This study provides a comprehensive overview of the rights of indigenous peoples, examining relevant international instruments, historical antecedents, contemporary challenges, and scholarly discourse. International instruments such as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention No. 169 serve as foundational frameworks for safeguarding indigenous rights. These instruments emphasize principles of self-determination, cultural preservation, and land rights, addressing historical injustices and affirming the rights of indigenous communities to autonomy and self-governance. The historical context of indigenous rights is marked by centuries of colonization, dispossession, and marginalization, laying the groundwork for contemporary struggles for recognition and redress. Despite legal advancements, indigenous peoples continue to face challenges such as land dispossession, environmental degradation, and systemic discrimination, underscoring the gap between legal standards and lived realities. Scholarly discourse enriches our understanding of indigenous rights, emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation, land sovereignty, and intersectional approaches to address the multifaceted challenges faced by indigenous communities. Scholars advocate for the meaningful implementation of international instruments, highlighting the need for robust mechanisms for consultation, participation, and accountability. In conclusion, the protection of indigenous rights is a multifaceted endeavour that requires sustained commitment from governments, international bodies, civil society, and academia. By critically examining the intersection of international law, historical context, and contemporary perspectives, we can work towards a more just and equitable future for indigenous peoples, where their rights, cultures, and voices are respected and upheld on a global scale.

It would be a mistake to treat human rights as though there were a trade-off to be made between human rights and such goals as security or development. We only weaken our hand in fighting the horrors of extreme poverty or terrorism if, in our efforts to do so, we deny the very human rights that these scourges take away from citizens. Strategies based on the protection of human rights are vital for both our moral standing and practical effectiveness of our actions. 2 Seeing a world in which wars rage on, refugees search for shelter in their millions, police violence often goes unpunished, political opponents are arrested, and countries unilaterally attack other countries without repercussions. Some may argue that the United Nation may only serve as a forum for political debates but does nothing for the realization of human rights on the ground. To clear the air, I shall be analyzing the character or role of the United Nations in the promotion and protection of international human rights in the past 70 years to further the human rights of all.

This situation has given a cause for concern and as a result, Nigeria like other countries is seeking alternative sources for cleaner and sustainable energy. And as we know; Energy is crucial for the economic growth and development of any nation in the world today. Access to clean, affordable, and reliable energy are a necessity in achieving sustainable development in the modern world. The importance of utilizing greener energy sources is obvious in the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 7, Target 2. This research examined sustainable energy, and whether or not it's an achievable utopia in Nigeria, going by the legislations on the ground and the implementation will of the government, vis a vis the current economic condition of Nigeria.
