The birth of an extremely premature baby can disrupt physical contact between the mother/parent and the baby. This situation affects the bonding process between mother and child. The aim of the study was to investigate the opinions of parents who receive photographs or videos of their children electronically on the usefulness of this intervention, as well as the emotional reaction of parents to the photos or videos received, and potential ways to improve the intervention. Methods: The study used a qualitative approach and relied on phenomenology, which is a research method used to study experience as experienced from the subjective point of view. Pilot interviews were conducted in January and February 2021, and the final study ran from March to June 2021. Results: The uploaded photographs and videos provided a useful communication tool. Unfortunately, for various reasons, women sometimes give birth in places which do not provide proper neonatal care nor conditions for a surgery. Then it is necessary to transfer the neonate to a higher-level referral centre. Medical transport of high-risk and critically ill neonates requires skilled personnel and specialised equipment. The only safe way is to transport the child in an adapted ambulance by a neonatal transport team. The authors describe the indications and the preparation for the transport as well as the most common problems associated therewith.

The incidence of mesothelioma in recent years has increased. It is assumed that the reason for this situation is the exposure in the past to natural mineral fibers (nickel, beryllium, silica dust), ionizing radiation, some organic compounds and SV40 virus but mostly to asbestos. The time from contact to the first symptoms is about 20-40 years. Probably the peak of morbidity is yet to come. Due to non-specific symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, fluid in the pleural cavity, early detection is very difficult. Additionally, we can deal with mesothelioma which starting point is outside the pleural cavity. In such cases, diagnostics is even more difficult, because the only remaining symptom is pain. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to this growing problem.

Pain is one of the most common causes of medical rescue teams' callings. Most of the cases are solved at patients' homes. Some problems presented by geriatric patients are too difficult to be evaluated at home and need to be admitted to hospitals' emergency departments(ED) for further diagnosis. Geriatric patients are often burdened with multiorgan dysfunctions which can cause pain. This problem in senior population is often overlooked or underestimated Material and method. Survey was conducted among 100 patients after 65 years of age who were admitted to ED because of pain. Location, the intensity of pain before and after application of analgesia, vital signs(heart rate, blood pressure, the number of breaths, temperature), previously administered pain killers and sociodemographic factors were evaluated and noted Results. Women predominated in the study group as well as the patients with posttraumatic pain (mostly fall from the same height). Forty 394 five percent of patients took a painkiller at home. Preliminary average rating of pain numeric scale (NRS) was 7.49 points. Respondents who received painkillers before coming to the ED, felt more severe pain than those who did not take medications (NRS 7.93 vs. 7.41). Thirty minutes after application of analgesic pain intensity averaged 3.74 points. Conclusions. Pain is a common cause among elderly patients who report to ED, despite previously adopted analgesics. It remains underestimated in prehospital care and needs special attention in emergency departments.

Airborne particulate matters (PM) 2,5 are mixtures of organic and inorganic particles smaller than 2.5 µm. They have broad negative effect on health especially on respiratory and cardiovascular system. They could increase the sensitivity to air ways infections, worsen: allergic diseases, hypertension, myocardial infarction and also increase the risk of neoplastic diseases. NO2 pollution arises mainly during burning of fossil fuels, which is mainly related to road transport. On the basis of numerous scientific research, it is believed that the long term exposure to NO2 could increase inflammation and eventually lead to higher cancer morbidity. We analyzed the data available in the Polish National Cancer Registry (PNCR), Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and Air Quality Guidelines, We checked air pollution by the means of PM2.5and NO2 and thanks to mathematical equation...

Miles et al. has been developed in order to assess the stress experienced by parents of infants being treated in Intensive Care Units. The measurement of parental stress enables the evaluation of nursing care effectiveness, as well as facilitating the determination of the level of progress made by parents in coping with the difficult situation they face. Objectives. The aims of the research include: (1) validation of the Parental Stressor Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Polish Version and (2) initial assessment of perceptions of parental stress in a group of 151 parents of infants treated in four NICUs in Poland. Materials and method. This quantitative cross-sectional study was performed among 151 parents (129 mothers and 22 fathers) of infants treated in four NICUs in central and eastern Poland. The respondents were asked to complete forms following the Parental Stressor Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Impact Event Scale-Revised (IES-R),and their demographics, which combined basic medical data along with socio-demographic data of both parents and children. Results. The three sub-scales distinguished on the basis of factor analysis (Infant Appearance, Parental Role Alteration, Sights and Sounds) explain in total 54.89% of variances. Cronbach's alpha for the entire scale equals 0.92, while as follows for the particular sub-scales: Infant Appearance-0.92; Parental Role Alteration-0.86, and Sights and Sounds-0.78. Conclusions. The Polish version of PSS:NICU is an accurate and reliable tool for the assessment of stress experienced by parents whose infants require treatment in NICUs.

On the other hand, central nervous system depression may be caused by overdose of medications and without pre-hospital history it may be difficult to diagnose appropriately. We report on a case of a teenager who attempted suicide with an overdose of olanzapine. She ingested 150 mg, which caused neuroinfection-like symptoms. She was treated with an initial diagnosis of encephalitis. Dynamically changing clinical status finally guided attending physicians to a suspicion of a suicide attempt. Based on this case we stress that a clear history of suicidal overdose ingestion is important for quick and appropriate treatment.

Participants were drawn from health facility in Eastern Nigerian. Crosssectional design was used. Two instruments were used: Index of family relations Scale and Posttraumatic Growth Inventory. Multiple regression result shows that appropriate family relationship is a significant factor in posttraumatic growth among parents of neonatal death. The result indicated that gender is a significant predictor in posttraumatic growth among parents of neonatal death. Discussions and the implications were emphasized and suggestions were made for further studies.

Significant progress in the perinatal and intensive care therapy resulted in a meaningful increase of survival of extremely immature, and burdened with severe diseases neonates. Although infants are the patients of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the needs of their parents should also be noticed and realized. The aim of the study was the analysis of the parents’ experiences of children hospitalized in the NICU. Material. The research material comprises 39 written contributions of parents of children hospitalized in the NICU. Method. A qualitative analysis of the text was used. Quotes of parents were classified in three categories: emotions, thoughts and support. Results. Fear, happiness, joy, uncertainty, stress and shock are the most frequently emotions appearing in the parents’ reports. The most frequently mentioned areas of cognitive reactions of parents include: realization of child’s mortality, realizing problems of the premature birth, search for the guilty, an...

They also play a pivotal role in autoimmune diseases and cancers. These cells secrete mainly different isoforms of IL-17, but also IL-21 and IL-22. Rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile idiopathic arthritis are the most common autoimmune joints’ inflammatory disease, affecting respectively adults and children. For a long time the immunopathogenesis of autoimmune diseases has been associated with Th1 lymphocytes. This hypothesis has changed after the discovery of Th17 cells, which are thought to be key mediators of autoimmune arthritides
