An attempt has been made in making of hybrid composite comprising of bi-directional plain weaved Kevlar, S-glass and E-glass fibers reinforcements and epoxy matrix by vacuum bagging and hand layup methods. Few tests such as Hardness, Impact strength and Inter-laminar shear strength tests are conducted as per ASTM standards. Characterization of composites was carried out using SEM to analyze the material bonding, defects and failure behavior under load conditions. S-glass composite outperformed other composites performing better in all the test conditions but when combined with Kevlar the reduction in property is minimal and even microstructural study showed bonding of S-glass and Kevlar hybrids compared to S-glass is acceptable
Polymer matrix composite is a material consisting of a polymer (resin) matrix combined with a fib... more Polymer matrix composite is a material consisting of a polymer (resin) matrix combined with a fibrous reinforcing dispersed phase. Polymer Matrix Composites are very popular due to their low cost and simple fabrication methods. Use of non-reinforced polymers as structure materials is limited by low level of their mechanical properties: tensile strength of one of the strongest polymers-epoxy resin is 20000 psi (140 MPa). In addition to relatively low strength, polymer materials possess low impact resistance. Two main kinds of polymers are thermosets and thermoplastics. Thermosets have qualities such as a well-bonded three-dimensional molecular structure after curing. They decompose instead of melting on hardening. Merely changing the basic composition of the resin is enough to alter the conditions suitably for curing and determine its other characteristics. They can be retained in a partially cured condition too over prolonged periods of time, rendering Thermosets very flexible. Thus, they are the most suited as matrix bases for advanced conditions fiber reinforced composites. Thermosets find wide ranging applications in the chopped fiber composites form particularly when a premixed or molding compound with fibers of specific quality and aspect ratio happens to be starting material as in epoxy, polymer and phenolic polyamide resins. Thermoplastics have one-or twodimensional molecular structure and they tend to at an elevated temperature and show exaggerated melting point. Another advantage is that the process of softening at elevated temperatures can reversed to regain its properties during cooling, facilitating applications of conventional compress techniques to mold the compounds.

In some applications like gas turbine engines where the requirements are thermal management, electrical conductivity and erosion withstanding capabilities to name a few, PMC's are yet to make a mark. In this context, coatings of various kinds and methods are in use. This article focuses on review of literature of such coatings for PMC's to enhance above mentioned properties by considering few applications. The applications of coatings for polymer composites range from biological applications like antibacterial applications to engineering applications like erosion resistance, wear resistance, thermal spray coatings to mention a few. PMC's are finding a majority of applications these days due to their unique advantages. Some of the industries using PMC's extensively are automobile, aerospace and construction industries.

The constituents must be considered appropriate proportions for the desired properties in the final laminate prepared. Compared to other manufacturing methods of making polymer matrix composites, Resin transfer molding (RTM) allows better control over complex geometries and parts with larger diversities. The mold design becomes an important aspect of the process in RTM as the process is automated and quality of the part made depends on the design of the system. This work focuses on product design approach to designing and fabrication of mold for manufacturing fiber reinforced plastic laminates which is free from vacuum leakage. Although the RTM method is an old method, not much of the literature on optimum designing of the system is available. Product design approach is used in this work as it helps problem solving in a systematic way.

All engineering students undergo a complete course on engineering drawing where orthographic projections are taught. In orthographic projections, the students are asked to imagine a 3D situation and make the 2D orthographic projection drawing. This part of 3D imagination and converting it into orthographic projection is difficult for students to mentally visualize. To ease the student's imagination, An Augmented Reality solution is developed jointly by BMSCE and Bosch (RBEI), Bangalore. A powerful 3D graphics association has been developed which forms the primary source of developing the drawing as orthographic projections that is viewable in 3D in real world. The current article focuses on the importance of AR in engineering education and its benefits.

This can be done effectively only after detailed studies have been carried out in the various areas of manufacturing sciences, i.e.: forging, material removal using machine tools, casting, forming, etc. Material removal using machine tools is a relatively expensive process, which is labor intensive and depends on the skill of the laborer. In recent times the focus is shifting to CNC machines due to its inherent advantages. Hence studying the parameters affecting the surface finish of a component in a CNC machine is of utmost importance. Various parameters which affect the surface roughness will be considered with enough variations in the parameters to arrive at a conclusive result. Of course, the parameters having more influence on the surface roughness will be given more importance. In this study, the effect of various cutting parameters on the surface...

It aims at the study of general trends in engineering education through time, from the point of view of scientific spirit-curiosity, experimentation, repeatability and precision. Here, an undergraduate degree comprising both science and engineering is proposed, and the same is examined from various perspectives, which are arrived at on the basis of statistical evidence. The study conducted (survey) clearly establishes the need to bridge science and engineering. The survey was based on four criteria - performing experiments, student bodies (technical clubs), external sources for learning, and pure science subjects taught in engineering. More than 60% of the survey-takers, i.e. students, converged on the need for an undergraduate degree comprising science and engineering. Some important specifications of such a degree, shaped from the survey, are as follows: Its duration can be about four years; research and skill development should be its primary focus; all engineering institutions have to offer it.
