Talk:Steeljaw (AOE)
From Transformers Wiki
Are Steeljaw animals?
His toy list him as a Decepticon, which I know is the catch all bad guy faction this year, but also seems to imply their robotic in nature. Also in the movie, they look pretty mechanical to me. Perhaps a modified life form like Laserbeak and Ravage?—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Observedhalo (talk • contribs).
- Just watched the movie and I can now definitely confirm that Steeljaws are mostly biological if not completely. --TheSpartanD (talk) 18:17, 5 July 2014 (EDT)
- Yeah, I noticed the organic tissue too. Maybe armor then?Observedhalo (talk) 03:28, 6 July 2014 (EDT)
I will be shocked if the name "Steeljaw" is supposed to refer to a species as opposed to an individual. -LV (talk) 14:23, 6 July 2014 (EDT)
- Maybe but it's better than Lockdown Wolf/Wolves or even Alien Wolf --TheSpartanD (talk) 14:32, 6 July 2014 (EDT)
- Well, One-Step Changers don't get package bios, so we'll never know any better. Jalaguy (talk) 15:35, 6 July 2014 (EDT)
Carnivac Micron
To anyone clued up on Japanese: does the text in the magazine scan here mention if the Carnivac promo Micron is supposed to be one of the Steeljaws/Wolves from AOE? I mean, I assume it is, but want to be sure. If not, hopefully the campaign web page will shed light on the matter... Jalaguy (talk) 12:50, 22 October 2014 (EDT)
- Is there actually any basis for having Carnivac here and not his own page? (Don't have the time to translate that blurb.) Saix (talk) 15:54, 4 January 2016 (EST)
- I can't read Japanese, but I spot Lockdown's name (ロックダウン) in the text. S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent 47 (talk) 16:34, 4 January 2016 (EST)
RID 2015
Given the existence of a blueish, wolflike villain named Steeljaw in a 2014 toyline, followed immediately by a blueish, wolflike villain also named Steeljaw in a 2015 toyline, would it be appropriate to add a note about there possibly being a connection? ThatGuy79 (talk) 11:56, 16 February 2023 (EST)
- No, it's a coincidence. McBaggins (talk) 11:59, 16 February 2023 (EST)
- Yeah, I figured it probably was. Oh, well. ThatGuy79 (talk) 12:26, 16 February 2023 (EST)
- ...what? That's absolutely not a coincidence; I doubt that the Steeljaw's literally inspired the RID guy but they're black in the movie! It's almost certainly deliberate that the toy is colored blue; it's not a homage, obviously, but there's still the fact that guys like RID Grimlock and Drift were influenced by early Age of Extinction concept art. Escargon (talk) 16:57, 16 February 2023 (EST)
- I didn't know they were inspired by AOE concept art. That seems like a clincher. I mean, it's true that the AOE toys generally got jazzed up a lot color-wise, but it seems a little odd for the wolflike bad guy to also be blue. I don't know what this all means, but I'm going to add a note to the two pages in a week. If anyone has a grievance, go ahead and air it here.
- I'm on the fence here. I think the close ties between AoE and RID are substantial enough that it could probably be raised as a point of comparison, even if there's no hard evidence to say "yeah there is a direct link". Like, what, did they really just make two evil blue wolves in a row by total coincidence? What I would stray away from is anything like "this toy probably inspired the RID character", just "hey look, the RID guy exists, they're similar (esp. relative to other Steeljaws) but we have no idea what connection there iz if any". --The Wadapan (talk) 19:42, 8 March 2023 (EST)
- Maybe something like ":Part of the fourth wave of Age of Extinction One-Step Changers, Steeljaw transforms from a robot into a cyborg wolf in a single step. Where the Steeljaws that appear in the movie are black, the toy is blue, much like another wolf named Steeljaw who would debut the following year." --Riptide (talk) 20:37, 8 March 2023 (EST)
- I'd prefer something that has less obfuscation, but this is decent enough. Escargon (talk) 22:03, 8 March 2023 (EST)
- If we have to mention it, that's the better option. Saix (talk) 22:04, 8 March 2023 (EST)
- I'm fine with this. It's harmless, and I think the connection is substantive enough that you'd just get people periodically adding it in less restrained ways anyway. —The Wadapan (talk) 15:29, 10 March 2023 (EST)

- I feel like a lot of this is too speculative. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if, in the course of concepting up the characters, Hasbro went "oh hey, that wolf guy you're making as the main villain? Let's do a little product synergy, we have the name 'Steeljaw' and he'd look good in blue' like this toy." But like... so what. It feels like the kind of stretch we made the {{notareference}} template for. --M Sipher (talk) 01:07, 9 March 2023 (EST)
