In fact, there was a funding pause on all controversial GoF experiments issued by the NIH in Mar 2014, which was due to last 1 year while they looked into enhancing safety procedures.
But WIV GoF paper was greenlighted because these were addressed.

A study was also published on Research Gate to look into "The possible origins of 2019-nCoV coronavirus".
It's conclusion was that it "probably originated from a laboratory in Wuhan".
This study was removed soon after (but luckily archived here).
