even guests are getting in on the fun!

By embracing some of yesteryear’s fashion trends, you can create a wedding look that feels timeless, sentimental, and full of personality — the perfect recipe for a celebration that captures your unique love story.

As weddings continue to evolve, 2025 will bring trends that showcase a fresh take on curating a celebration that focuses on personalized details and meaningful connections. More than ever, couples are finding new ways to plan a big day that reflects their special bond, opting for personality over popularity in every aspect.
