Online multi-stage assignments provide students with opportunities to submit and share their work over an extended period in social sharing spaces such as blogging and discussion forums. This study explores the challenges experienced by students while completing online multi-stage assignments and the processes of self-regulated learning students engaged with to overcome such challenges. We present interview data from three qualitative case studies involving 34 students across two Australian universities. The results show all students experienced challenges while working on multi-stage assignments. Students engaged with both online and offline social cues to regulate their learning and overcome task challenges. We discuss the design implications and provide recommendations for further research.

Data about the implementation phase is currently being collected in the form of classroom observations, anonymous student work samples and interviews with teachers. This information provides baseline data that will become the basis for a longitudinal study of this technology innovation. Preliminary ...

Learning designs, which describe a sequence o f learning activities, together with the necessary resources and supports, can serve as a framework which a teacher can then adapt to suit the needs o f his or her students. The paper draws on an ongoing study o f university teachers using learning designs to design their subjects to highlight reusability issues and outline what further research is necessary..

We'd like to thank the selection committee representing the ascilite executive and the AJET editorial board for the confidence they have shown in us in appointing us to this role for the next three years. Our first and most important task is to acknowledge the contribution of outgoing editors Dr Roger Atkinson and Associate Professor Catherine McLoughlin and to thank them for their work together over the past 10 years. We'd particularly like to acknowledge the contribution of Roger Atkinson as AJET production editor for more than 15 years. The very strong position AJET finds itself in, with a high volume of submissions and the quality and scholarly impact of articles, is in no small measure attributable to the work of Roger, Catherine, and their predecessor as editor prior to 2002, Professor Ron Oliver. We'd like to highlight the new editorial team structure we have put in place, which consists of ourselves

Journal metrics broadly refer to the various measures of quality or impact of a journal, largely based on the number of articles published in the journal itself and citations in other journals to articles published in the journal. As well as being used to rank the journals themselves, metrics are often used as a proxy measure of the quality of articles in a particular journal, and thus individual researchers' publication lists. For example, it is common for researchers to refer to the impact factor of the journals in which they have published as part of grant applications. The three most well known journal metric sources are the Thomson Routers Journal Citation Reports (previously known as the ISI Journal Citation Reports), Google Scholar Metrics, and Scopus Journal Analyser. Each of these sources includes a number of metrics or indices that use specific algorithms drawing on data within their own databases of journals, articles and citations. The following paragraphs explain the key metrics used by these sources.

Authors new to publishing in the educational technology field have sometimes found this difficult because their searches for articles relating specifically to the particular innovation they are focussing on locate very few examples. We suggest some ways of thinking about what kinds of literature might be relevant and, consequently, some useful literature searching strategies.
