Giovanni Salanitro
Giovanni Salanitro (Adrano, 7 July 1943) is a classical philologist, now Full Professor of Classical Philology (since 1990) and of Latin Literature (since 1997) at the University of Catania. He has also been Coordinator in Catania (since 1999) of the Inter-University PhD programme in "Greek and Latin Philology" held jointly with the Universities of Palermo and of Messina; Director (since 1999) of the"Sicilian Inter-University Academy for the Specialisation of Teaching in Secondary Schools"(SISSIS), where he also teaches Latin Literature and the Didactic Practice of Latin; Professor (since 2000) of Medieval Latin Literature; member (since 2006) of the Master's Scientific Committee in the "Promotion and Dissemination of Classical Culture" at the University of Catania; Tutor (since 2008) at the "School of Excellence" of Catania; and President (since 2010) of the Degree Course in Archaeology. Over thirty years, he has organized a hundred seminars with Italian and foreign scholars, and a dozen national and international conferences. Currently he is Director (since 1984), jointly with Michele R. Cataudella, of the International Journal of Classical and Christian Studies 'Silenus', founded by Quintino Cataudella; President (since 2005) of the 'Q. Cataudella' Delegation in Catania of the Italian Association of Classical Culture (A.I.C.C.); Director (since 2007) of the Series MULTA PAUCIS (the volumes of which are published at Acireale-Rome by Bonanno Publishing); Member (since 2014) of the Scientific Committee of 'Margaritae', a Series of Studies of the Florentine Academy of Papyrology and of Studies on the Ancient World (edited by Sergio Audano, Diletta Minutoli and Rosario Pintaudi), along with Sergio Audano, Luciano Canfora, Antonio Carlini, Augusto Guida, Hermann Harrauer, Walter Lapini, Giancarlo Mazzoli, Diletta Minutoli, and Antonino Zumbo; Member (since 2016) of the Scientific Committee of the International Journal «Atene e Roma», edited by Salvatore Cerasuolo; Member (since 2019) of the Scientific Committee of the Journal of Humanities «Classica Vox», edited by Nicola Basile, Paola Radici Colace and Anna Maria Urso; Member of Council of the National Executive A.I.C.C. - with 345 votes in favour in the elections held in Gaeta on 17 and 18 October 2015 - for the triennial period 2016-2018 (along with Luciano Canfora, Mario Capasso, Salvatore Cerasuolo, M. Carmen Matarazzo, Adolfo Mele, Natascia Pelle, Angelo Russi, Matteo Taufer, Renzo Tosi, and Renato Uglione) and also, with 350 votes in favour in the elections held in Messina on 21 October 2018, for the triennal period 2019-2021. In June 2015 the Department of Humanistic Studies in Catania has proposed that he be awarded the academic title 'Professor Emeritus' in Latin Language and Literature. By unanimous decision of the National Executive Council A.I.C.C., expressed on 25 January 2016, he forms part (since 2016) of the Scientific Committee of the Journal 'Atene e Roma', a quarterly review of the Italian Association of Classical Culture.

The first seminar will take place on Monday 8 January 2018, 4-6 pm, at "M. Cutelli" State High School and Lyceum.
The first will take place on Monday, November 21th, 2016 in the Hall 3 of the Central Building of the University of Catania, from 10 to 12, and will focus on the epic fragments of Livius Andronicus.
