Yiannis Bakouros is a Professor of Technology Management and Innovation at the University of Western Macedonia, since 2003. He is a Chemical Engineer, graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in 1981 and took his Doctoral title in the field of Technological Management in 1988 from the University of Bradford in England. He is the head of the Department of Regional Development and Cross Border Studies and the former head of the Regional Council of Research and Innovation of Western Macedonia. He served, from 1992 to 2003, as Ass. Professor at the University of Thessaly and that period he was responsible for the development of Thessaly Technology Park and the Innovative Actions and Innovation Strategy of the Region of Thessaly.He worked as production and sales manager in industrial, commercial and consultancy enterprises. He served as a member of the board of directors and as technical advisor to big textile manufacturing companies. He was director and person in charge of the development of Thessaloniki Technology Park (TTP), and the establishment of its Training Centre with emphasis to the education of engineers in methodologies and mechanisms for transfer of technology. He heavily contributed to the creation of European and Greek technological networks, to the promotion of innovation and diffusion of technology in the area of SE Europe. He was the first representative of TTP in the Greek Innovation Relay Center, which he was one of the founders. He also served as chairman of the 32 European National Coordinators of EYREKA initiative during the Greek Presidency.He has long experience in the growth of innovation management tools, of business support, entrepreneurship and promotion of innovation, through the execution of a long series of Research and Development Projects as Coordinator or Research. These projects were drawn and executed either in Greece or in Western Europe or in other geographical parts, mainly in Eastern Europe and the Balkans and were focused on his main research activities such as Management of Technology, Regional Growth, Clusters, Regional Strategies of Innovation, National Innovation Policies, Development of Science and Technology Parks, Innovation Poles, Networks of Management of Information, Reliability, Maintenance, Industrial Safety.Now days he is a Professor of the University of Western Macedonia,responsible for the observatory of innovation, spin - offs action and virtual Technopolis of Western Macedonia and scientific coordinator of numerous (more than a hundred) EU and National projects on Regional Development, Risk Management and Innovation and Technology Management. He has published a great number of articles and a number of books in all the above-mentioned fields. His latest book with the title “Innovation and Entrepreneurship, from Theory to Practice” was published in 2010.
