This statement is even more useful now than it was at the end of 400BC. The amount of learning, and therefore unlearning, is exponentially larger in our modern and global information economy. This area of study is not new, but it is a largely unexplored catalyst for change and growth in the field of information science. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of unlearning and in that effort provide an additional thread of research in our field.

This study intended to inform paralegal instructors and course developers how to better design, deliver, and evaluate effective online course instruction in the field of paralegal studies.Survey results were analyzed using independent samples t-test and correlational analysis, and indicated that overall, paralegal students and paralegal instructors positively perceived synchronous and asynchronous online paralegal courses. Paralegal instructors reported statistically significant higher perceptions than paralegal students: (1) of instructional design and course content in synchronous online paralegal courses; and (2) of technical assistance, communication, and course content in asynchronous online paralegal courses. Instructors also reported higher ...

Research suggests that choices of classroom practice are associated with teachers’ beliefs. The author of this study analyzed the international data set of the Teaching and Learning International Study (TALIS) 2013 to examine the relationship between lower secondary school teachers’ constructivist beliefs, their self-efficacy beliefs, degree of teacher co-operation, teacher background information, and the school principals’ instructional leadership. A series of hierarchical linear modelling (HLM) studies were performed to examine the data set of three countries (South Korea, Finland, and Mexico). These countries represent the high and the low achievers in the global index of cognitive skills and educational attainment. An understanding of how constructivist b...

Businesses have also expressed their interest in leveraging its use in business contexts. As a result, software vendors and business consumers have invested billions of dollars to use social software to improve business and employee productivity. The purpose of this study was to provide insights to business leaders and decision makers as they shaped their enterprise social software (ESS) delivery plans. A vast body of information exists on the benefits of ESS and its technical implementation, but little empirical research is available on employees' perceptions of ESS expectancy factors (i.e. usefulness and ease of use). This study focused on IT managers' perceptions of ESS expectancy factors to understand their behavioral intent to adopt ESS technology. Additional research was performed to uncover relationships and ...

Studies of expatriates in HRD generally focus on employees sent on global assignments by their respective organizations. However, there is a growing population of individuals who initiate expatriation, also known as self-initiated expatriates. This paper is an original piece of work that offers the opportunity to ascertain and comprehend the need to study self-initiated expatriates in the United States. Findings suggest a steady increase in the percentage of self-initiated expatriates.Findings also suggest that while the numbers are increasing, there is a need to conduct empirical research in this area. Based on this review, the author outlines an agenda for future research in this area as well as implications for HRD research and practice

Organizations cannot, in a global economy, remain static and rooted in current practices. Organizational innovation is the necessary ingredient for successful change. More difficult than both change and innovation is the subject of sustainability. Change is often a temporary “fix” that quickly reverts to status-quo. This chapter recommends practices for change management and organizational innovation by reviewing change theories, describing innovation models, referencing sustainability leadership, and providing examples of technology integration. Educators, trainers, performance specialists, change agents, managers, and organizational development professionals will benefit by understanding the principles and future trends of innovation. Both educational institutions and industrial organizations will utilize the guiding questions to determine their readiness to embrace organizational innovation. The goal...

This article addresses this limitation by providing a theoretical framework that examines the similarities between the benefits of incorporating teams into the workplace and incorporating knowledge management principles. Recognizing that knowledge management has several critical dimensions, the framework that ties workplace teams to each of these knowledge management dimensions is built. Knowledge management and teams in the workplace are viewed at the individual, team and organizational level of analysis. Design/methodology/approach - This is a conceptual paper. This paper reviews current literature on teams and matches the functions of teams to those of knowledge management critical dimensions as outlined by Argote et al. (2003): knowledge management context and knowledge management outcomes.Findings - This paper identifies the deficit in current literature by placing teams as a sub-process for knowledge management. Additionally, this paper identifies the benefits teams can have on an organization within the knowledge management process.Originality/value - This research contributes to the field by offering a framework that can serve to further the research on utilizing teams as a sub-process to knowledge management. Teams are identified as a sub-process to the knowledge management process within an organizational framework.

Linzer find a striking and perhaps surprising regularity: Anti-Americanism is most pronounced in the least observant Islamic countries. Moreover, opposition to the United States does not seem to be related to any particular American policies or to American culture generally. Anti-Americanism arises instead, they argue in “Elite Competition, Religiosity, and Anti-Americanism in the Islamic World,” from elite strategy, in which fundamentalist political factions fan anti-American sentiments to compete with more secular groups. That competition is most intense, and hence the anti-American strategy most frequently employed, in Islamic countries in which divisions between secular and religious forces are most pronounced. Employing a mix of statistical and case study methods, Blaydes and Linzer find that, within countries, observant Muslims ar...

Currently, university and college campuses must compare each LMS to ensure that the system meets the requirements and demands of the institution. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to review and discuss the important concepts and findings from research on LMS regarding higher education. In addition, five categories of LMS features on higher education are discussed, including (1) transmitting course content; (2) evaluating students; (3) evaluating courses and instructors; (4) creating class discussions; and (5) creating computer-based instructors. After discussing and reviewing the research, this study provides several recommendations and a model of development and design of LMS for future implementation.
