Khondaker Mamun
I am Khondaker Abdullah-Al-Mamun, doing research towards Ph.D. at HABC, Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), University of Southampton, UK and expected to complete by April 2012. My PhD research topic is feature extraction, selection and pattern identification of movement related states in bio-signals. In my research, I successfully developed a wavelet based feature extraction and classification method for identifying tongue movement commands from tongue movement ear pressure (TMEP) signal in adverse environment for designing an assistive human machine interface. Also analysed the wavelet method to extract feature and recognize pattern for identifying upper limb movements from Basal ganglia (Subthalamic Nucleus (STN) or Globus Pallidus interna (GPi)) local field potentials (LFPs) in patients with Parkinson diseases. I have extended wavelet based method with incorporating neural synchronisation feature based on Granger causality analysis and designed an efficient feature extraction and pattern recognition algorithm for identifying movements from STN or GPi LFPs in applications to neural interface system. Finally to improve the pattern recognition ability for high dimensional, small sample size dataset, I have developed an efficient strategy for feature selection.
I have completed my Bachelor and Master degrees in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) from the Department of CSE of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh respectively. Before starting my PhD, I worked five years in the department of CSE, AUST, Bangladesh as a faculty member and one year in the Department of Computer Engineering, College of Computer and Information Sciences, King Saud University (KSU), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as a researcher.
During my carrier, I adapted several signal processing and machine learning methods for analysing bio-signals such as speech, TMEP and LFPs. Also have little experience to analyse EEG and fMRI. These experience and knowledge have given me strength to work further. My broader research interest includes Signal and Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Machine learning, Feature Extraction and Classification of Biomedical signals, Brain Machine Interface (BMI), and Computational Neuroscience. During my research carrier, I have published a number of journal and conference papers, a list of those can be found in my website https://sites.google.com/site/khondakeralmamun/. I have also attended many seminars and international conferences as a presenter.
