Estrogen has a role as an antioxidant that can prevent the low density lipoprotein(LDL) oxidation. In menopause with highfat diet, the decrease of estrogen levels will trigger cholesterol accumulation in the blood lead to endothelial dysfunction mediated by endotelin-1 (ET-1) and nitric oxide synthase (eNOS). This study aimed to investigate the effect of long-term high-fat diet on the lipid profile, serum eNOS and ET-1levels on ovariectomized rat. It was experimental using 28 female Wistar rat divided into 4 groups. Group 1 was ovariectomized mice and given a standard diet (OVX-SD), Group 2 was ovariectomized mice and given a high-fat diet (OVX-HFD), Group 3 was not ovariectomized mice and given a standard diet(SHAM-SD) group, and Group 4 was not ovariectomized mice and given a high-fat diet (SHAM-HFD).Lipid profile of blood samples was measured pre-and post-treatment, whereas serum eNOS and ET-1 levels were measured post-treatment using ELISA method. No significantly difference of lipid profileon OVX-HFD group compared to that OVX-SD was observed. The serum eNOSlevel on OVX-HFD(702.11±68.73 pg/mL) was significantly lower than that OVX-SD (857.18±118.08 pg/mL) (p<0.05). However, there was no significantly different of serum ET-1 levelbetween OVX-HFD group (299.14±146.61 pg/mL) compared to that OVX-SD (194.25±102.96 pg/mL) (p>0.05). In conclusion, the serum eNOS levelon ovariectomized rat with long-term high-fat diet is lower than that on ovariectomized rat with standard diet.

Hypertension can reduce a person's performance and interfere with life quality. Hypertension can occur at all ages but mainly in the elderly because the elderly experience a decrease in the elasticity of blood vessels. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the incidence of hypertension in elderly tea pickers. Methods: Cross-sectional with a sample of 30 tea pickers who are elderly, working more than five years, working on a sloped area of 450. The variables measured are hypertension, years of service, working time, education, weight, and height of tea pickers-bivariate using Chi-Square. Results: This study showed the incidence of mild hypertension was 83.3%, and moderate hypertension was 16.7%. Conclusion: This study concludes that there is a relationship between the incidence of hypertension, both mild and moderate, to age and working period. Still, there is no relationship between working time and BMI with the incidence of hypertension, both mild and moderate, because, in the sample, a normal BMI is high.

Exercise training was found to trigger various phenotypic changes related to preventing numerous ... more Exercise training was found to trigger various phenotypic changes related to preventing numerous diseases. Additionally, it also influences the microRNA (miRNA) levels in the circulation. These miRNAs are non-coding RNA that regulate gene expressions by suppressing or degrading their target genes. However, it is still not clear whether miRNA changes due to exercise play a role in the mechanism of exercise in preventing disease. To systematically collect and analyze the effects of aerobic exercises on plasma miRNA levels and discuss possible aerobic exercise mechanisms in preventing and controlling various chronic diseases through miRNA modification. We conducted a systematic review of articles from the Cochrane, PubMed, SAGE, and EBSCO databases with keywords related to “exercise”, “training”, and “miRNA”. Meta-analysis was conducted where possible. Twelve studies were included. Acute aerobic exercise increases miR-1, miR-133a, miR-206, miR-499, miR-126, and miR-146, with most significantly decreasing within 24 h. The changes in miRNAs were influenced by the exercise intensity (miR-1), exercise duration (miR-1, miR-133a, 146a), and subject’s fitness level (miR-1, miR-133a, miR-206, miR-21). Besides playing a role in the process of physiological adaptation, the role of exercise in preventing and controlling various chronic diseases may occur through the pulsatile increase of various microRNAs, which have roles as tumor suppressor genes (miR-1, miR-133a, miR-206), anti-inflammatory agents (miR-126, miR-146a) and angiogenesis regulators (miR-126).

The amount of the estimated number of patients suffering from diabetes mellitus is associated with increased micro- and macrovascular complications. Increased complications of diabetes occur due to vascular disorders that preceded the increased viscosity of the blood flowing. Number of endothelin B receptor is reduced due to vascular disorders. In vitro studies indicate shear stress can increase expression of ETB receptors on the endothelium. Shear stress increases in physical exercise. Physical exercise can improve ekepresi suspected ETB receptor, increasing the diameter of blood vessels, and prevents the increase in blood pressure in diabetes mellitus. Objective: This study aims to deepen the effect of regular physical exercise in a mouse model of DM to changes in blood pressure, knowing endothelin B receptor expression changes in...

Strong evidence shows that sleep deprivation can affect a student's ability to learn and academic performance. While delayed sleep-wake phase disorder was prevalent among young adults, available evidence showed an inconclusive association between sleep times and academic performance in university students. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study among university students in Indonesia to collect their sleep duration, bedtime, wakeup time, and academic performance. An analysis of 588 university students in Indonesia found that only 38.6% of students sufficiently slept, and their median bedtime and wake-up time was 11:30 pm and 5:30 am, respectively. Gender and wake-up time accounted for a 5.8% variation in academic performance (adjusted R 2 = 4.5%) after controlling for sleep duration, bedtime, body mass index, the field of study, batch year, and physical activity. Male had 0.116 [95% Confidence Interval (CI) −0.167 to −0.064] lower grade point average (p < 0.001) than female and students who wake up later had 0.077 (95% Confidence Interval 0.025 to 0.129) greater grade point average (p = 0.004) than students who wake-up earlier. The prevalence of sleep deprivation related to the delayed sleep-wake phase among university students in Indonesia was high. Since wake-up time was related to the increased grade point average, the university should consider developing sleep-friendly policies and interventions to improve their academic performance. As the decrease of estrogen, the rate of arrythmia and the mortality caused by arrythmia increases. Prolonged time repolarization of the cardiac s muscle is assumed to be the caused of arrythmia in menopausal women. The prolonged time of repolarization can be observed from ECG. The ECG shows leghtening of QTc interval. The aim of this research is to compare the effect of regular medium dose of exercise on the shortening of cardiac s muscle repolarization, on bilateral ovariectomized mice and estrogen replacement therapy mice. The subjects of this study are 24 Spraque Dawley mice, aged 40-50 days. From the study we conclude that regular swimming for 1 hour, 5 times a week for 10 weeks can cause the shortening of cardiac s muscle repolarization in bilateral ovariectomized mice. The estrogen replacement therapy to the mice after bilateral ovariectomy can prevent the prolonged repolarization of cardiac s...
