Koen Byttebier
Koen Byttebier holds a law degree (University of Ghent 1989) and a doctoral degree with a dissertation on hostile take-overs (University of Ghent 1992).
Since 1994, Koen Byttebier is professor of law at the Department of Economic Law of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (of which he is also the head of department).
He started his academic career at the University of Ghent in 1989. In 1992 he was appointed as post-doctoral researcher at the University of Ghent for two years, before joining the University of Brussels (VUB) in 1994 as a full staf member of its Law Faculty.
His field of specialization is Economic Law, Commercial and Company Law, Monetary and Financial Law and Insolvency and collateral Law.
At present, he teaches "commercial law", "monetary and financial law", "insolvency law" and "M&A-law".
He has written several textbooks and numerous articles in his chosen field of specialization and speaks regularly at national and international conferences. He conceived and series editor of the Publications of the Centre for Economic Law (Maklu/Kluwer). He is on the editorial board of several law magazines.
He is regularly invited as a speaker on various subjects of economic, financial and commercial law, including company law.
In 1996, he began his career as a practicing lawyer, and started his own law firm in 1999. As a practicing lawyer, he is a member of the Belgian law firm "Everest".
In his law practice, he esp. advises national and / or Flemish governmental agencies for which he has done all kinds of re-structuring operations, written drafts of laws of Parliament and / or decrees and given legal opinions on several matters of law.
