Design/Methodology/Approach: The article presents the results of empirical research covering the issues of implementing innovative solutions in logistics services provided by service providers. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the dynamically changing conditions of the economic and political environment, progressing globalization and growing customer requirements have determined logistics service providers to go beyond the implementation of traditional, individual logistics services, e.g., such as transport, warehousing, to expand the range of offered and implemented services, thus implementing innovation in logistics services. Findings: It was identified that the role of logistics service providers offering a wide range of services for the proper integration and monitoring of logistics processes as part of outsourcing is played by logistics service provider operators ((3PL), logistics operators and integrators (4PL)). Practical Implications: Findings show a wide variation in the innovation implementation by logistics service providers. The main findings indicate that 3PL and 4PL companies are the leading service providers implementing innovations in the provided logistics services. No less important findings show that by far the largest group of the surveyed companies were suppliers of a few simple logistics services (transport, forwarding, distribution or supply logistics, etc.). Nevertheless, also this group is entering the next stage of improving and developing the offer of services and implementing innovative solutions to compete on the market. Originality/Value: In conclusion, it is worth emphasizing that the results of the study show that in the contemporary dynamically changing global economy, the activity in the field of innovation implemented by logistics service providers is becoming the leading driving force of competing not only individual enterprises but also supply chains and networks.

In this area, there is a need for a better understanding of the process and the factors behind the successful implementation of innovations at LSPs. This study aims to discover stages in the innovation process at Logistics service providers and identify drivers for innovation implementation at LSPs. Design/methodology/approach: The study used a two-step approach. The first stage is a systematic literature review following the procedure proposed by Tranfield, Denyer, and Smart (2003). The second stage was carried out using the Delphi research method. Findings: The survey results show that the LSP innovation process consists of 8 steps. At each stage of the innovation process, undertaken activities were identified that were not recorded in the literature. A list of factors (barriers and stimulators) determining the process of implementing LSPs innovations was identified. Research limitations/implications: Despite the value of research results and their contribution to knowledge, this research has some limitations. The limitation of this study is that it included experts from Poland. Therefore, it is recommended to repeat the survey with experts from different geographical locations, which will include experts from other countries and even continents, to obtain more general conclusions. Practical implications: The results of the research can be used as a contribution to the improvement of activities in the field of implementation of the innovation process for companies from the logistics services industry willing to enter a higher level of implementation and offering of services. Originality/value: The findings presented in this area can be treated as new research findings, thus a voice in the discussion that opens the possibility of further deeper exploration and inference. Keywords: Innovation process, Logistics service providers (LSPs). Category of the paper: Research paper.

The first part of the article includes selected theoretical aspects relating to the concept of innovation and types of innovation defined in the literature. Around the various definitions and concepts of innovation, the most common definitions of innovation appearing in the literature are indicated. Although the issue of innovations and types of innovations are areas of research interest for both scientists and practitioners, a research gap in identifying types of innovations created by modern enterprises has been noticed. This area became the leading theme of the empirical study presented in the second part of the article. The study aimed to identify the types of innovations created by the selected enterprises. For this purpose, innovations were divided, according to their typology, adopted in the literature into product, technology, market, and organizational. The field of research interest was not only social innovations related to changes in motivational techniques. To achieve this goal, we ask the following research questions: What types of innovations do the selected enterprises most often implement? What is the scope of implemented innovations in the selected enterprises? Key results from the study are presented in the second part of the article.

The aim of this article is to define the nature and meaning of IT technologies and tools used by 3PL operators in the logistics of supply chains. To achieve this, a research method was used related to the secondary sources analysis based on the research of literature, articles and research published in Polish and foreign journals. Selected data from reports published by international organisations dealing with research and analysis of global outsourcing market of logistics were taken into account, as well as the activities of 3PL operators.

Economically efficient and effective implementation of forwarding processes in supply chains is determined by performing a series of steps. The freight forwarder acting as coordinator, organizer of these processes, acts as an intermediary between the sender (owner of the cargo) and the carrier so that the goods in accordance with the requirements and interests of the client (principal freight forwarder) was delivered to the recipient (the right place). Contemporary trends and market developments, logistics service providers, freight forwarding still define new quality. The growing competition between providers of logistics services, expanding the range of forces services, including inter alia: adaptation and development of logistics infrastructure, equipment in modern information systems to improve the implementation and monitoring of logistics processes. The evolution of the operations area of the freight forwarder does not change it’s mandate and into the responsibility of coordinating the implementation of the forwarder logistics processes in modern supply chains. It is assumed that the market for logistics services is the next phase in the development of transport and forwarding market, logistics service is a service of forwarding „higher order” and the activities of the logistics operator is a modern formula of shipping activities.

LSPs operating in today's economy face numerous challenges in implementing innovations in the logistics service they provide and offer. In addition to the increasing demands of customers, the pressure on LSP's to demonstrate greater commitment and activity in terms of sustainability and environmental performance plays an important role. Undoubtedly, the uniqueness of innovation in logistics, is expressed in the form of two characteristics, which are the scope of its application and the extent to which its effects will spread. This is also reflected in the objectives pursued, not only economic, but also anchored in sustainable development practices (Bouchette et. all., 2018). The aim of this article is to present selected results of empirical research indicating identified types of innovations introduced by Polish and Slovak LSPs (3PLs and 4PLs), in relation to innovations related to sustainable development (CSR, ESG more broadly). This article discusses how logistics service providers (LSPs) can positively contribute to environmental protection and value creation by implementing environmental, social and governance (ESG) guidelines. By implementing innovative solutions, LSPs can reduce their carbon footprint, promote resource efficiency and mitigate the environmental risks associated with their operations. Furthermore, implementing environmental innovations can also increase the overall value of logistics services, as these activities can attract environmentally conscious customers and investors.
