- Magnaboss is a Maximal combiner from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Magnaboss (マグナボス Magunabosu) is perhaps the ultimate teaching tool. When Skywarp and Santon fail to impart a lesson upon their youthful charge Lio Junior, combining into Magnaboss does the trick. Fusing Skywarp's intelligence and Santon's kindness with Lio Junior's courage, the result is a perfectly balanced warrior who achieves in seconds what it would take years of training to accomplish.
Through Magnaboss, Lio Junior is offered glimpses of the kind of warrior he could become if he'd just study, train and grow the heck up. And through Magnaboss, the other Maximals, including Lio Convoy, can witness the troublesome cub's ultimate potential for themselves.

In the Valley of the Lions on the planet Gaia, an injured Convoy was exposed to Angolmois Energy during his reformatting into the lion moded Lio Convoy. As a side effect, his Energon Matrix was doubled, splitting off into an autonomous lion cub / Maximal, dubbed Lio Junior. Two Maximal officers named Santon and Skywarp detected Lio Junior's awakening, and came to Gaia with high hopes for his destiny. They found they could initiate a fusion form with Lio Junior, creating a warrior named Magnaboss who represented the power, wisdom, and experience Lio Junior could one day achieve on his own. In the meantime, Santon and Skywarp could act as silent counselors for Lio Junior in guiding the Magnaboss gestalt. Enter Lio Junior
In his first battle, Magnaboss held his own against Galvatron, the Predacon Emperor of Destruction who had a similar link to the Angolmois Energy of Gaia. Lio Convoy joined Magnaboss in his fight, and together they subdued Galvatron so that Magnaboss could plunge his Magna Blade into the villain's chest, causing him to leak Angolmois Energy. Lio Junior and his mentors later reformed Magnaboss for their first battle with the Angolmois Energy-empowered Gigastorm as well. Megastorm Reborn
The Maximals later attempted to eliminate Gigastorm again by luring him into a crevice and then detonating large quantities of natural gas under his feet. When that failed, however, Magnaboss was formed to engage in more conventional warfare against the enemy. The New Weapon, Tako Tank Magnaboss was formed again to defend the Maximals from an ill-fated raid on one of the Autorollers' Angolmois Energy-mining facilities. Gigastorm's Treachery
A dunk in Angolmois Energy ended up making Starscream and BB into the more-powerful Hellscream and Max-B. Even Magnaboss had difficulty dealing with the enhanced warriors. The End of Starscream When dirge and Thrust were feeling underappreciated by the Predacons, they attempted to kidnap Lio Junior as the first step in their plan to draw out and eliminate Lio Convoy. Their plan never got to step two, though, for Lio Junior escaped and formed Magnaboss with his mentors, delivering a pounding to the Combatrons. The Lio Convoy Assassination Plot
After Lio Junior was tricked into providing Galvatron with the control unit for an alien teleport gate, the Predacons summoned the immensely powerful monster Cybertronian, Majin Zarak. Lio Junior escaped Predacon custody and reunited with Santon and Skywarp. They formed Magnaboss to press through the Predacon lines and seize control of the teleport gate themselves. Magnaboss was injured in this run, but even in his weakened state he selflessly provided some of his own energy to power the gate, summoning the legendary warrior Optimus Primal. With Primal by his side, Magnaboss rescued the fallen Maximals who had been buried in a rockslide caused by Majin Zarak's power.
Despite his injuries, Magnaboss worked with Tasmania Kid to oppose Majin Zarak. After luring the beast to an isolated and walled-in valley, Magnaboss exerted all his strength and managed to tip over the enormous Majin Zarak in aircraft carrier mode. This forced Galvatron into retreat and Lio Convoy and Optimus Primal used their Energon Matrixes to destroy Majin Zarak himself. Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!
As the Maximals tried to counter Nemesis's effect on Gaia, Magnaboss was formed to drive off the Predacons while the heroes tried to freeze the corrupted Angolmois Energy. The Great Angolmois Freezing Tactic The Maximals planned to eliminate the artificial planet Nemesis using a modified artillery cannon from the Niagara Base, powered up by Angolmois Energy from a nearby volcano. While the Yukikaze crew led two decoy cannons towards the volcano, Magnaboss remained in reserve at the Niagara Base with the true cannon, waiting for the Predacons to be occupied. Once the enemy was engaged on two different fronts, Magnaboss grabbed up the cannon and physically carried it up to the firing point. When the cannon was charging, however, Magnaboss was confronted by Galvatron and Gigastorm, who sabotaged the tubes of Angolmois Energy that were powering the cannon. Magnaboss separated so that Santon and Skywarp could occupy the Predacons while Lio Junior used his own internal Angolmois Energy to power the weapon. Knock Out Nemesis
Impressed by Lio Junior's determination during their last encounter, Galvatron arranged to expose the young lion to evil Angolmois Energy, giving him the opportunity to brainwash him against Lio Convoy. Santon and Skywarp attempted to merge with Lio Junior to prevent him from acting out, but they only ended creating a hostile but conflicted Magnaboss. Magnaboss tried haltingly to continue attacking Lio Convoy, until Lio Junior reached out to his father spark-to-spark, and asked him to spare Skywarp and Santon from having to harm anyone against their will. Luckily, Lio Convoy managed to absorb the evil Angolmois Energy through his Energon Matrix, freeing Magnaboss and Lio Junior from the effects. Lio Junior's Revolt!?
When a Martian emissary robot arrived on Gaia, it claimed to be capable of stopping the corrupted Angolmois Energy. Santon, Skywarp, and Lio Junior formed Magnaboss to block for Lio Convoy as he brought the robot to the mother computer necessary to complete its task. While battling the Cyborg Beasts, however, Lio Junior spotted and interacted with a robot named Moon. Even merged with him as Magnaboss, Santon and Skywarp couldn't see the little android, but Lio Junior reported that Moon said the emissary robot planned to destroy Gaia. The mother computer would crash the moon into Gaua to prevent the escape of corrupted Angolmois Energy into the universe. Emissary of the Fourth Planet As Magnaboss, the trio helped Lio Convoy and the other Maximals break through the mother computer's defenses and stop the emissary from ending all life on the planet. The Crisis of Planet Gaia
As the Maximals left Gaia to confront the Nemesis, Magnaboss intervened to help the Yukikaze crew get past Galvatron and make the launch of the star ship. Fly Out! Planet Gaia When the Maximals were forced down to an asteroid in mid-flight by the Seacons, Magnaboss formed to confront the enemy combiner God Neptune. Magna Blade clashed with Neptune Sword, producing tremendous amounts of power. Lio Junior's combined form nearly met its match, but his fellow Maximals joined the fight allowing Magnaboss bring God Neptune down with an Angolmois Ball. Revenge of the Space Pirates
As they arrived on Nemesis, Lio Convoy took Scuba deep into the artificial planet's core to stop the flow of Angolmois Energy. Lio Junior was left behind to form Magnaboss, working with the other Maximals to defend the access port Lio Convoy entered from any Predacon opposition. During the battle, however, Lio Junior detected Lio Convoy was in trouble while fighting Galvatron in tunnels flooded with raw Angolmois Energy, and he separated from the Magnaboss combination to seek out his father and help him.
