The growing and widespread interest on the topic has triggered a vast research activity that is reflected in an exponential research effort. Through study of massive and diverse biomedical data, machine and deep learning models have revolutionized various tasks such as modeling, segmentation, registration, classification and synthesis, outperforming traditional techniques. However, the difficulty in translating the results into biologically/clinically interpretable information is preventing their full exploitation in the field. Explainable AI (XAI) attempts to fill this translational gap by providing means to make the models interpretable and providing explanations. Different solutions have been proposed so far and are gaining increasing interest from the community. This paper aims at providing an overview on XAI in biomedical data processing and points to an upcoming Special Issue on Deep Learning in Biomedical Image and Signal Processing of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine that is going to appear in March 2022.

It is towards this universe of harmony that you are invited. Everything lies in the pondering of both visual and tactile beauties which conceal thus a created space. A perception an eye discovers which is then transfigured and transformed by the feeling of touch. This type of art, beyond the visible, enriches us by its power and its self-fulfilment. Tactile colors of artwoks of Larissa Nouri are opaque or iridescent, matt or glossy; they overlap and challenge to evoke the feeling of floating in a space that is both universal and personal. Full of an energy that comes from nature, these tactile colors create a new dimension on visual perception completed by architectural technique and relief sensation. Here dominates the wellness atmosphere, the spirit of gentleness, elegance and refinement. The color is a hope of the happiness. Christine Fernandez-Maloigne, scientist in color imaging, try to show how to modelize these tactile colors with spatio-chromatic parameters. This is a perfect example of the importance of the other dimensions of color that is far to be considered as the value of an isolated point.

The detection algorithm uses very usual methods of two dimensional images analysis: edges extraction, morphology and thresholding. The experiments on typical images produce satisfactory results, in a very short time. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 859610.

It could be used to detect carriageway markings and therefore as an aid to automatically steer vehicles. A description of the statistical parameters which must be taken into account when automatically differentiating between different textures is presented. The Run Length Matrices (RLM) and Galloway's parameters are described. Algorithms used to speed up the process and to obtain images of similar contrasts are presented. The method is illustrated by test results from a real road. For the covering abstract see IRRD 867248.

It allows to group under a same closure property the partitions of an image, which denote the same object. In this way, several studies have been made. Most of the algorithms are based on global information to evaluate the relevance of region combinations and fusion. In this paper, we propose a merging process based on Gestalt vision's theory. The particularity of our method is to preserve photographer's region of interest thanks to the definition of a new criterion based on Di Zenzo gradient. Thus, region fusion preserves photographer's relevant objects of the scene. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using various natural images, including Berkeley image database and its accuracy is shown.

To study a transmitter, the standard method consists in applying an electromagnetic wave propagation model to various positions defined according to a constant spatial step. Yet, that method leads to a considerable computation time which might become unexploitable in complex geographical environments. There have already been some researches studying how to reduce that computation time. They consist in the simplification of the propagation model used. The processes in our article is complementary to them. Indeed, our technique is independent of the model. The idea is to reduce the number of calculation points of the model. The method presented here is based on an hypothesis which needs two elements to be confirmed: the segmentation of the signals measured by a mobile receiver ; a software used for the electromagnetic an...

The fundamental aspects related to the science of colorimetry in relation to physiology (the human visual system) are addressed, as are constancy and color appearance. It also addresses the more technical aspects related to sensors and the color management screen. Particular attention is paid to the notion of color rendering in computer graphics. Beyond color, the authors also look at coding, compression, protection and quality of color images and videos.Individual chapters focus on the LMS specification, color constancy, color appearance models, rendering in synthetic image generation, image sensor technologies, image compression, and quality and secure color imaging. Ideal for researchers, engineers, Masters and PhD students, Digital Color: Acquisition, Perception, Encoding and Rendering offers a state of the art on all the scientific and technica...

But the majority of studies are connected with the detection of yellow (or white) lines or road signs. The present authors attempt to remove these constraints by using the information of texture. The image to be processed is divided into elementary squares of 10×10 pixels. For each
