The study is conducted for the period of 1989-2016 and comprised both the pre-and post-liberalisation era. The paper employed the Vector Autoregressive methodology. The use of the financial liberalisation dummy gives a better insight into the impact of financial liberalization on the integration of markets. The result showed there is no long-run relationship between the selected stock exchange markets. The result further showed evidence of short-run dynamics between stock exchange markets. The generalized impulse response functions showed that all the markets responded from shock. The financial liberalization dummy is positive and significant and implied its impact on the integration of the markets. The paper concluded that the stock markets are not fully integrated. As such, investors who have long-term investment plans can diversify their portfolios across the three selected stock markets.

Organizations are investing a lot on the practices to mitigate the negative outcomes of operational risks. In line with this, current study focuses on the effect of operational risk management on the performance of Saving and credit cooperative microfinance (SACCM) in Thailand. Based on the agency theory and system theory, this study has proposed a conceptual model to examine operational risk as a critical factor on the performance of microfinance cooperative service providers. A comprehensive research methodology is designed based on the context of the study. The proposed respondents of this research are managers and senior officers particularly in the risk and operations departments in saving and credit cooperative microfinance in Thailand. The results from this studied have shown that people risk and internal process risk were significantly and positively related to corporate governance and impact on performance of SACCM. The data used for this study are limited and applicable to SACCM in Thailand. The study findings may relate to financial and non-financial firms, managers, researchers, financial analysts, governments, accountants and stakeholders. Also, present research will give new insight to the researchers and will help them to consider the proposed model to implement and generalize in different settings.

Methodology: The survey questionnaires were distributed to 455 respondents, all of whom were senior officers of saving and credit cooperative microfinance service providers (MSPs) in Thailand, using a quantitative technique. The data analysis was performed employing SmartPLS software version 3.0 and the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method. Main Findings: The result indicates that cooperative microfinance performance is significantly affected. Here, specialization moderates the relationship between ORM and cooperative microfinance performance. Research limitations/implications: The survey used a cross-sectional design by only examining credit and saving cooperative MSPs. It employed a quantitative method and relied o...

The existing financing under the common conventional mortgages may need to be studied to move towards Musharakah Mutanaqisah (MM) provided under Islamic financing. The simulation indicates that MM could deliver a much stable and affordable platform for buyers as the financing is on a sharing basis because the risk will be shared between the financier and the buyer. The finding also demonstrates the possibility of changing to MM as both parties could benefit even if the buyer faces total default. This simulation highlights the possibilities of alternative home financing and promoting affordable homeownership.

This study investigates the impact of HIV prevalence rate and AIDS on aggregate labour productivity at the macroeconomy level in sub-Saharan Africa, using panel data from 1990-2013. The analysis considers both the instantaneous effect shown by HIV and the effect after the disease converts to AIDS. The sensitivity of the results was also examined within two sub-samples. System generalised method of moments (GMM) estimator was used in the estimation. HIV prevalence has significant negative effect on aggregate labour productivity in both the full sample and the two sub-samples. AIDS has a positive influence on aggregate labour productivity in the full sample and Eastern and Southern Africa sub-sample. This is, however, not beneficial. Rather, it is detrimental, as it was attributable to reduce availability of labour due to increase in mortality.

It is becoming even more crucial, particularly for universities in Malaysia with the recent budget cut imposed by the Malaysian government. In this paper, we illustrated how 0-1 integer programming (0-1 IP) model was implemented to select which activities among the forty activities proposed by the student body of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) to be implemented for the 2017/2018 academic year. Two different models were constructed. The first model was developed to determine the minimum total budget that should be given to the student body by the UUM management to conduct all the activities that can fulfill the minimum targeted number of activities as stated in its strategic plan. On the other hand, the second model was developed to determine which activities to b...

This, motivated the regulatory authorities and several authors in the field and especially in emerging economies in an effort to foster SMEs access to financing. These regulatory authorities employed microfinance institutions as mechanism in dealing with the issue of financial exclusion. Review of the literature revealed that previous studies documented evidence on the connection between SMEs growth and its determinants. Though moderately few studies have struggled to consider the connection between social capital and the growth of SMEs. Hence, this paper is a proposed framework on the influence of loan, savings and social capital on the growth of SMEs in Nigeria. The framework is developed based on the Resource Based Theory (RBT) and Theory of Social Capital.

However, most studies examine the impact of micro credit on some narrow indicators of well-being such as income, poverty, education and health. While these indicators do measure and represent the standard of living of the society, and are important development objectives, they focus only on the material aspect of well-being. Therefore, it does not really shed light on whether micro credit is associated with quality of life which is the subjective aspect of economic development. This gives rise to the question on whether micro credit also leads to better quality of life. This paper attempts to answer this question by encompassing the investigation not only on the impact of micro credit and its domains loan...

The Poisson regression model is used as the method of analysis. 195 SMEs in North-Eastern Nigeria form the sample of the study based on two-stage sampling and simple random sampling technique. The results reveal that Social ties, Location, and Nature of operation have a significant positive relationship with the Number of loans receives by SMEs. Similarly, the Number of training and Trust have significant positive impact on the Number of loans received; however, they demonstrate the least impact as compared with the other variables based on the level of significance.
