Clean Up Your Kitchen, Clean Up Your Life

Share

As a life coach, I’m all about creating positive transformations in every area of your life, and today, I want to talk about a powerful yet often overlooked change: removing sugar from your kitchen.

Sugar is everywhere — hidden in processed foods, snacks, drinks, and even foods that you might assume are healthy.

From energy crashes and mood swings to long-term health risks like weight gain and chronic inflammation, sugar can be a silent saboteur of your health goals.

It might seem like a small step, but it can be one of the most impactful decisions you make for your overall health, well-being, and mindset. Let’s explore how taking sugar out of your home can bring you clarity, energy, and a renewed sense of control over your life.

Declutter Your Kitchen, Declutter Your Mind

When we clear physical clutter, we often create mental space as well. The same applies to your kitchen. Having sugary snacks, processed treats, and sugary drinks visible and within reach creates unnecessary temptation. Every time you open the pantry or fridge, you’re faced with the decision to indulge in something that might not serve your health or well-being.

By removing sugar, you’re not only cleaning up your kitchen, but you’re also simplifying your environment. This allows you to make clearer, more intentional decisions about what you’re putting in your body. It helps reduce mindless eating, and over time, it encourages a shift towards more mindful, nourishing choices.

1. Focus on What You Can Add, Not Just What You Remove

The process of removing sugar doesn’t have to be about deprivation — it’s about making room for what nourishes you. Instead of focusing on what you’re taking away, shift your mindset to what you can add to your kitchen to create balance and energy.

2. Start with Protein

Protein not only provides your body with essential nutrients but will also help you feel more satisfied and less prone to cravings.

Make a plan to get 100g of protein per day. 30g at each meal and 10g for your snack.

These two rules have served me well for 5 years now, and has changed the way I approach meal planning, grocery buying, and snacking/dealing with sugar cravings. When we focus on getting protein in you’ll be full longer, and it becomes more about new ways to get in protein instead of how to stay away from all “bad” foods.

An easy way to ease into getting more protein is to supplement with a protein shake. And I don’t know about where you are, but it’s been so cold here. One of the last things I want is a cold protein shake in the morning to make me even more cold…so instead I like to start my day with a hot protein drink. It’s the perfect way to get warmed up for a walk or run while also getting protein.

Make the Change, One Step at a Time

Removing sugar from your kitchen might feel like a challenge at first, but with each step, you’ll notice how much better you feel.

Take it one step at a time: start by eliminating the most obvious sugary foods, then gradually replace them with healthier options. This simple act of decluttering your kitchen can spark a ripple effect, leading to positive changes in your physical health, emotional well-being, and mindset.
