Abstract First principle calculation was performed to investigate material properties such as str... more Abstract First principle calculation was performed to investigate material properties such as structural, electronic, mechanical and thermoelectric of ATiO3 (Be, Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba) a perovskite based oxide within density functional theory. Calculations were performed using PBEsol exchange correlation functional within generalized gradient approximation (GGA). Structural and electronic properties were elaborated since their effect gives information about the thermoelectric performance. The underestimate of band gap from DFT calculation were corrected by using DFT with Modified Becke and Johnson (mBJ). It was observed that compound with small band gap have higher electrical conductivity and at the same time, high performance of thermoelectric power factors. BeTiO3 was found to possess very low power factor due to its low value of Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity. Highest thermoelectric power factor was obtained in BaTiO3 at 1200 K. Elastic constant were used to explain the mechanical properties such as anisotropic, brittle characteristics, stiffness and many others.

On this research, the sample was prepared by solid-state method for zinc oxide (ZnO) at different sintering temperature which was 700°C, 800°C and 900°C. It was observed that the density of bulk ZnO that sintering at 900°C had the higher value of density 5.03 g/cm3. The microhardness of the bulk ZnO had a higher measurement 397.3 Hv after sintered at 900°C. ZnO that sintering at 900°C had been observed that had thermal conductivity 1.1611W/cm-K in the sintering temperature range 700°C to 900°C.

Thermal and Electrical Characterization of Zn-Cu Ferrites Thin Films

The effects of Zn and Cu on the thermoelectric properties of ferrite thin films were studied in t... more The effects of Zn and Cu on the thermoelectric properties of ferrite thin films were studied in this paper. The Zn-Cu ferritethin film was fabricated using ink-jet printing method. A minimum of 50 print cycles was required to obtain continuous film with approximately 9 μm thick thin films. The thickness of Zn-Cu ferrite thin films was decreased with increasing sintering temperature from 200 ºC (9.21 µm) to 400 ºC (5.48 µm). The XRD traces of Zn x Cu 1-x Fe 2 O 4 exhibit as plane reflection for cubic spinel phase of Zn x Cu 1-x Fe 2 O 4 and there were no impurity peaks detected with increasing Zn content and sintering temperature. The electrical conductivity of Zn x Cu 1-x Fe 2 O 4 thin film decreased from 1.18x10-3 S/cm (x=0.0) to 0.48x10-3 S/cm (x=1.0) with increasing Zn content. Positive Seebeck values were observed for all the samples, which indicated the samples were p-type. The Seebeck coefficient of Zn x Cu 1-x Fe 2 O 4 thin film increased from 6.36 µV/K (x=0.0) to 17.46 µV/K (x=1.0) with increasing Zn content.

Microwave Absorption Analysis on Recycled Glass Doped with Ferum (II, III) Oxide (Fe 2 O 3 )

Composite consisting of recycled glass and Ferum (II, III) Oxide were prepared through a heating ... more Composite consisting of recycled glass and Ferum (II, III) Oxide were prepared through a heating process in 1100°C for 4 hours. The prepared composite of recycled glass which is presented in cullet powder and Ferum (II, III) Oxide is an innovation in improving the absorption of microwave signal. Cullet has been found to possess a significant propensity for absorption microwave. In this research, the microwave absorbability of various ratios of cullet powder to Ferum (II, III) Oxide in the composite was investigated. Reflection coefficient (Г) and transmission coefficient (T) are used to determine the absorbability of microwave in range of absorption coefficient of 1.2 GHz to 3.0 GHz. The results show that cullet powder containing Ferum (II, III) Oxide absorbed microwave efficiently from 2.5 GHz to 3.0 GHz. The comparison among the composite in different ratio of Ferum (II, III) Oxide is conducted to determine the best optimum of ratio in microwave absorption.

The structural study of the ternary zinc magnesium phosphate glass

Background: Glass in the system (ZnO)30(MgO)x(P2O5)100-x (where x = 5, 10, 15, 20 mol %) were pre... more Background: Glass in the system (ZnO)30(MgO)x(P2O5)100-x (where x = 5, 10, 15, 20 mol %) were prepared by melt quenching technique. The structure of these glass systems has been investigated using FTIR spectroscopy. Objective: The IR spectra of the investigated glasses have been studied in order to understand the characteristic frequency of the vibrational chemical bonds and revealed the network structures of the phosphate glass samples. Results: The results revealed that the absorption band observed in the IR spectra composed of Q2 and Q3 phosphate units in the network glass structure. Conclusion: This study suggests that the changes in the structural of the ternary zinc magnesium phosphate glass related to the addition of Mg cation which acts as network modifier.

The effect of sintering atmosphere on the electron spin resonance (ESR), negative temperature coefficient of resistivity (NTCR), and photoluminescence (PL) properties of (ZnO) 1Àx (MnO 2) x ceramics has been investigated in detail. The results demonstrate that the sintering atmosphere has significant effects on the ESR signals of (ZnO) 1Àx (MnO 2) x ; the NTCR of the samples sintered in air is larger than those sintering in Ar and reductive atmosphere; the deep-level PL related to oxygen vacancy increases when sintered in the reductive atmosphere.

Study the Properties of Abrasive Stone for Aluminum Grinding

A doubled-sided lapping machine of grinding stone manufactured of a SiC as an abrasive, specific ... more A doubled-sided lapping machine of grinding stone manufactured of a SiC as an abrasive, specific resin and other thermosetting resin were developed for grinding process of the substrate of hard disk drive (HDD) made up of aluminum since the conventional lapping machine cause the serious quality problem of the magnetic substrate. However, at certain parameter during the grinding process, the abrasive stone was clogging due to the agglomeration of debris from the substrate which cause scratches on the magnetic substrates and affect its performance. The samples were classified into four parts (soft spot, border spot, hard spot, and unused spot). Characterizations of the samples were done using XRF, SEM and FTIR analysis. Based on all the above analysis, it can conclude that the porosity of the stone were not homogeneous and the percentage of Al was highest at the border spot which shows that, the area at the border spot cause the clogging to occur thus produces the hard spot that will damage the magnetic substrate during grinding process.

After certain parameter of polishing process, the polishing stone starts to clog because of debris agglomeration from the polishing substrate, thus lead to the scratches on the magnetic substrate which will affect its performance. Three difference type of acid were used as to dissolve the debris agglomeration in the polishing stone. The influence of oxalic, phosphoric and citric acid at three different times were examined. It was found that oxalic acid is the best chelating agent in dissolving the debris in the polishing stone.

The effect of Al doping to the band structure of ZnO was studied in this paper. The electronic ba... more The effect of Al doping to the band structure of ZnO was studied in this paper. The electronic band structure of Al doped ZnO was determined by using first-principles based on density functional theory. ABINIT was used to perform the band structure calculation. The calculated band structure of ZnO and Al doped ZnO shows that ZnO is a direct band gap semiconductor. The band structure become narrow with Al doping compared pure ZnO. With Al doping, the band gap of ZnO (0.749 eV) become smaller as the concentration Al doping increased to 4wt% (0.551 eV). The electrical conductivity of Al doped ZnO was studied as a references value for the band gap. The electrical conductivity of ZnO (8.21 S/cm) was enhanced with Al doping increased to 4wt% (71.87 S/cm).

In this work, the electromagnetic wave absorption composites, consisting of cullet and Fe 3 O 4 , were prepared by sintering a mixture of cullet raw material and iron (II, III) oxide powder. Reflection coefficient (S 11) and transmission coefficient (S 21) was measured at 10 GHz electromagnetic waves for the different percentage weight (wt%) of cullet doped with Fe 3 O 4. The absorption coefficient of electromagnetic wave was calculated based on the S 11 and S 21 measurement. The sample of cullet doped with Fe 3 O 4 has a higher electromagnetic wave absorption comparable to the pure cullet raw material. Electromagnetic wave absorption performances of specimens can be controlled by changing the ratio between iron (II, III) oxide powder and cullet.

Structural, magnetic, and electrical properties of colossal magnetoresistance La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 pero... more Structural, magnetic, and electrical properties of colossal magnetoresistance La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 perovskite prepared by co-precipitation method were studied using X-ray diffractometer, AC susceptometer and DC four point probe systems. The electrical transport studies shows the metal to insulator phase transition temperature T-P is about 276 K. The electrical transport studies of the sample also shows the typical metallic behaviour at temperature below T-P and semiconducting behaviour at temperature above T-P. The AC susceptometer studies indicates sample exhibits ferromagnetic behaviour with magnetic transition temperature about 270 K. The magnetic properties of the sample are enhanced with increasing applied field from 0.1 Oe to 10.0 Oe. The X-ray diffractometer spectrum studies for all substitution shows single phase perovskite structure with the presence of some minor impurities.

The thermoelectric propertied was related to the Seebeck coefficient (thermopower) of the materials. Therefore, doped zinc oxide had been studied to determine the effect of doping for an existing materials for thermoelectric properties. In this research, the samples were prepared by solid-state method for zinc oxide (ZnO) with different concentration of Al-doping. The concentration of Al-doping for zinc oxide was within the range 2wt% to 4wt%. Different concentrations of Al-doping were mixed with zinc oxide and shape into pellets through cold hydraulic press machine with diameter 11mm and thickness 5mm. The green compacts were sintered at 800°C and then proceed to characterization. The Al-doped ZnO were tests through X- ray diffraction to determine any phase change with different concentration of Al-doping. Besides, grain size, densi...
