Razorclaw (G1)
From Transformers Wiki
The name or term "Razorclaw" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Razorclaw (disambiguation). |
- Razorclaw is a Decepticon Predacon from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Know that when the Predacons are on the hunt, their leader Razorclaw is all business. He refuses to expend even a drop of fuel unless he knows it will be worthwhile, so he typically lies in wait, staring silently, until the perfect opportunity arises. Fools confuse this for laziness. Many of them have become his prey. In lion mode, his deadly claws can tear through steel. In robot mode, his sonic sword shatters apart his foes' armor.
Like all the Predacons, Razorclaw revels in the hunt. And the only thing he appreciates more than an easy kill is one earned in battle with worthy prey. In these situations, Razorclaw prefers to face his foe with honor. It costs him little to give them a well-earned moment of dignity, as their ultimate fate will remain the same - that is, unless his joints seize up due to prolonged immobility, the only way his targets may have a chance at all.
He and his fellow Predacons can combine to form Predaking.

In the year 2006, the Predacons were dispatched to Jupiter's moon, Io, to stop a marooned Autobot team from reaching Earth with Metroplex's transformation cog. Arriving on the moon, Razorclaw ordered his fellow Predacons to attack before charging himself. Chasing after Blurr in beast mode, Razorclaw nearly fell into a ravine when the Autobot shot him in the face as he attempted the jump. Grabbing hold of the side with his foreleg, he dragged himself up and rejoined his teammates to merge into their combined form, Predaking. Unfortunately, the mighty Sky Lynx soundly defeated the giant, scattering him into the Predacon component members. Razorclaw ran off, to the protests of Headstrong, when Sky Lynx fired upon him. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5
The Predacons were among the Decepticon forces on the planet Dread. When a group of Autobots arrived, Razorclaw and Rampage attacked Kup, until Grimlock grabbed him by the mane and tossed him away. When the Autobots attacked the Decepticons' death crystal cannon, the Predacons gained some measure of revenge on Sky Lynx, by blasting away the cliff he was standing on, briefly stunning him. They then united into Predaking and attacked the other Autobots. Their attack was only stopped by the collapse of a nearby mountain. Chaos
Later, the Predacons were drawn into the Quintessons' experiments using Daniel Witwicky's dreams to destroy the Transformers. While battling a host of bizarre nightmare-spawned creatures, Razorclaw and Springer were captured by a dragon, which took them to a castle. There, a princess offered them gold if they freed her. While Springer declined the gold, Razorclaw's interest was piqued. Whether this means gold is valuable among the Decepticons, or if Razorclaw just likes shiny things, is unspecified.
In typical fashion, Razorclaw sat down and decided to try and break out when the guards came. However, Springer came up with a plan that allowed them to escape and went to fight the dragon. Razorclaw decided to let Springer fight the dragon himself, but the princess urged Razorclaw to help if only to save himself. Razorclaw served as Springer's mount as he charged the dragon, killing it. After shutting down the experiments, Razorclaw decided to finish off the Autobots, but Headstrong couldn't transform into beast mode, and Razorclaw ordered the Predacons to retreat. Nightmare Planet
When Scourge was possessed by the ghost of Starscream and attacked Galvatron, Razorclaw and his team were tasked to track him down and bring him back. They returned empty-handed, to Galvatron's anger. After Starscream possessed Trypticon, the Predacon were among the Decepticons that took pursuit. Ghost in the Machine
When Predaking detected a signal on the Quintesson's signal, he followed it to a jungle planet, where they battled the Autobots for it, facing defeat by Sky Lynx once more. The Quintesson Journal
When the Decepticons invaded Paradron, Razorclaw and Brawl were on guard duty when Sandstorm escaped from the brig, and the normally relaxed Predacon commander eagerly charged out of the barracks at the thought of tearing apart an Autobot. He leapt ahead of Sandstorm on a narrow bridge and knocked him off the edge into a deep chasm. The lousy Triple Changer transformed to avoid splattering, though, and escaped his pursuers. Fight or Flee
Razorclaw was among the Primitives who were summoned by Primacron's assistant to fight Tornedron, greatly objecting to Sky Lynx's leadership of the group. While fleeing Tornedron, Headstrong declared that it would be better to die fighting. Razorclaw agreed, and ordered the Predacons to form Predaking. They got their energy sucked from them for their troubles. Call of the Primitives

Razorclaw and the Predacons were part of Galvatron's strike force on Cybertron in 2011, seeking to wrest control of Vector Sigma from the Autobots. Rebellion on Planet Beast
When the Autobots created a new kind of metal on Cybertron called Cybertonuron, Galvatron wanted to claim it for himself. He sent Razorclaw and the Predacons to Cybertron as an advance guard to pave the way for his forces. They mowed down Cybertron's standing guardians and began to wreak havoc on the planet. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1 Once the Autobots arrived from Earth, Razorclaw was confronted by Shouki and the Trainbots. His attempts to intimidate the Light-Speed Commander failed utterly, and a fight broke out. Razorclaw was tossed aside by Shouki in his initial strike, and ended up knocking himself unconscious colliding with Tantrum when Getsuei and Suiken lept away from his feral charge. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2
After Galvatron's apparent demise, Soundblaster started to cozy up to the new Emperor of Destruction, Scorponok. Scourge and Cyclonus felt the need to prove themselves to the new leader, and so they approached Razorclaw about teaming up to steal the Sol 1 satellite the humans and Autobots were working on. Razorclaw agreed, and assembled the Predacons as Predaking. Their attack was driven off by Raiden and the Headmasters. The Shadow Emperor, Scorponok Next, Razorclaw and the Predacons helped Scorponok stage a crisis to keep the Autobots distracted, by setting off a volcano in Peru. On-scene to keep the Autobots from rescuing innocent villagers, Razorclaw's group first clashed with the Trainbots before joining forces as Predaking and once again fighting Raiden and the Headmasters. As Scorponok began his plan to capture the plasma energy of Mars by blowing it up, Razorclaw and the Predacons stood guard on Mars as the Terrorcons began planting the necessary bombs. When the Trainbots stumbled across the plot, the Predacons started up a firefight to dispose of the meddling Autobots. With Daniel Witwicky and Wheelie missing, the Trainbots tagged out with the Autobot Headmasters to go looking for them. Razorclaw gave the order and Predaking was formed. Unfortunately, even Predaking was no match for Transtector power, and he was felled by a quadruple jump kick by the Headmasters. Explosion on Mars!! Razorclaw was one of the Decepticons the great Sky Lynx flew rings around during the Autobot/Decepticon war. Spacehikers!
As Megatron's paranoia reached its peak, Soundwave suggested that they enlist the help of the Predacons to flush out Optimus Prime, allowing Megatron to finally defeat him. However, Shockwave called them from Cybertron, and gave Razorclaw secret orders to turn on Megatron at a crucial moment. The Predacons successfully hunted down Optimus, Prey! and when Megatron arrived, as Shockwave ordered, they turned on him. Razorclaw and Rampage had been both tasked with distracting Megatron, and did so by feigning their final attack against Optimus. Both Predacons leaped over the Autobot and ran off into nearby woods, leaving Megatron too flabbergasted to notice Tantrum and Headstrong before they tackled him down. After learning of Shockwave and the Predacons' betrayal, Megatron summoned a space bridge to Cybertron to escape, but Prime flung them both through the bridge before it had fully materialized. ...The Harder They Die!
Razorclaw and the Predacons stuck around on Earth for awhile after Megatron's apparent demise, helping Shockwave stave off another contender for Decepticon leadership: the mad time-traveler Galvatron. Fallen Angel Megatron survived, however, although he lost his memory of their attack when Straxus attempted to take over his body. The Predacons were coincidentally sent back to Cybertron by Shockwave just as Optimus and Megatron were warped back to Earth, allowing the whole matter to be easily swept under the rug. Resurrection!
Suspecting Megatron was unstable, Shockwave contacted Razorclaw on Cybertron and enlisted the aid of the Predacons. Equipping them with Autobot insignia panels, he sent them to Earth via a space bridge in the Florida Everglades. There, Razorclaw led the Predacons against Megatron, who had been led to believe Optimus Prime still lived and assumed he sent the Predacons against him thanks to the Autobot insignia. Despite the prowess of the Predacons and fighting Megatron as Predaking, Megatron still defeated the Predacons. Gone but Not Forgotten!
When Divebomb complained that he was bored of life on Earth, Razorclaw took the Predacons on a sortie to destroy a human circus for kicks. Having seen TV news coverage of the attack, the Dinobot Swoop tracked down Divebomb and started to beat up on him but was interrupted by the arrival of Razorclaw and the other Predacons. They took it in turns to knock Swoop around but were surprised in turn by Grimlock and the rest of the Dinobots. Razorclaw and Grimlock traded blows as the Dinobot leader provided a thoughtful analysis of the battle and although Razorclaw managed to transform and surprise Grimlock he was quickly defeated. After Swoop persuaded Grimlock to let the humiliated Predacons go, Razorclaw offered Divebomb the chance to kill Swoop from a distance, but the flier said this was one fight he was going to win in his own time. Grudge Match!
Razorclaw was present with Shockwave's honor guard to defend their leader when Galvatron stormed the Decepticon base. Shockwave had ordered an attack on Galvatron when he saw the super-Decepticon from the future approaching, but his soldiers failed. Worse for Shockwave, Galvatron declared his intent to come in peace, but because of Shockwave's first strike, the Decepticons had made a powerful enemy that day. Razorclaw and the others were not happy with Shockwave after that...just as Galvatron planned. Enemy Action!
Razorclaw returned later, leading the Predacons under the flag of Ratbat, leading raids for fuel. RAAT had in their possession at the time the six Autobot Throttlebots and, with Forrest Forsythe refusing to believe the Autobots and Decepticons were separate factions, issued an ultimatum that one more attack would lead to the Throttlebots' execution. After the inevitable Decepticon attack and the Autobots' execution, Razorclaw led his team in storming I.I.I.'s base to check if the Autobots had really been killed; in the process, Razorclaw not only shot dead a guy who was running away, he also quite happily informed I.I.I. that the Autobots were a separate faction after all. Which is just rubbing it in.
When it became clear the Autobots' brain modules had been removed before death, the Predacons chased the "fuel scent" of the brain modules across the area, attacking the Throttlebots (who were trapped in toy-car forms) and their human allies. The Predacons were outrun by the Autobots in their remote control toy bodies and were about as effective as Tantrum was at making it through the mall's china shop. Toy Soldiers! Still, Ratbat managed to capture Buster Witwicky, and so had the Predacons return to the Decepticons' island base. When the Autobots launched an attack on said headquarters to rescue a recently captured Buster Witwicky, Shockwave converted the landmass into its rocket-ship mode and had it blast off into space. Razorclaw was standing at the ready, within the ship's control room, as this took place. The Desert Island of Space!
In an all-out assault on the Autobots, Razorclaw faced off against stubby, short, podgy Cosmos. The Decepticons were forced back when Grimlock and Blaster, then squabbling over leadership of the Autobots, managed to put aside their differences long enough to rally the Autobots into a counterattack. Cosmos was still standing in the battle's aftermath. Holy crap. Totaled!
The Earthbound Decepticons relocated to the Arctic, where they were met with another group led by Scorponok. Through subtle manipulations, Starscream had Scorponok learn that Ratbat was keeping from him information about the legendary Underbase, stoking animosity between the two groups. When the Predacons stepped in to prevent Scorponok's soldiers from leaving their base without Ratbat's authorization, an all-out brawl erupted. This skirmish only came to an end when both sides realized they had been duped by Starscream, who had snuck off to claim the power of the Underbase for himself while all others were distracted. Cold War! The Decepticons were forced to join up with the Autobots in order to stop Starscream from going on a rampage across the globe. The Autobot/Decepticon alliance scattered their forces to cities they knew Starscream would attack, with Razorclaw getting sent to Tokyo as part of a group led by Scorponok. There, Starscream used the cosmic energies he had absorbed to blow him and the other Predacons to pieces. Dark Star

In 2008, Razorclaw was one of Commander Soundwave's lieutenants on Cybertron when a Quintesson arrived at Decepticon headquarters, alerting them that most of the Autobot fleet was off-world attacking Quintessa. Seeing an opportunity, Soundwave rallied his troops for a major offensive on Autobase. On the way, Razorclaw made an off-hand comment about how lucky they were the Quintesson gave them the intel, but Soundwave was quick to claim the lion's share of the credit for seizing the opportunity given them. Of course, a second later it became moot when a cadre of Allicon shock troops and Trident Attack Craft burst out from nowhere and assaulted the Decepticons, catching them in the trap the first Quintesson set for them. The Decepticons were forced to call upon the Autobots for help in thwarting the Quintessons' planned colonization of their homeworld. Space Pirates!

Razorclaw and Rampage were patrolling the North Canadian snowfields for Shockwave and bumped into Grimlock, who had just been had by the Dinobots as an April Fools' Day joke—they had set up a fake challenge from Shockwave and lured him out into the cold, only to find a "Shockwave snowman" and a sign. Razorclaw and Rampage thought this was very funny. What Grimlock did to them ended up being censored, but it probably wasn't hugs and kisses. Snow Fun!

Razorclaw and the Predacons were once Decepticon warlords who were banished from Cybertron to the planet Beest. During their time there, the Predacons' higher functions degraded until they were feral. After being repaired by the Junkions, Megatron located Razorclaw and the Predacons, and, after some initial difficulty, reprogrammed them to serve him, and also altered them to become the combiner Predaking. Welcome to the Jungle Razorclaw and his pride then journeyed to Cybertron, where they helped Megatron retake command of the Decepticons from Shockwave. They obliterated Shockwave's loyal Triple Changer, Blitzwing, when he refused to accept the rule of Megatron. G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers
Razorclaw tried to maul Nautilator when he was intruding on the Predacons' piece of the Gladiator Zone, but was blasted off and ordered the Predacons to tear the Seacon apart. The fight soon led to a battle between Predaking and Piranacon, but the two giants were interrupted when Serpent O.R. approached them to recruit them into his new Decepticon army. The Art of War #2 After the Predacons helped Serpent O.R. capture a group of Autobots and G.I. Joes, Razorclaw reported to his leader that their magno-locks would be more than enough to hold the prisoners. He was later part of a meeting during which Serpent O.R. convinced even more soldiers to join his ranks, then attacked an Autobot peace ceremony as part of Predaking. The Art of War #3
When Serpent O.R. was attacked by Optimus Prime, Razorclaw rushed to his aid alongside Onslaught, Motormaster, Hun-Grrr, and Octane. Razorclaw wedged his sword deep into Prime's leg, but was met with heavy resistance as the Autobot kicked him and used his sword to take out Onslaught. Razorclaw and Motormaster eventually overpowered Prime, only to be bewildered when Serpent O.R. was enlightened by Matrix of Leadership and tried to take his own life. Before the war began, the Predacons, including Razorclaw, were respondents to Megatron's open casting call for gladiatorial combatants. When Megatron was overthrown by Scorponok early into the war, Razorclaw refused to follow him, having swore an oath to serve Megatron. He deserted and led the Predacons on a murderous tour across various planets, hunting native creatures for sport until they ended up on Canis Tor, where to Razorclaw's annoyance the others exterminated all life, leaving them stranded and starving. Rampage blamed Razorclaw for taking them there and attacked him, though they put their fight aside when Divebomb collapsed, figuring they could just eat him. This proved unnecessary when Starscream showed up and told them Megatron was back. Primacy #2 Rejoining the Decepticons, the Predacons participated in Megatron's all-out attack on Iacon. Primacy #3 During the battle, Razorclaw caught disenfranchised new Decepticon recruit Slinger attacking Onslaught and had the Predacons kill the traitor. Before they could do the same to Hot Rod, the Dynobots showed appeared on the scene and Razorclaw had his jaws ripped open by Grimlock. Primacy #4
Razorclaw rose high in the Decepticon ranks, coming to serve as a kind of general, leading large numbers of troops against the Autobots. He also retained command of the Predacons, which became an elite – and feared – tactical unit. Spotlight: Shockwave At one point he and his Predacons went after the Autobots Jazz and Tracks after killing the other members of their teams. Despite the odds, the two Autobots managed to defeat everyone except Razorclaw, which rather impressed him. Jazz was however unable to best the Predacon leader in a fistfight, and Razorclaw was just about to execute him when Autobot reinforcements arrived and blasted him. Spotlight: Jazz
After the Battle of Thunderhead Pass, Razorclaw was involved in a Decepticon scheme to demoralize the Autobots and claim as much of their territory on the planet as possible. Soundwave used Bombshell to subvert the will of Beachcomber, forcing the Autobot to make an assassination attempt on Blaster, "The Voice" of the Autobot cause. And so, just as the Autobot forces were gathering around their transmitters, waiting for the pre-scheduled broadcast that would never come, Razorclaw caught them off-guard with a massive full-frontal assault on the enemy trenches. Besides his Predacons, he led Darkwing, Dreadwind, Needlenose, Spinister, and even the mighty Trypticon himself into battle. Although details are slim, this offensive was apparently a major blow to the Autobot cause. Spotlight: Blaster
After Thunderwing's reactivation and subsequent return to Cybertron, Megatron dispatched the Predacons to ensure that his defeat was final this time, giving Razorclaw explicit instructions: if Cybertron must be destroyed, then so be it. Stormbringer #3 Razorclaw started a countdown on an orbital bombardment powerful enough to destroy Cybertron, but had Rampage at the console with his finger on the button, ready to cancel it in the event that Thunderwing was defeated. He remarked that he was hesitant to destroy Cybertron unless it was absolutely necessary, but was willing to do it rather than defy Megatron. In respect for the desperate Autobot defense, he dispatched a team under Divebomb and Headstrong to assist their enemies in fighting Thunderwing, but ordered them to return at the five cycle mark, intending to destroy everybody on the surface. He canceled the countdown with one second remaining, after Optimus Prime defeated Thunderwing. Stormbringer #4
At some point after this, the Predacons briefly experimented with combiner technology, though their attempts went nowhere and the effort was ultimately abandoned. The Iron Klaw
When Starscream took control of the Decepticons following Megatron's defeat, he feared Razorclaw would challenge his leadership as soon as he found out. Uneasy Lies the Head Three years later, however, the two appeared to be working together somewhat amicably. At their encampment on a deserted asteroid, Razorclaw oversaw roughly 100 Decepticon refugees, fighting over scraps of armor and energon. All His Engines
A while later, Razorclaw attacked Hot Rod when he invaded the Decepticon base. He pounced on the intruder, who fought back by stuffing one of Bombshell's cerebro-shells down his throat. This had the unexpected effect of putting Razorclaw under Hot Rod's control, which the Autobot used to his advantage by ordering the Predacon to attack Starscream. While he followed orders, Razorclaw's resistance against the mind control made him sluggish, and Starscream easily dispatched him. Heart Like a Wheel When Megatron finally took back leadership of the Decepticons, Razorclaw and the others rallied around him. Spotlight: Megatron
Once the war ended, Razorclaw ended up in Autobot captivity on Cybertron, where he was reunited with the other Predacons. The Autonomy Lesson Razorclaw was among a Cybertronian crowd recruited by Starscream to pressure Prowl into revealing a secret discovery below ground. Razorclaw wound up participating in Galvatron's invasion of Earth by the revived Decepticon movement, but was incapacitated by the Earth Defense Command's mindbomb during a battle in Shanghai. Once Upon a Time on Earth
The team remained on Earth, however, and soon fell into the employ of the villainous Count van Rani, better known as the "Iron Klaw". Von Rani used his technological acumen to forcibly brainwash the Decepticons into loyal soldiers. He also improved on their botched combiner technology, allowing them to form Predaking. The Iron Klaw During this time, Razorclaw—along with his new master—was one of the many Earth-bound villains who Baron Karza contacted during his invasion of the planet, demanding they swear fealty to him. Wrath of Karza #3 The Predacons' combination ability came in handy when Kup, Ayana Jones, and Ian Noble attacked Kreiger's castle to rescue their ally G.B. Blackrock; Kreiger deployed Predaking, and the combiner handily kept Kup and Action Man tied up. When Snake-Eyes smashed the machinery necessary for keeping the Predacons under van Rani's control, Predaking separated back into his component parts - and a furious Razorclaw immediately tried to wreak vengeance on every human nearby. Kup manage to intercede before he could flatten Ian; as the two grappled, Kup shoved his gun under Razorclaw's head and fired it, blowing Razorclaw's head to pieces. The Iron Klaw

Toys
The Transformers
- Razorclaw (Predacon, 1986)
- Team ID number: 1
- Takara ID number: D-73
- Accessories: "Twin concussion blaster", "Sonic Sword"
- The Transformers Razorclaw transforms into a brightly coloured, cuddly, cute robotic male lion. His beast mode legs and head have varying degrees of articulation (though the latter has more to do with his transformation). As was the norm for toys made during the period, especially combiner members, he has limited articulation in robot mode. Razorclaw is armed with his large Twin Concussion Blaster mounted on his back in beast mode and uses his Sonic Sword in robot mode.
- He serves as the torso for Predaking and his Sonic Sword as Predaking's primary offensive weapon. Additionally, his Twin Concussion Blaster can transform into a longer, single-barrel cannon that mounts on Predaking's left arm (ie: Divebomb).
- As with the rest of the Predacons, the initial release of Razorclaw had die-cast metal parts which were later replaced by plastic. In Japan, he was available individually or as part of a gift set with the rest of the Predacons.
- Razorclaw's sword was later reused for "Generation 1" Grimlock from the the Age of Extinction Grimlock Evolution 2-pack.
- Predaking (Gift set, 1986/2004)
- ID number: D-78
- Accessories: "Twin concussion blaster", "Sonic Sword"
- In Japan, all five Predacons were also made available as a very large gift-set. This huge box was reissued in 2004, using the die-cast construction of the initial releases.

- Special Team Leaders (Multi-pack, 2008)
- Series: Classic Series

- Razorclaw's arm-claws are mis-assembled, being upside-down in-package. Thankfully, they pop right off for an easy fix.
Timelines
- Razorclaw (BotCon attendee figure, 2009)
- Accessories: Tail/whip, Golden Disk Key
- A retool and redeco of Cybertron Voyager Class Leobreaker featuring a new head, based on the Razorclaw design seen at the end of "Dawn of Future's Past". Razorclaw transforms into a mechanical lion. Each forelimb/arm has a Cyber-Key-released spring-loaded claw, and his tail becomes a blade-whip for robot mode. He can also transform into "Savage Claw Mode", becoming a massive clawed arm that can attach to the Leader-class Cybertron Optimus Prime and Megatron toys, usable on either side of their torsos. Razorclaw came with a translucent Golden Disk Key.
- Limited to 2000 sets, Razorclaw came bagged with Elita-1.
- The original version of this mold was also used to make Nemesis Breaker and was separately retooled into Universe Leo Prime.
Welcome to Transformers 2010
- Predaking (Gift set, 2010)
- Accessories: "Twin concussion blaster", "Sonic Sword"
- As a part of the Welcome to Transformers 2010 line, the original Predacon molds were reissued. Razorclaw features significant differences from the prior versions; his yellow plastic is replaced with gold plastic painted over with gold paint (with the exception of his head). His red, gray, and black plastic is also altered to a metal fleck equivalent color. All of his label stickers were redesigned, with the exception of his faction symbol, most notable of the changes is the lion mane stickers. He now features a cartoon accurate golden face and optics rather than red. Also included are optional labels for Razorclaw's eyes to make them red in both modes.
- This version of Razorclaw features die-cast metal parts.
