Heritage textiles represent bridges between past and present , kept in collections from different types of buildings. Many of them are preserved and exposed in heritage buildings that are open for public viewing and do not benefit from internal microclimate monitoring systems. These things can have serious repercussions on the integrity and conservation status of these fragile materials. The chapter proposes to analyze the approaches used in different studies to evaluate the risks to which the historical textile collections from Romania are exposed, depending on the place and the way in which they are kept. All these approaches aim to determine the degree of conservation of the materials and their implications on the health of the people with whom they come into contact. Based on the methodology applied in the studies already published, examined in the first part of the chapter, in the second part, a case study was performed on a different sample of historical textiles from Romania. This comes to complete the sphere of knowledge in the field.

For a better accuracy of the analysis, a combination of these methods has been proposed. The authors selected few Romanian folk motifs (embroidered on blouses, skirts called “poale”, front aprons called “zadii”, sleeveless vest) from Bihor, Arad, and Maramures Counties. The vectorization of traditional motifs was made by GIS software.

Starting from the assumption that, with the decrease of the period of time available for physical activities combined with an erratic eating, the overweight/obesity phenomenon associated with increased risk factors for cardiovascular diseases has become an important issue which the contemporary society is facing. Therefore, the organised physical activity adapted to the needs of each individual seems to be the most viable solution for the improvement of the general health. The study has been carried out on two subjects, a 21 year old male and a 45 year old female, for a period of three months in which they followed a 60 minutes/day, 7 days/week physical activity programme, accompanied by minor changes in their eating habits. In order to establish the efficiency of the training programme, the subjects underwent a series of me...

The aim of this study was to propose an optimal methodology for capitalising on tourism related to wooden churches, regarded as a structural item of tangible cultural heritage, with positive effects on the protection, conservation, information, and awareness of all stakeholders in tourism development. This involved the development of a web portal, in which were integrated the 3D models related to the analysed objects, the panoramic images inside them, the audio support, the photographs, and the accompanying text necessary to create and render a virtual reality (VR) production for purposes of virtual tourism (VT). Together with the spectacular progress recorded by humankind regarding technology, opportunities to obtain valuable data on heritage objects so as to preserve them have started to emerge. The current researchers aimed to determine the internal composition of the colors and materials used in some paintings from a historic wooden church monument, from Oradea City, Romania. The samples were taken from icons made in different materials, which were in an advanced stage of degradation. Expert analysis of the samples of the paint layer and plaster base was undertaken using X-ray fluorescent spectrometry. The paper presents the data obtained via spectral analyses of the different sections of the samples taken.

This study has as the main research object, a uniquen monument in terms of its connection with the risk phenomena. It is about a wooden church historical monument from the village of Corbești, Romania, which was destroyed at the beginning of the tenth decade of the last century by a meteorological hazard, later reconstructed on a new site (in Oradea Municipality), and currently there is a risk of being affected by a geological hazard. The study focused on three main directions of research, namely: reconstructing the film of events, analyzing current risks and finding viable methods for future conservation and promotion. The methodology is based on extensive field research and the use of digital technologies. The results obtained confirmed the church's tendency to be affected by the emergence of a new risk phenomenon - landslides. In order to co...

Bacteria and fungi were assessed through specific methods. Determination of most common fungi and yeasts, consists in: Penicillium spp., Cladosporium spp., Fusarium spp., Alternaria spp. and Candida spp. These can contribute to the fabric fiber bio-deterioration and, in order to emphasize such aspects, the SEM images obtained from the electronic microscope were analyzed; the contamination with fungi, yeasts and bacteria can also negatively influence the health condition of those who handle such pieces (storage rooms, museums, etc.) and of those who wear such objects (even occasionally). Evidence decontamination was made by treating them with Chitosan.

Standard microbiological techniques were used for the isolation and identification of the fungi present in the dust of the superficial surface of the paintings chosen to be investigated for biodeterioration. Samples were taken from approximately 1 cm 2 of the surface of the analysed paintings (cotton canvas, wood, on primer) using the cotton swab method. The cultures of fungus isolated from the studied paintings were identified based on their morphological and microbiological characteristics. The identity of isolates was established, based on the smear microscopic examination, using the lactophenol blue cotton staining procedure. Based on the morphological characteristics of conidiophores, the following fungal genera were determined to be present in the dust of the studied paintings: Streptomyces sp., Arthrographis sp., Beauveria sp., Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., Alternaria sp., Cladosporium sp., and Streptomyces sp. The current state of paintings, influenced in time by temperature, humidity, brightness, microbial contamination, and other factors, was investigated and mapped. The detailed analysis contributes to the conservation stage of the historic monument investigation, enhancing the existing data in the environments destined for the conservation of valuable objects. The continuous monitoring of the indoor microclimate, together with the maintaining of good hygiene, cleaning conditions and proper ventilation, could successfully contribute to the slowing down of painting degradation within the wooden church monument.
