The research methodology used is based on the analysis and synthesis of information from the scientific literature on air pollution, identification of sources of air pollutants and their implications for human health. The principal research method used in the paper is content analysis. The importance of this publication is to expand and improve the content of the literature in the domain. The contributors point out that air pollution is currently the highest environmental risk affecting human health. Every year, this type of pollution causes around 400,000 premature deaths in the European Union and causes various illnesses: respiratory, strokes and lung diseases, cardiovascular, liver and blood diseases. Emissions of air pollutants are mainly the result of human actions: heating of homes, road...

Ecological farming aims to develop agriculture sustainably, to increase economic activities, and to increase interest in the development of rural areas by protecting the environment and by harnessing natural resources in a sustainable way. The authors of this article present the situation of ecological farming in Romania compared to other countries in Europe, i.e., the areas under ecological cultivation and the number of registered ecological farmers in Romania. Analysis of statistic data shows that both the area under ecological cultivation and the number of ecological farmers are on a growing trend in Romania. Ecological farming is a dynamic sector in Romania that has seen an upward trend in recent years, both in the vegetable sector and in the livestock sector.

Given the limited size of the EU budget, cohesion and regional development policies face fundamental challenges due to the widening of economic and social disparities. The experience of the former socialist countries shows that the transition deepened the regional disparities as new market forces gradually replaced the factors controlling the economy. The basic question is whether, after a period of increasing regional disparities, a long-term “spatial economic convergence” process will be launched. Through European funds are funded projects that contribute to the development of less advanced areas, through investments for economic and social cohesion, in key areas, so our purpose is to clarify the main categories of investments and instruments to support rural development.

It has been cultivated on the territory of our country for a very long time. One cannot accurately determine how long this culture has been known and used by the ancestors of the Romanian nation. It is known that it has been grown on large areas, in all Romanian villages, to obtain textile fibbers. There is no peasant household that does not have a hemp parcel, because it was a raw material, the basic source for obtaining cloths manually woven by housewives and to make clothing or other products used in peasant households (towels, bags, sheets, covers, ropes, strings, etc.). After 1990, because legislation stated that this plant is the basis for drugs, hemp cultures have greatly reduced and they are almost endangered. The authors of this article aim at highlighting that, by modern methods of use, of processing, hemp is the only plant from which stems, seeds, and leaves can be a very profitable crop that deserves more attention from Romanian farmers.

Increasing air quality, energy security, as well as increasing employment and developing the business environment are the main objectives to be achieved by promoting renewable energies. Geothermal energy is part of the renewable energies class, i.e. green energy. Geothermal resources include the heat retained in the soil at a small depth, the warm water found a few kilometres from the Earth's subsurface and the extremely high temperature of the melted magma located deep in the ground. In this respect, statistics confirm that Romania has a high potential for geothermal energy, is considered the third country in Europe, after Greece and Italy. The studies and analyses carried out in this regard by the authors of this work highlight that the location of these geothermal resources in Western Romania (Banat, Apuseni Mountains, etc.) could be an important opportunity for the development of the local communities in the area, benefiting from geothermal resources.

The reason for choosing this theme, of rural development, comes from the particular characteristics of this issue in current life and the major importance of this topic in our life. The study aims to point out some specific principles and characteristics of sustainable development, as a review from different sources. Over the next few years, increasing importance will be given to achieving the sustainable development of rural areas, this responding to the demands of ecological services.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) affects every area of human life, including the environment. Measures taken to control the spread of the virus and the slowdown in economic activities have significant positive effects on the environment. Through this study, the authors intend to track the impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the environment by analyzing the available scientific literature. The study indicates that the pandemic situation significantly improves air quality in various cities around the world, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, reduces water pollution and noise, and reduces pressure on tourist destinations, which can help restore ecological systems. It is noted that there are some negative consequences of the pandemic, such as the increase in medical waste through the use and disposal of disinfectants, masks and gloves but also the burden of untreated waste that endangers the environment continuously. It seems that shortly after the pandemic the economic activities will return and the situation could change. Therefore, this study highlights the potential positive impacts of the pandemic on the environment in the long-term. It is expected that the correct implementation of the proposed strategies can be useful for the global sustainability of the environment.

Thus, appropriate measures and policies are needed to ensure the sustainable development of the country’s economic sectors, including production models, in order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The paper’s primary purpose is to highlight some of the issues that have a negative impact on environmental sustainability and climate change in our country. Industry, the energy sector, agriculture, illegal logging in Romania, or waste are just some of the sectors requiring urgent reform for a more sustainable and healthier environment. The authors analyzed ”Romania’s country report” 2020, where we discovered many issues related to pollution, and environment degradation, but the “National Recovery and Resilience Plan," 2021, comes to the rescue with 1.3 billion Euro investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency, 1.5 billion Euro investments for Romania's afforestation and biodiversity protection, 1.3 billion Euro for waste management. In this sense, the authors propose that investors consider the “National Recovery and Resilience Plan," 2021, which finances various activities to reduce the impact on environmental degradation and climate change.

From a technical point of view, any physical, biological, or chemical change in the atmosphere can be called air pollution and occurs when any harmful gas, dust, or smoke enters the atmosphere and affects plants, animals, and humans. The authors conducted this case study in the suburbs of Timisoara, for five working days, from 05.24. 2021 to 05.28.2021. For the analyzed period, we also investigated the pollution caused by this traffic coming from the suburbs. In the end, the authors came up with a series of conclusions and recommendations.
