Though not hyper-dimensional beings themselves, the agents known as Protectors (プロテクターズ Purotekutāzu) serve the ascendant Alternity in situations too sensitive to allow dispatching an auto-avatar. These agents safeguard timelines, particularly Primax 903.0 Beta, where their patrons originated. Protectors are often equipped with the means to generate a Timaeus powertrack, to facilitate travel between universes. For many this is an internal device, but if this is not possible due to the form of the Protector, an external vehicle may be provided with a Timaeus drive.

Controverse

Optimus Primal joined the Protectors in exchange for the Alternity transporting him back in time in Viron 102.0 Beta to take down Cryotek. After experiencing an unspecified number of adventures as Protector, Ask Vector Prime, 2015/09/30 Optimus Primal and fellow Protector E5 were sent to observe the trial of Primacron, Controverse who the Alternity suspected of having created the Hytherion. Although this suspicion proved to be incorrect, Primacron embarked on a dastardly scheme following the trial and his exile by the Autobots. Having learned of alternate universes where robotic lifeforms were created by a divine entity and concluding that such a thing was cosmic madness, Primacron invented a device which could destroy such universes with relative ease. Optimus Primal and the Protectors detected his experiment and rushed to stop him, but they were defeated by Primacron with the use of his armor Solduron. Primal's own body was destroyed, but his experience with incorporeality and his wisdom enabled him to convince Primacron of the futility of his actions, and Primacron ended his experiment. Story of Binaltech

As a disembodied spark, Primal was sent by the Alternity on his most important mission: to prevent the destruction of the timeline that birthed their species. Possessing a lifeless Binaltech body created by Doctor Arkeville, Primal successfully stabilized the timeline as its own independent splinter, in spite of the efforts of many agents provocateurs. Once his task completed, Primal's spark was ejected from the body, Binal Time but even in his disembodied state, he guided the Autobots to initiate the Timaeus Project, ensuring the origin of the Alternity. In the midst of a test of the Timaeus system, however, the Decepticons under the command of Nemesis Prime attacked and captured Primal's spark. Unfinished Business, Part 3 The Autobots then tracked the Decepticons to Australia, and during the battle that ensued, Primal's spark was liberated by Arcee. In order to give Optimus Prime the power he needed to defeat Nemesis Prime, Primal fused his spark with that of his ancestor. Prime recalled the similar experience iterations of the two had shared millennia beforehand, and used Primal's added power to finally destroy Nemesis Prime. Unfinished Business, Part 4

Alternity

Later on, in an unknown timeline, E5, now known as "E-7", was assigned to monitor the maverick of the Convoy Aggregate, the black Convoy. Arch-Nemesis!

Following the defeat of the Megatron Aggregate and the Hytherion, the members of the dissolved Alternity were returned to their home realities and timeframes. The future of the Protectors was less certain although many wished to remain active. Alternation

The last that Vector Prime knew, the newly-ascended Flaternity and the Protectors were still adjusting to their new circumstances. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/09/30 He hoped that they would not be encumbered by the Shroud. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/11/04
