It is a literary device that functions as a way of creating symbolic images that bear hidden meanings which should be deciphered through dismantling personification into segments in order to obtain the masqueraded meaning attended in each personification. The basic objective of this paper is to key out the mechanism that Emily Dickinson employs in generating personifications, and how the poet constructs the meaning of each personification. Successively, it also aims at unearthing how the elements that the poet hires in configuring personification are blended together though they are borrowed from different and incompatible fields that never meet together unless they are mapped out together metaphorically. The Conceptual Blending Theory was eminently exploited in the practical aspect of the research because it fits the purpose of the research. This theory is basically based on the cognitive construction of meaning which is an output of blending different elements to integrate them together to attain one concept. The mathematical relation (X + Y = Z) was applied to the personification so as to unscrew its elements, then blend them together conceptually to reach the essence of the personification. However, a bundle of sundry poems were selected from Dickinson‘s collection of poems randomly. Eventually, it has been noticed that Dickinson‘s personification depicts a rhetorical image to conceive metaphoric states that broaden the reader‘s imagination towards issues and themes which simulate his own daily life‘s experiences.

The present paper seeks to shed some light on the lexical and metaphoric use of slang expressions... more The present paper seeks to shed some light on the lexical and metaphoric use of slang expressions in the American society. Slang is very informal and sometimes offensive, and employed in verbal speech. Slang expressions are regarded culture-specific because they are coined according to cultural concepts. As it is used by blacks, street talkers, criminals and drug dealers in the USA. Lexically, parts of the human body which basically include eyes, face, feet and hands have slangy polysemous senses which are metaphorically conceptualized according to the concepts or norms of that society or group that invents the given slang expression. So, they are a culture-mirror of society's customs. For example, the word 'police' can have some polysemous expressions including 'pig' and 'cop' where the word "pig" is coined by the New Yorkers as a reaction to the bad behavior shown by them; therefore, they call the police as pigs. The main goal of this paper is to investigate the synonyms of some human body parts incorporated in the American slang. The analyzed data is taken from Spear's book of American Slang (2000).

The basic goal of this research is to identify those errors and itemize them into types. Recognizing such errors let the teachers diagnose the vulnerable points that the learners suffer from as it assists the learners in exploring their errors which is an impetus to overcome their errors. Attending a good linguistic magnitude of competence of grammatical concord rules in the learner's mind might not be discharged practically in a real context which occurs due to tenuous practice exerted by the learner. Performing well-formed structures-without errors is bounded up with conceiving the rules of grammatical concord, then practiced appropriately within the context. Otherwise, inefficacious performance stemming from faulty implementation or misuse of rules vitiates the appropriateness of the sentences produced. Rules of concord relating to number and subject-verb types have been almost violated. A parcel of monthly exam answer sheets has been used in the process of analysis in order to advocate the objective of the research.

Since slang is flourished in most of the American society and used by many fields including journalism. One should look at the way in which these compounds are built and how these are syntactically patterned and creamed with innovative meanings that might not be deduced from the mere constituents of the words used in compositing the compounds. Virtually, joining two words or more together results in having a compound word formed according to obvious syntactic rules. However, configuring a slang compound might take two lexical tracks, the first track bases on the endocentric building of the compound where the meanings of the words used in compounding can easily be derived. While, the second track is exocentric building of compound where its meaning cannot be derived from the words joined together because its meaning is idiomatic. In examining the word order of the American slang compounds, one can find a variety of syntactic structures employed in forming them. Function words, such as articles, indefinite articles, modifiers, determiners etc, and morphological affixes are also employed in forming any word. A kit of expressions is used to enhance the process of analysis. Engendering a new modeling of compounding in terms of structures is a prima facie endeavor of this research.
