I have been noticing more issues with low iron amongst my obstetrics and gynaecology patients lately so thought we should do a thread on iron...

Why is iron important?
Why can iron be low?
How can you get more iron?

#iron #anemia #pregnancy #periods #ObGynTwitter #MedTwitter Iron (Fe) is a super important mineral for us.

Iron the centre of the heme group, which sits in the centre of each subunit of the hemoglobin protein structure.

Hemoglobin proteins pack the inside of our red blood cells.

For those who are following along...
I used to post these music requests after my surgery days since before the pandemic.
No such posts this month. Surgeries cancelled.
Behind every music request is a person who is having surgery. Some minor, some life changing...
#COVID19AB I am only one Alberta surgeon.
To date 21 patients under my care had their surgery cancelled - some minor, some life changing.

Can we talk honestly about doctors for a minute?
We are human.
Like in many other areas of work there is stress - we know this going in.
Some days are tough.
The pandemic has been a long hard journey for many of us.
I worry about burnout...

(a thread) This was eloquently discussed on @TheCurrentCBC today:
cbc.ca/radio/thecurre…

As I listened I had an increased sadness for my colleagues in Alberta right now...

So to recap the past 10 days in Alberta as a physician or patient ...
/1

#AbLeg #ABdocs4patients We started with a change in social media presence for Alberta Health ... used to be a source of great public health information
It turned into a propaganda channel against your Alberta physicians (stay tuned ... imagine the nurses are next)

Teenager and I had some time today to consider the plot lines in #GameOfThornes and we concluded that the presence of a skilled ObGyn would have changed everything... think about it...
#MedTwitter Had Joanna Lannister survived childbirth, maybe Tyrion would not have been so hated by his father and sister
