Since distributed generators introduce bidirectional power flow, the conventional operation of the on-load tap changer will be highly impacted, resulting in high voltage magnitudes that exceed acceptable limits, frequent voltage magnitude fluctuations, and the increase in overall reactive power supply when distributed generators start absorbing/injecting reactive power. Therefore, an adaptive control system is proposed on this paper that alters the existing voltage regulation philosophy of the on-load tap changer and also coordinate the voltage regulation capabilities of distributed generators with those of the on-load tap changer for optimal overall voltage regulation and the reduction of reactive power that flows through the power system, enhancing the power factor thereof. The existing voltage regulation methods of the on-load tap changer and step voltage regulator cannot successfully regulate voltage in long distribution lines with distributed generation since their control philosophy was designed for networks without distributed generation. Therefore, a dynamic system is proposed in this paper that coordinates the on-load tap changer, step voltage regulator, distributed generators, and the battery energy storage system to control voltage in long distribution lines with distributed generation. Their coordination will be based on response time and robustness. Unlike the conventional method, the proposed novel system will calculate a reference voltage that the on-load tap changer and the step voltage regulator must follow, based on the real time average voltage of the section of the network they each regulate. The system will also control the charging and discharging of a battery energy storage system based on the point of connection voltage and the average voltage of the feeder which it is connected to. Reactive power from distributed generators will also be used to enhance voltage regulation and refine the network power factor. When voltage magnitudes cannot be successfully brought within acceptable range, the proposed scheme will decrease the active power produced by distributed generators. The study of load forecasting using recent state-of-the-art hybrid artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL) techniques is limited in South Africa (SA) and South African power distribution networks. This paper proposes a novel hybrid AI and DL South African distribution network load forecasting system. The system comprises of modules that handle the collection of the loading data from the field, analysis of data integrity using fuzzy logic, data preprocessing, consolidation of the loading and the temperature data, and load forecasting. The load forecasting results are then used to inform maintenance planning. The load forecasting is conducted using a hybrid AI/DL load forecasting module. A novel comparative study of recent state-of-theart AI techniques is also presented to determine the best technique to deploy in this module when forecasting South African power redistributing customers' loads. The impact of the inclusion of weather parameters and loading data clean up on the load forecasting performance of a hybrid AI technique, optimally pruned extreme learning machines (OP-ELM), and a deep learning technique, long short-term memory (LSTM), is also investigated. These techniques are compared with each other and also with a commonly used powerful hybrid AI technique, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). LSTM was found to achieve higher load forecasting accuracies than ANFIS and OP-ELM in forecasting the two distribution customers' loads in this paper. Only the LSTM models' performance improved with the inclusion of temperature in their development. However, these offline MPPT techniques still require large and accurate training data sets for successful tracking. This paper presents an innovative use of rational quadratic gaussian process regression (RQGPR) technique to generate the large and very accurate training data required for MPPT task. To confirm the effectiveness of the RQGPR technique, the combination of ANN and RQGPR as ANN-RQGPR technique results were compared with the conventional ANN technique results, and that of combined ANN and linear support vector machine regression as ANN-LSVM technique results under different weather conditions. Results show that ANN-RQGPR technique produced the overall best result and with an improved performance.Â

Four powerful ML's multi-classifiers (ensemble) algorithms (Boosting (Bos), Bagging (Bag), Stacking (Stack) and Random Forest (RF)) were used at the receiver side of the OFDM system to detect if the received noisy signal contained impulse noise or not. The ML's ensembles were trained with the Middleton Class A noise model which was the noise model used in the OFDM system. In terms of prediction accuracy, the results obtained from the four ML's Ensembles techniques show that ML can be used to predict impulse noise in communication systems, in particular OFDM.

The classic incremental conductance (IC) MPPT algorithm is widely used in the literature. However, when large changes occur in the irradiance, the performance of this algorithm is degraded. To eliminate all of the disadvantages of the classic IC algorithm, we developed a new IC controller based on a fuzzy duty cycle change estimator with direct control. A fuzzy logic estimator (FLE) is used to estimate the new duty cycle used to track the PV array maximum power point. Compared with the fixed step IC MPPT method with direct control, the proposed algorithm reaches the MPP more accurately and faster during dynamic and steady-state conditions. A controlled Cuk DC-DC converter was implemented and connected to a SunTech STP085B PV panel to verify the accuracy of the proposed method. Matlab/Simulink was used for the simulation studies. Additionally, the algorithms were digitally implemented on the dSPACE ACE1104 platform. The results obtained confirm the advantages of the proposed algorithm.

Results: More than 80% of MRSA isolates were resistant to ampicillin (98%) followed by amoxicillin, cefixime and azithromycin with 94%, 93.5% and 85% respectively and maximum sensitivity toward tobramycin with 86% followed by 85% gentamicin and 79% meropenem. Conclusion: The detected trend in antibiotic resistance patterns of methicillin-resistant and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus in this study is alarming. This has created a huge clinical burden in the hospital settings as well as in the community.

The paper describes hardware design (power converters topologies specifically) employed in PV based energy generation systems to harvest maximum power from the available energy source. In this study, thirty different Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques have been critically analyzed and their response with respect to partial shading condition has been discussed. It is very difficult to say which technique is best as one must consider various factors and parameters while selecting a technique such as application, convergence speed, accuracy, efficiency, system reliability, and cost and performance of available hardware. Aiming at the complexity, hardware implementation, tracking speed, steady-state accuracy, or global maximum detection of the algorithm, an MPPT algorithm based on a rule table is proposed. This study aimed to identify the causative bacteria, antimicrobial sensitivity, and resistance of hospitalized patients in respiratory ICU owing to AECOPD. Patients and methods This prospective study was performed at Assiut University Hospitals on 50 patients with AECOPD who needed ICU admission. Samples included sputum for staining and culture. Samples were cultured on two bacteriological media (blood and MacConkey's agars) to detect gram-positive and gram-negative organisms and their sensitivity to different antibiotics. Results Klebsiella pneumoniae was the most frequently detected organism in 29 (58%) patients followed by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in 14 (28%) patients, methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in eight (16%) patients, Acinetobacter baumannii in seven (14%) patients, Proteus spp. and Staphylococcus aureus in five (10%) patients each, and Escherichia coli in three (6%) patients. No growth was reported in three (6%) patients. Among grampositive organisms, linezolid had the upper hand of efficacy followed by vancomycin and teicoplanin. Gram-negative organisms had high rate or resistance to most tested antibiotics. Frequency of death was more (62.5%) in patients with MRSA. Conclusion K. pneumoniae was the most frequent organism followed by P. aeruginosa, MRSA, and A. baumannii. The isolated bacterial strains were characterized by high resistance rates to the most used antimicrobials. Mortality rate was more among patients with MRSA.

INDEX TERMS Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems, artificial intelligence, deep learning, distribution networks, extreme learning machines, load forecasting, recurrent neural networks, long short-term memory.

Computational platforms for simulating cardiovascular devices such as prosthetic heart valves promise to improve device design and assist in treatment planning, including patient-specific device selection. This paper describes progress in constructing anatomically and physiologically realistic immersed boundary (IB) models of the dynamics of the aortic root and ascending aorta. This work builds on earlier IB models of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) in the aortic root, which previously achieved realistic hemodynamics over multiple cardiac cycles, but which also were limited to simplified aortic geometries and idealized descriptions of the biomechanics of the aortic valve cusps. By contrast, the model described herein uses an anatomical geometry reconstructed from patient-specific compute...
