This peony hack we’ve now done successfully the last two years and, yall, it works! The only bummer of peonies is they only bloom ONCE! So the season is over all too soon. 🌸 Find the buds that are soft to touch like a marshmallow. 🌸 I also like to cut some smaller hard buds because they look pretty in a vase with big blooms. 🌸 Cut them back long enough to fit in a big ziplock bag. Be sure to trim off most of the big the leaves. 🌸 Wrap them well in Saran Wrap. 🌸 Seal them in a large ziplock bag. I use 2 gallon bags! 🌸 Store in the refrigerator horizontally (NOT freezer!) until you’re ready to use! Best by 3 months. Be sure your refrigerator doesn’t get too cold and

Tell me they have saved their peony blooms in their fridge until thanksgiving! I have never been able to wait that long, but I have successfully held them in the fridge for several months. Here’s how you do it : - Cut the peony blossom when the bloom head feels like a marshmallow, the petals are just barely starting to open and it’s a little bit squishy - Take off all of the foliage so that it’s only the stem with the bloom head - Wrap in a damp paper, towel or newspaper - then slide that wrapped up into a couple plastic bags from your produce - the sweet little package in the back of your fridge and when you are ready for your peony to bloom,

Last year I planted nasturtiums in the corners as they act as a trap crop for aphids. Meaning aphids will go to the flowers instead of the peas. I also tried bush beans in front, they did not take off and only had 4-6 beans per plant (usually I get 20-30 and two rounds of that per plant) This year I planted bush variety nasturtiums all in front to have a wall of colour and slipped the beans!
