To start, it must be specified that bacterial cutaneous infections represent an important cause of morbidity, constituting the reason for the most frequent dermatological consultation in childhood. The term cellulitis encompasses the inflammatory states, not necessarily infectious, of numerous soft parts of the organism without precise anatomoclinical substratum. It can be added that the difference between erysipelas and cellulite is the absence of marked limits. Cellulite is often associated with the presence of ulcers, wounds, scratching injuries and other dermatoses as well as wounds (surgical or traumatic) and ulcers (due to pressure in the elderly, especially in the sacral area or vascular ulcers). The cellulite symptoms represent an important cause of morbidity, hospitalization and, occasionally, mortality in the general population. The results showed that cellulite was found in 67% of patients with soft tissue infections, that is, it is the most prevalent of infections. Of the total of patients with cellulitis, most of them were in the age group between 20-39 years, representing 40% of these. The distribution of the location of infections was found more frequently in the lower extremities, corresponding to 86% of these patients, 10% to the location in the upper extremities, 3% in the neck and 1% in the abdomen. It was concluded that cellulitis is the soft tissue infection most commonly diagnosed both in Ecuador and worldwide.
