The aim of the present study is to set up a general procedure to predict future trends in snow lo... more The aim of the present study is to set up a general procedure to predict future trends in snow loading on structures, taking into account the impacts of climate change according different emissions’ scenarios, modelled at a global scale. The procedure is validated against high quality data series collected for at least 50 years at weather stations in Italy, well representative of the Mediterranean climatic features. In a second phase of the study, the procedure will be extended to all European climatic regions in view of the next revision of Eurocodes.

The bond-slip correlation proposed by CEB is the most commonly adopted to predict slip displaceme... more The bond-slip correlation proposed by CEB is the most commonly adopted to predict slip displacements at the interface between steel bars and concrete. As known, the CEB model is based upon experimental results, obtained from pull-out tests performed on bars anchored by concrete for a limited length (usually 5 φ). In real beams the steel bar is usually bonded for a much longer length, and even in presence of concrete cracks, the maximum slip does not generally reach the values predicted by the CEB curve. An evidence of the above has been observed analysing experimental data, registered during a wide campaign for testing full scale r.c. beam to column joints, carried out by the Authors. Consequently, it has been calibrated a modified τ − s curve and an innovative test arrangement has been proposed, able to investigate bond-slip correlation for rebars in actual anchoring conditions. In the paper they are illustrated some promising preliminary results, obtained with the proposed testing set up, confirming the experimental evidence about the significant modification of the bond-slip curve with respect to the CEB one.

The out-of-plane dynamics of masonry walls is strongly influenced by seismic input, mass, wall ge... more The out-of-plane dynamics of masonry walls is strongly influenced by seismic input, mass, wall geometry and boundary conditions. Nevertheless, the parameter that mostly affects the dynamic response of a rocking wall is the coefficient of restitution, defined by Housner as ratio of angular velocity after and before an impact on the ground. Such a parameter defines the amount of energy dissipated over motion and is of paramount importance in assessing the seismic vulnerability of a rocking wall, due to the sensitivity of the dynamic response to small changes of it. This paper critically illustrates the preliminary results of an experimental campaign performed on a masonry wall subjected to one-sided rocking. These results are presented in terms of experimental ratios of coefficients of restitution. Two methods for calculating the experimental ratios of coefficients of restitution are described according to whether rocking is one-sided or two-sided. In addition, the paper compares these ratios with those of other experimental tests on two sided rocking and horizontally restrained masonry walls available in the literature. A numerical example is provided by showing that the assumption of a correct coefficient of restitution is crucial for a realistic and correct seismic vulnerability assessment.

In the paper, a suitable natural frequencies identification methodology is illustrated in the framework of the dynamic identification of the bell-tower of St. Niccola’s church in Pisa, where classical methods, based on Fourier transform, are combined with more modern methods, based on wavelet transform, integrated by sophisticated finite element investigations as well. BIM-based processes are becoming increasingly relevant in architecture, engineering and construct... more BIM-based processes are becoming increasingly relevant in architecture, engineering and construction industries, especially for design of new engineering works. Implementation of this technology for existing buildings, Heritage BIM (HBIM), mainly focuses on the reconstruction of geometries and the collection of historical documentation, while areas of structural analyses and verifications are currently less developed.In this context, a parametric procedure in BIM environment for the structural assessment of existing masonry buildings is proposed, starting from an innovative analysis method previously developed by the authors (E-PUSH). Combining this structural analysis program with the advantages of the BIM methodology, the management of the data is improved and the assessment process is simplified.The proposed BIM workflow will be illustrated in detail with reference to a real case study, showing benefits of the BIM approach in the process of seismic risk assessment.

As consequence of global warming extreme weather events might become more frequent and severe acr... more As consequence of global warming extreme weather events might become more frequent and severe across the globe. The evaluation of the impact of climate change on extremes is then a crucial issue for the resilience of infrastructures and buildings and is a key challenge for adaptation planning. In order to assess changes in extreme maximum and minimum air temperatures, Regional Climate Models outputs and observed data series have been analyzed and a new technique for the assessment of climate model uncertainty has been developed. Considering different radiation scenarios, some results are presented for the Italian Mediterranean region proving the ability of the method to define factors of change for climate extremes as well as to assess their evolution in time, allowing at the same time to estimate the uncertainty range of the model. Extending the analysis to different climate models it will be possible to take into account in climate change impact study also model uncertainty in response to same radiative forcing.

The paper explores three stochastic inverse methods based on a functional approximation of the sy... more The paper explores three stochastic inverse methods based on a functional approximation of the system response: the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, the Polynomial Chaos Expansion based Kalman Filter, and the parameter update with the Minimum Mean Squared Error estimator. The algorithms were implemented to update the probability distribution function of the input parameters of a finite element model with observable response of the structure. The different methods were tested on a simple case study, where some properties of a concrete water tank from the 60s' were updated. Advantages and drawbacks of each procedure have been discussed according to the obtained results. Attention is drawn on the prospective that the given methods may be applied for better assessing the reliability of existing structures.

To accomplish the intention of the research 48 male patients of coronary artery disease were selected from kerala. The subjects were randomly assigned to three equated groups. Experimental group-I (N=20), underwent asana practices with natural diet (APWNT), experimental group-II (N=20) underwent Pranayama practices with natural diet (PPWNT) and control group (N=20) did not undergo any specific training. The experimental groups participated in yoga training schedule three alternative days in a week for the period of 12 weeks. The study variables including Agility and explosive power, The consequences showed with the intention of all the physical variables of agility decreased and explosive power increased the performance due to yogic practices variations of yoga, pranayama with natural diet on Agility and explosive power among patients of coronary artery disease and the control group were not showed any significant improvement.

The increasing availability of modelling approaches for the assessment of seismic response of masonry structures calls for the need of verifying their reliability and correct use. In fact, these procedures are very sensitive to modelling hypotheses, so that the results of the assessment could vary in a wide interval depending on the adopted software and on the user’s skill. Commonly, beside local analysis, refined assessment procedures are used based on non-linear static methods, like the pushover method, supplemented, if necessary, by dynamic linear analyses, devoted to check the order of magnitude of the results. In non-linear static analysis masonry buildings are mostly modelled using the so-called equivalent frame model, but the resulting structural scheme is usually very complicated and the analysis requires to be "driven" step by step by very skilled users in order to obtain consistent results. An innovative and "robust" method is proposed for non-linear static analysis of masonry building. The method, which relies on very simple structural models, nearly independent on the user, recovers some basic assumptions of the classical POR method, and can be applied to mono or multi-story masonry buildings...
