This paper presents a parallel raytracing algorithm with dynamic workload distribution, based on public domain raytracing software Rayshade. The implementation on the IBM SP2 and CRAY T3D is presented, with the discussion of

The sense of "presence" in the virtual environment is an important requirement for collaborative activities involving multiple remote users working with social interactions. Using autonomous virtual actors within the shared environment is a supporting tool for presence. This combination of Artificial Life with Virtual Reality cannot exist without the growing development of Computer Animation techniques and corresponds to its most advanced concepts and techniques. In this paper, we present a shared virtual life network with autonomous virtual humans that provides a natural interface for collaborative working and games. We explain the concept of virtual sensors for virtual humans and show an application in the area of tennis playing.

Intelligent transport systems (ITS), which apply combined advanced detection, communication, and computer science technologies to traffic and transport systems, are im-portant examples of such quantitative decision support systems. , adapted from [10], depicts the logic diagram for an advanced traffic management system (ATMS), a paradigmatic case of ITS.

Stations were categorized with respect to the population density around each site, and an urban temperature anomaly (δT*) was defined as a departure from the spatial average of nearby rural stations. On Saturdays and holidays (Sundays and national holidays), δT* was lower than on weekdays by 0.2–0.25°C at Tokyo, by 0.1–0.2°C at Osaka, and by about 0.02°C at stations where the population density was 300 to 1,000 km–2. Moreover, δT* showed a relative decreasing trend over the long term on Mondays and an increasing trend on Fridays, at a rate of about 0.05–0.1°C decade–1 at Tokyo and about 0.02°C decade–1 at stations where the population density was 100 to 1,000 km–2, but no significant difference in δT* trends was observed between weekdays and weekend days.

The continued application of conventional petroleum based metal working fluids is being challenged by the need to reduce overall volume of fluids, minimize health risks and bio-contamination. Bio-oils assisted machining is an environmental bio-compatible technology for desirable control of temperature. This paper investigates the effect of some vegetable based oils on cutting force during cylindrical machining of mild steel, aluminium and copper.
