Jean-Pierre Cassigneul (1935-)

He is a French painter and visual artist most famous for his post-impressionistic portraits of women in flowery hats that recall the works of Kees van Dongen, Bonnard and Vuillard. Cassigneul embraces the two-dimensional nature of the canvas and paints brightly colored backgrounds. His subjects are usually outlined or silhouetted, reminiscent of japanese woodblock prints. Cassigneul's women also have stylised features such as disproportionately sized eyes and lips.
