The Data Privacy Vocabulary (DPV), developed by the W3C Data Privacy Vocabularies and Controls Co... more The Data Privacy Vocabulary (DPV), developed by the W3C Data Privacy Vocabularies and Controls Community Group (DPVCG), enables the creation of machine-readable, interoperable, and standardsbased representations for describing the processing of personal data. The group has also published extensions to the DPV to describe specific applications to support legislative requirements such as the EU's GDPR. The DPV fills a crucial niche in the state of the art by providing a vocabulary that can be embedded and used alongside other existing standards such as W3C ODRL, and which can be customised and extended for adapting to specifics of use-cases or domains. This article describes the version 2 iteration of the DPV in terms of its contents, methodology, current adoptions and uses, and future potential. It also describes the relevance and role of DPV in acting as a common vocabulary to support various regulatory (e.g. EU's DGA and AI Act) and community initiatives (e.g. Solid) emerging across the globe.
Development of Information Systems that ensure privacy is a challenging task that spans various f... more Development of Information Systems that ensure privacy is a challenging task that spans various fields such as technology, law and policy. Reports of recent privacy infringements indicate that we are far from not only achieving privacy but also from applying Privacy by Design principles. This is due to lack of holistic methods and tools which should enable to understand privacy issues, incorporate appropriate privacy controls during design-time and create and enforce a privacy policy during run-time. To address these issues, we present VisiOn Privacy Platform which provides holistic privacy management throughout the whole information system lifecycle. It contains a privacy aware process that is supported by a software platform and enables Data Controllers to ensure privacy and Data Subjects to gain control of their data, by participating in the privacy policy formulation. A case study from the healthcare domain is used to demonstrate the platform's benefits.
We report on an approach and associated tool-support for automatically evaluating and grading exe... more We report on an approach and associated tool-support for automatically evaluating and grading exercises in Software Engineering courses, by connecting various third-party tools to the online learning platform Moodle. In the case study presented here, the tool was used in several instances of a lecture course to automatically measure the test coverage criteria wrt. the test cases defined by the students for given Java code. We report on empirical evidence gathered using this case-study (involving more than 250 students), including the results of a survey conducted after the exercises (which yielded positive feedback from the students), as well as a performance evaluation of our tool implementation.
