Therefore, this study assessed the adoption of cassava processing technologies among entrepreneurs in Ekiti State, Nigeria. However, the technologies for the processing are largely inadequate. Personal interview and 200 well-structured questionnaires were distributed among the cassava processors. Multistage sampling technique was used to randomly select 180 cassava processors and these were analysed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression model. The results showed that the cassava processing business was dominated by female households (70.4%) with an average age of 48 years. Majority (89.6%) of them were married with at most secondary school education (85.0%) and an average of 8 persons per household. The results also showed that cassava processing business were profitable in the area. It revealed...

Determining curing profile temperatures from experiment is a huge challenge which in itself is like re-inventing the wheel of trial and error, when mathematical models of physical, chemical and kinetic properties of the constituent materials could be used in modeling the cure situation to some degree of trust. This work has modeled two types of polymer based composite materials (Aluminum filled polyester and carbon-black filled polyester) representing polymer-metal and polymer-organic composites in order to predict the possible trends during microwave heating with regards to effect of heating rate on degree of cure of the composites. The numerical models were constructed by taking into account the heat transferred by electromagnetic energy through the resin/filler mixture, as well as kinetic h...

However, there appears not to be a corresponding level of awareness on quality of the items and the techniques for assessing products/items appear not analytic. It is buy as seen. This work is an attempt to develop a framework to bridge this gap in knowledge. This work developed a composite index model for vehicle assessment. The performance of some used vehicles were determined and then compared with the performance of the benchmark. Data were collected from different vehicle types. The model was applied to three vehicle types A, B and C. For body exterior, the results are 0.563, 0.879 and 0.484 for A, B and C respectively, while engine performance gave 0.789, 0.766 and 0.759 for A, B and C respectively. The overall indices are 0.890, 0.7148 and 0.5414. and the results showed B has a better preference than A and then C. Appling this model would help a prospective buyer of a used vehicle to use an analytical approach in the intended purchase, and thus good value for money .

These often result in spread of diseases, contaminations of water body and pollution of soil, thus the selection of a good landfill location is a multiple criteria problem. This work developed fuzzy analytical hierarchical model as a decision support system. Optimising the anthropometric data for computer work station design can be a complex task because of the number of design parameters that must be put into consideration. Well planned activities result in improved performance of organizational goals among which are productivity, price recovery and profitability. This work uses artificial neural network, Back Propagation Artificial Neural Network (BP-ANN), as an alternative predictive tool to multi-linear regression, for establishing the interrelationships among productivity, price recovery and profitability as performance measures. A 2-20-20-1 back propagation artificial neural network was proposed. Productivity and price recovery served as independent variables while profitability was used as the dependent variable in the BPANN architecture. It was observed that BA-ANN model has Mean Square Error (MSE) of 0.02 while Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) has MSE of 0.036. This study concluded that...

This helps in reducing spoilage. However, most available dryers are expensive to purchase and maintain. This work therefore is an attempt to develop a simple low cost drying bed that can lead to reduced drying time. The fluidized bed designed and fabricated in this work consists of the drying column, fluidized plate, the inlet and outlet unit, the heating unit and the fan. The evaluation considered the drying time and temperature in achieving quality. The drying efficiency and the amount of moisture reduced per time and were investigated using rice and wheat with moisture contents of 23% and 33% respectively. The dryer has shorter drying times and efficiencies of 89% and 90% for rice and wheat respectively. Keywords: Fluidized Bed, Grain Drying, Low Cost Design.

In this era of build-to specifications, measuring cycle time and reducing non value-adding costs have become important managerial focal points. This study used the cycle time as a performance measure for a selected firm. The manufacturing process was described using a flowchart and a baseline for the critical activities which affect the cycle time for a batch production was established. After that, the activities were evaluated against the target to show current status. Factors which affect the times of these activities were also considered. The results show that on the average 30% of the manufacturing process did not meet with the time set for them and that each step in the process has a 45% chance of meeting it...

However, a recent survey shows that poor project progress reporting systems are common in practice. Thus monitoring to achieve timely delivery appears not effective. This gap is addressed here to ensure timely completion and effective cost control. This work provides a methodology for project progress evaluation that is time-cost based. These critical factors should be optimized in all projects especially those in Low and Medium Income Countries (LMIC) with limited resources and inadequate investment in medical facilities and equipment. The main objective of this study was to develop an optimization model for fuzzy Time-Cost-Quality-Risk Trade-off (TCQRT) problem for MRI machine installation project. The model was solved by Multiobjective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA) and the solutions ranked using the Technique for the Order of Preferences by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The results indicate a tradeoff relationship exists among time, cost, quality and risks.

In order to enhance bank portfolio selection, cost, profitability, time and location are important parameters that decision-makers often consider. This study implements a fuzzy-TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) framework to evaluate three potential portfolios (automated teller machine gallery, quick service point and branch) for a bank using the information from three decision-makers. An illustrative example of real bank information is used to demonstrate the proposed framework applicability. The complex proportional assessment of alternatives (COPRAS) method is also used as an evaluation technique and the results are compared, which yields that the results from the ranking order of fuzzy-TOPSIS and COP-RAS were different. However, there is a consistency between the aggregation of intuition-based, fuzzy-TOPSIS and COPRAS ranks and fuzzy-TOPSIS ranking results. The presented framework is an easy-to-apply tool that improves portfolio selection decision in the banking system. 2017 Growing Science Ltd.
