Currently, there has been an attempt to utilize the large amount of bagasse ash, the residue from an in-line sugar industry and the bagasse-biomass fuel in electric generation industry. When this waste is burned under controlled conditions, it also gives ash having amorphous silica, which has pozzolanic properties. A few studies have been carried out on the ashes obtained directly from the industries to study pozzolanic activity and their suitability as binders, partially replacing cement. Therefore it is possible to use bagasse ash (SCBA) as cement replacement material to improve quality and reduce the cost of construction materials. This paper presents the current status and past studies in the area of SCBA.

The exploration of natural aggregates for construction leads to the degradation of the environmen... more The exploration of natural aggregates for construction leads to the degradation of the environment; thus, the development of environment-friendly construction materials, such as steel slag, is being promoted. Disposal of steel slag without affecting ecology is the central issue of concern, as steel industries produce a million tonnes of steel slags as a by-product every year. To address this issue, we studied the potential of a waste steel slag to use as a replacement of coarse aggregate in the cement concrete. We observed that the mixing of waste steel slag with concrete improves the mechanical and durability properties of the concrete. The abrasion properties of steel slag concrete are comparable with a coarse aggregate concrete. The study concludes that the use of steel slag in concrete improves the physical properties of the cement concrete, and thus, steel slag concrete can be used for building floorings, pavements, or concrete surfaces, which expose to the external forces and ...

Evaluating the productivity of a ready mix concrete batch plant is one of the most challenging tasks of a plant manager and engineer, since it involves a lot of uncertainties, thus risks. Delivering ready-mixed concrete (RMC) efficiently to construction sites is a practical concern and one of the most challenging tasks for RMC batch managers. Batch plant managers must consider both time and order factors in order to set an RMC truck dispatch schedule that successfully balances batch plant (supplier) and construction site (customer) priorities. This project develops a transportation model to determine the solutions for RMC truck dispatch scheduling. The model takes into consideration uncertainties as well as unexpected situations such as truck breakdowns during delivery. This project is highlighting the study of Batching plant productivity without affecting the quality of conc...

Costly material like steel bars comes under scrap category; utilization of such waste has become necessity to lead an economical & sustainable construction. This paper used of waste reinforcement steel bars as steel fibers in the concrete. The experimental study herein is intended to ascertain behavior of tor steel reinforcement fibers (TSRF) in flexural for use in M20 grade of concrete. Improvement in flexural strength and reduction in wastage can be assessed effectively by the study of torque steel reinforced fibers. The testing program involves 27 concrete beam specimens and 18 concrete cube specimens of the M20 grade of concrete, designed as per IS 10262-1982 and ACI mix design methods. Each cube (150X150X150mm) and beam specimen (size700X150X150mm) representing the behavior of concrete in compression and tension. Flexural strength performed on normal concrete and concrete mixed with 8 mm and 10 mm diameter TSRF by 1% of fibers to the volume of concrete, after curing for 28 days. Mix proportion with IS and ACI methods show slightly different while compressive strength shows variation in the permissible limit. The test results show that flexural strength of member is increased by using torque steel fiber. TSRF affect the flexural property by remarkable level. This work leads to assess the properties of M20 concrete by measuring flexural strength, also intended for improvement in strength and properties of concrete. This study encourages for the use of wasted lower diameter steel as TSRF.

These cracks allow seepage of water as well as other chemicals in the atmosphere which leads to corrosion of reinforcement bars. The repair these cracks is a tedious job and in turn is expensive so to avoid these a special bacteria is induced in concrete which reacts with calcium to form calcium carbonate crystals which blocks the cracks formed in the concrete. This biochemical method results in sealing of micro cracks of size up to 0.15mm we expect to find better results in the near future which will help in sealing even bigger cracks.

The need of energy sources and new technology for electricity generation is increasing day by day... more The need of energy sources and new technology for electricity generation is increasing day by day, one suchsource can be solar energy, which is renewable source and is limitless. A major drawback of solar source is that it needs more space for electricity generation. As pavements are often exposed to a vast amount of solar radiation, it is possible to extract a portion of this energy through the implementation of solar roadways. Infrastructural growth of India and area availability for roadways is only reason to use road surface for electricity generation. A modular approach isadopted to elaborate and understand the theory of solar roadways. Surface area about 60-65% is covered by solar panels which are converting solar energy to electrical energy. This study concludes that this can be implemented in large scale as resulted in model. This is an energy saving approach to meet the energy demands of India.

Abrasion can be a catalyst for structural failures, as abrasion leads to structural cracks and reinforcement corrosion. The abrasion of the concrete surface is a reflection of the compressive strength and quality grading of the concrete. This study aims to examine the relationship between abrasion, compressive strength, and quality grading of concrete. The mechanical properties, quality grading, and abrasion of the concrete were evaluated based on the compressive strength (IS 516), ultrasonic pulse velocity (IS 13311), and sandblasting abrasion testing (IS 9284), respectively. Abrasion resistance increased with compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity. The study was supported by microstructural analysis and surface chemical composition of the concrete. It was concluded that quality grading, sound microstructure, and abrasion resistant concrete with higher compressive strength along with the use of superplasticiser leads to better abrasion resistance.
