Octopunch (SG)
From Transformers Wiki
This article is about the heroic Octopunch. For his evil counterpart, see Octopunch (G1). For a list of other meanings, see Octopunch (disambiguation). |
- Octopunch is a heroic Decepticon from the Shattered Glass continuity family.
Those who know Octopunch like to call him an ordinary, everyday Decepticon. Which is pretty weird, since he's nothing like the rest of them! Unlike his peers, Octopunch has no psychological hangups or weird quirks. He's just a guy, you know? He doesn't even understand why everyone likes fighting so much; he's got no love for war. For him, the war's just a job, and like any other job, he wants to do it well.
Octopunch is covered in experimental rheanimum rust-proofing, which was intended to help him in his underwater missions, but also had the side effect of making him impervious to any nanotech invasions. In other words, when there's Junkions on the docket, the Decepticons make sure he's on the roster. Octopunch also carries two positron-torpedo launchers.

When the Decepticons were tipped off by Optimus Prime that Ultra Magnus had escaped his prison on Paradron, Octopunch joined Treadshot's team to hunt him down. They traveled through a portal to a strange parallel universe where they encountered Magnus and his army battling their destination universe's heroic Autobots. Here Magnus was after this universe's Rarified Energon so that he could open up a hole in space time to bring its Earth to his Cybertron, destroying them both. But when Octopunch and the Decepticons appeared, Magnus used his stolen Terminus Blade to stage an escape.
The heroic Autobots and heroic Decepticons joined forces and fought back the insidious Junkion hive, while Octopunch and a heroic Scoop scoped out the evil Autobot's machinery below. Here the pair encountered two evil Decepticons. Scoop was able to disable Skullgrin, but Octopunch was more evenly matched against the other. Suddenly, Octopunch stumbled upon the realization that his opponent was his alternate universe counterpart, and while the evil Octopunch was momentarily confused, the heroic Octopunch dealt a finishing blow.
After surveying the equipment underground, Octopunch realized that the forcefield guarding it was impenetrable, and he relayed that information to Sir Soundwave aboveground. Ultimately, Soundwave was able to expand the forcefield surrounding the underground equipment to cover the entire Earth. Octopunch and the heroic Decepticons believed this had averted the crisis, but Magnus scoffed. He wanted to destroy this Earth, yes, but he had also set in motion the destruction of its entire universe! As Earth was pulled into orbit over their universe's Cybertron, the Earth's entire former dimension was destroyed.
Magnus declared victory and retreated. Octopunch listened as Straxus recited an uplifting passage. Invasion

Timelines
- BotCon Souvenir Set 3 Spinister and Octopunch (Multi-pack, 2012)
- Accessories: 2 "Torpedo launchers", 2 "Positron-torpedo" projectiles
- A redeco of Hunt for the Decepticons Voyager Class Sea Spray, Timelines "Shattered Glass Octopunch" transforms into a transport hovercraft. To complete the hover effect, the vehicle mode has small rolling wheels underneath it that keep it slightly raised while allowing it to travel smoothly over a flat surface. The rear deck (featuring a fold-down ramp) can carry most Scout Class vehicles. Octopunch's turbofans can rotate and tilt at several angles, and feature actual small fans inside that can spin, though only by manual manipulation, as there is no gearing mechanism linked to them. His Positron-torpedo launchers attach on the sides of his air cushion skirt.
- In robot mode, Octopunch's design highly resembles that of a scuba diver, with a breathing mask and "goggles" on his head, details resembling scuba air tanks (actually part of his vehicle mode air cushion) on his back and fold-out flippers on his feet. The torpedo launchers, using 5 mm posts, can be left attached to what becomes the underside of his arms, or placed in his hands. As with other molds from the 2010 line, Octopunch has attachment points for C joints, and in this case, it's the ladder rungs on the areas that become his robot mode shoulders.
- Octopunch was only available in a BotCon 2012 at-show souvenir 2-pack with Spinister, and limited to 1500 total sets.
- This mold was also used to make Reveal the Shield Deep Dive.
Notes
- The design of Shattered Glass Octopunch later influenced the Earth Wars incarnation of Generation 1 Octopunch. Interestingly, this Octopunch would also receive an aesthetic skin more directly based on the Shattered Glass toy design. The result...uh...is not very different from the initial game model. Heh heh.
