coup of the 1980s and after a decade of class struggle. The resulting authoritarian democratic regime, according to
Nicos Poulantzas a new kind of repressive state apparatus which emerges as a direct result of the current stage of capitalist globalization, implemented policies of labour market deregulation, privatization, and market liberalization that resulted in violent economic conditions on the ground. The coming to power in 2001 of the Justice and Development Party (JDP; in Turkish, AKP) fostered power relations within Turkey’s political economy and accelerated neoliberal transformation with especially severe impacts on the country’s political ecology. As a result, the administration emerged as an overarching postmodern Leviathan. For these reasons, the articles focuses on the increasing colonization of life by market forces as well as the oppressive globality of space over place, of state sovereignty over individual autonomy, and modes of Islamic universality over subaltern pluriversality in Turkey.
