None of my IRL peeps except my OH still mitigate against Covid.

But one friend can actually hold a conversation about the difference between our positions without it getting weird.

Last time we spoke he said "I know i've sacrificed my lungs for the sake of entertainments."

1/4 He also complained about constant infections costing him £££ as so many of his clients keep cancelling appts (he's a therapist). "It's a complete shitshow" he said.

I can't tell you how much i value that he can at least see it and say what most just deny or ignore.

I've been watching 'Rhinoceros' today, and thinking about (well, grieving) all the ordinary, non-nefarious Covid minimisers & denialists, especially those I love or was close to, and I have thoughts:

🧵A year ago my Mum had shoulder replacement surgery.

I was so worried about her getting infected with Covid while she was in the hospital. Omicron 1 was accelerating fast.

She was worried too, but her pain was so great, she couldn't delay the operation.

1/ The nurses and doctors were masked during her surgery, and in her ward (although only with surgical masks 😒), and she took a portable HEPA with her, to put next to her bed. She wore an N99 when she could.

Somehow she avoided infection. I was so relieved!

Parents are being told to trust their judgement and err on the side of caution wrt Strep A.

Good, good. Parents know when their kids are sick.

Trouble is, that's PRECISELY THE OPPOSITE of what they've been told re Covid, where attendance is mandated even for unwell kids. How are gaslit parents who've been forced to send their unwell kids into school for months and months supposed to suddenly 180 and take this new stance?

Err on the side of caution, but repeat infection to Covid is desirable or even necessary? Their heads must be spinning!!!

IMPORTANT POINT from those UKGOV DoH guidelines on discharge of C+ patients into care homes.

Govt *pledged to provide* the PPE needed for safe care of residents & discharge of C+ patients into homes.

That was their end of the *deal* and they failed to keep it. And care homes were *still* struggling to get adequate PPE well into May 2020! LONG after the first peak.

Here's why i think #Beergate signals that the Tories are planning a General Election this year, and is the key part of their strategy for winning it. 🧵

1. IMO the Tories' ideal scenario = Starmer is cleared/not fined. If this happens they can shout "unfair!" and "hypocrite!" forever. And they will.

However, if Starmer IS found to have breached regs, he WILL resign, but Johnson still won't. This will look awful for the Tories.

Surprising to see MPs who attended the #LongCovid debates are completely blase. 🙃 I get it, the Tories are stupid and selfish, and Opposition MPs don't want to be all covered up whilst Tory MPs aren't. It doesn't look good on tv.

Fewer future infections is what's needed to lessen pressure on the NHS, & keep more of us safe and alive Yes, there are a LOT of hospitalisations baked in now That's bad, and we can't change it

But we can turn the tap and reduce the flow
We could do this right now in the SIMPLEST of ways

e.g. N95s for all face to face workers, and N99s for all patient-facing NHS staff
