The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of the nucleator techniques of artificial perches and branch windrowing for the establishment of forest restoration in a seasonally dry tropical forest, Brazil. The research was conducted at Experimental Farm Cachoeira de São Porfírio, municipality of Santa Luzia, Paraíba, Brazil, in the period from August 2017 to July 2018. Two nucleator techniques were used, the artificial perches and branch windrowing. For both, the randomized block design was employed, with five treatments composed of the spacing between the structures that composed the respective techniques (5x5m; 10x10m; 15x15m; 20x20m and control treatment), in four repetitions. For the artificial perches the number of seeds and excreta were evaluated, and for the branched perches the height of the branches and their decomposition over time was evaluated. in addition, the water content and temperature of the soil in the experimental area were also analyzed. The artificial perches provided insertion of seeds distributed in three botanical families and excreta to the degraded area, thus incorporating organic matter and enriching the seed bank of the experimental site. The largest site. The largest number of excreta was obtained on perches with greater distance between them, proving that the spacing of 15x15m is the most suitable. The volumes of branches were altered throughout the experimental period, with a faster decomposition of the branches in the control treatment compared to the other treatments, and their cover provided lower temperatures compared to soil exposed to full sun. Both techniques have high potential for forest restoration in degraded areas in seasonally dry tropical forests.

The objective of this work was to evaluate growth, physiological responses and productivity of the common bean cultivar, 'IAC Imperador' under varying nitrogen doses in Brejo Paraibano. The experiment was carried out at Fazenda Experimental Chã-de-Jardim (Chã-de-Jardim Experimental Farm), of the Centro de Ciências Agrárias of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba, in the municipality of Areia, state of Paraíba. The treatments comprised 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg of nitrogen ha-1 , applied in coverage at 35 days after sowing. To assess growth, plant height, stem diameter and number of leaves were evaluated. For gas exchange, photosynthesis rate, internal CO 2 concentration, transpiration, stomatal conductance, instantaneous water use efficiency and instantaneous carboxylation efficiency were evaluated. For chlorophyll "a" fluorescence, minimum leaf fluorescence, maximum leaf fluorescence, variable maximum fluorescence, potential quantum efficiency of PSII (Photosystem II) and ratio (F v /F 0) were evaluated. For the components of primary productivity, the height of insertion of the first pod, number of pods per plant and the number of grains per pod were evaluated. Nitrogen fertilization in coverage significantly affected most of the growth, gas exchange and productivity variables, with the dose of 200 kg ha-1 being responsible for the highest values (p < 0.05). Chlorophyll fluorescence showed no significant differences among the nitrogen doses. The nitrogen doses influenced the growth, gas exchange and productivity of the common bean in the region of Brejo Paraibano.

Schinopsis brasiliensis Engler, popularly known as "barauna", is recognized both for its exuberance and the use of its wood for different purposes. This species occurs in the Northeast and Midwest regions of Brazil and can be found in the Cerrado and Caatinga phytogeographic domains. This study aimed to analyze the local and regional distribution and abundance of S. brasiliensis in six municipalities in different regions of Paraíba State, as well as to perform the current and predictive modeling of the ecological niche of this species in the northeast region of Brazil, considering bioclimatic variables. On a state scale, this research was conducted in six rural communities, previously selected from studies already carried out by the Ethnobiology and Environmen...

As cactáceas (Opuntia sp, Cereus jamacaru, Pil...

The species is of great importance to the region and so ecophysiological studies are needed for its preservation. The objective of the present study was to determine the best substrates and temperatures for testing germination and seed vigor of E. pauferrense. An experiment was performed comprising a completely randomized design in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, with five temperature regimes (20, 25, 30, 35°C constant and 20-30°C alternating) and four types of substrates (paper, vermiculite, sand and commercial substrate). The following characteristics were evaluated: germination percentage, first germination count, germination speed index, mean germination time, seedling length and dry mass (root and shoot). Paper and vermiculite substrates combined with constant temperatures of 20, 25, 30 and alternated between 20-30°C, provide greater seed germination and vigor while 35°C reduces seed physiological quality.

Poir. in three rural communities in the cities of Itaporanga, Lagoa and São Mamede (Paraíba, Brazil). Semi-structured interviews were conducted with all heads of families (men/women), in the communities of Pau D’Arco, Barroquinhas and Várzea Alegre. The interviews focused on the identification and analysis of the current and potential uses, to obtain more precise information about the relationship of the informants with M. tenuiflora. The uses were distributed into nine categories. In the communitites of Pau D’Arco in Itaporanga town, Lagoa in Barroquinhas and São Mamede in Várzea Alegre, 43, 181 and 158 use citations were identified, respectively. The separation of current and potential use is important for expressing the situation in terms of the conservation of species that are threatened by the multiplicities of uses. Field activities were undertaken in 2011, in all residences in the community being visited. The two heads of each family were interviewed (36 people). To compare the values achieved for the current, potential and general use in both the traditional and the differentiated calculation, a Wilcoxon test was used to confirm the existence or not of a relationship between the use values. The relationship between different use values and the availability of useful vegetal species was tested using Spearman’s coefficient. We conducted a vegetation survey and interviewed residents of the rural communities of Várzea Alegre. There was no correlation between the phytosociological parameters and all use values. Ecological apparency did not explain the relationship between the people from the studied...
