Now known as Syfy for trademark reasons.

In a world with giant intergalactic robots that shoot lasers, not too many humans would fit in like G.I. Joe's Laser Trooper, Seymour P. Fine (codename: Sci-Fi). It also doesn't hurt that Sci-Fi's secondary military specialty is Electronics.

G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers

Together with Flash, Sci-Fi was given experimental laser technology with which to defend the SPS Research Facility from a Cobra attack. When Cobra arrived with their giant robots, Sci-Fi killed Frenzy with a precise laser straight through the robot's eye. He and Flash were unable to stop Rumble from razing the building they were standing on, however. They were ultimately saved by Bumblebee, who punched out Rumble and helped the laser troopers get out of the rubble. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #3 Sci-Fi later participated in the attack on Cobra Island, during which he got to sit inside Bumblebee and brag to the other soldiers about how awesome laser rifles were. He also helped Mainframe deduce the coordinates to the SPS Satellite, allowing Optimus Prime to shoot it down. As thanks for helping the Autobots defeat the Decepticons, Sci-Fi was provided with his very own giant mech suit. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers #6

While interrupting a Cobra project in Boston two years later, Sci-Fi and the other Joes were transported to Cybertron due to malfunctioning wormhole technology. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II #1 He didn't really do anything in particular during his stay there. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers II #3

Sci-Fi later returned to Cybertron to help the Autobots defeat Serpent O.R.'s new Decepticon army. The Art of War #4

Several months after returning to Earth, Sci-Fi accompanied the Laser Squad on a G.I. Joe mission to the Himalayas of Tibet to stop the forces of Cobra-La and Unicron. Together with Flash and Red Spot, Sci-Fi defeated the Pretender Monsters by blowing Monstructor's head apart. After the threat of Cobra-La had been dealt with, Sci-Fi joined a crew under Joe Colton to explore the remains of Unicron and police its surviving inhabitants. Black Horizon, Part 2 of 2

Transformers vs. G.I. Joe

G.I. Joe, and the Earth at large, found themselves caught up in a war against the planet Cybertron. Sci-Fi was among the many operatives sent to the metallic planet to take the offensive against their opponents. After an attack against the Decepticon city of Trypticon ended with the Joes on the run, they regrouped at Green Zone 0-8-6, their temporary camp behind enemy lines. There, Sci-Fi helped secure Wheeljack after the Autobot was ensnared in one of the camp's perimeter traps. Targetmasters The team began taking the Autobot apart until he proved himself to be sentient. Just as the operation was tabled, Wheeljack's friends burst in on the scene and launched an offensive. The Joes reciprocated the attack, and a several blasts from the crossfire knocked all of the combatants unconscious. Funeral for a Friend

The Joes eventually came to ally themselves with the Autobots against the Decepticobra alliance. Once they lodged themselves within Metroplex, Sci-Fi was given access to the Autobots' library. Everybody Hates Metroplex When Optimus Prime returned to Cybertron to liberate his people, Sci-Fi witnessed him be slain by Megatron, and subsequently plummet down into the bowels of Cybertron. Notes

  • Sci-Fi's real name, Seymour P. Fine, is abbreviated "S. P. F.", making it a sunscreen pun. Because he works with lasers, get it?
  • Sci-Fi has been voiced by Transformers alumni Jerry Houser in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, and by Joe Zieja in G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout.
