Vicki Milewski is an American Artist working in Abstract Experientialism with oils, photography, film, words and music. Vicki’s art is internationally collected and exhibited. Vicki’s music for choirs and solo piano is nationally performed. Vicki is also a published writer of articles, essays and poems; her book A White River Valley is just completed. Galaudet Gallery began a new four year art series called Sense of Place. Each year will bring ex... more Galaudet Gallery began a new four year art series called Sense of Place. Each year will bring explorations into a different perspective of place with this essay and the first year looking at HERE (SOPH), the second year investigates THERE, the third year is EVERYWHERE and the fourth year is NOWHERE. This four year art series has at its core Galaudet Gallery’s efforts to revitalize the Arts and Crafts Movement for the 21st Century and move art forward through explorations in aesthetic experiences and the alchemy of curating.

It is in this freedom that SOPH artists and curators begin to form a new “partnership of sight” between each viewer of art and each artist with the artwork creating the insurrection to make such a partnership, the connection to form such a partnership, the revolution to create such a partnership and the dreaming we all enjoy since as we are free so too is dreaming. This new found “partnership of sight” experience ushers in the discoveries of new frontiers in aesthetic experiences.

Practicing Eternity with Mircea Eliade, Oscar Howe and Vicki Milewski

Through curating an art exhibit, the authors find similarities in thinking about different levels... more Through curating an art exhibit, the authors find similarities in thinking about different levels of our current reality and how accessing these levels could solve metaphysical problems we are currently trying to solve. The two main artists: Oscar Howe and Vicki Milewski both use art as a vehicle to communicate their experiences of different levels of reality and the traditional ontologies which still drive our culture. Informing these ideas is philosopher Mircea Eliade's goal of solving metaphysical problems through a renewal that includes “knowledge of archaic ontology.” This renewal will also need knowledge of new levels of our reality, “inaccessible” to Eliade in 1949 but “starting to be communicated” as Galaudet Gallery curators see it in 2016 with these and other artists who were juried into their exhibit My Medicine Part 3: The New Medicine

Where My Food Comes From Collection Part One: The Receiving Jar Dairy Farming in the 21st Centur... more Where My Food Comes From Collection Part One: The Receiving Jar Dairy Farming in the 21st Century explores food production sustainability through artworks focused on the relationship between us and the food system we have created. Dairy farming is the center of Part One and its heart as seen in the milk house receiving jar--since all milk flows into the jar after milking to be re- oxygenated in preparation for transporting it to market. The agricultural pursuits toward the business of milking cows, which at times seems contradictory—unsustainable and then the land seems to be there for such use is explored. The journey of this collection moves from the corn fields at dawn to the barn and milk house and then into research to uncover the history of modern dairy farming to see if its future lies there as well. There is also a metaphysical journey I continue to make to better understand where my food comes from. As an artist I seek to understand our world, life and love through my artwork with freedom, truth, family and community as my foundation.
