Caliburn (Universe)
From Transformers Wiki
The name or term "Caliburn" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Caliburn (disambiguation). |
- Caliburn is a Decepticon Micromaster from the Shell Game portion of the 2001 Robots in Disguise continuity family (via the 2003 Universe series).
Caliburn hails from a Cybertron where the Autobots are all but extinct. He is a personal attendant of Megazarak, gleefully tagging along, picking off anything that survives Megazarak's onslaught. He peppers his acts of destruction and cruelty with quips and gallows humor; he enjoys twisting the knife before delivering the killing blow. He relishes the death and destruction, and follows Megazarak's commands happily. Megazarak tolerates Caliburn's gab since the tiny terror's "lightning blaster" mode has incredible power, unleashing blasts of 60-kilovolt bursts of electricity.
As a Micromaster, Caliburn is a useful weapon for Megazarak. Unlike some Caliburns, though, he cannot directly augment Megazarak's existing might, and therefore remains nervous his master may turn on him if a better partner comes along.

Shell Game
In Viron 704.31 Epsilon, Caliburn accompanied Megazarak deep into the heart of Cybertron, in search of the Matrix, which had been hidden by the last Matrix-bearer. Megazarak sought the Oracle, which he believed would tell him where the Matrix was hidden. Caliburn used his lightning blaster mode to dissipate the null-shield that was the final barrier to the Oracle's chamber, tended by Ultra Trion. Shell Game
Toys
Universe (2003)
- Megazarak with Caliburn Mini-Con Figure (Ultra, 2004)
- Caliburn is a redeco of the Armada Mini-Con Leader-1, transforming into a moon buggy with twin overhead blasters. Aside from his standard armored buggy mode, he has multiple "gun" configurations that allow him to be mounted on Powerlinx plugs or held in the hands of most Unicron Trilogy toys.
- He was available only with Megazarak, one of the exclusive toys from OTFCC 2004.
- This mold is also used by Armada Clench, and is the basis for the similar new mold Cybertron Mini-Con Drill Bit. This toy also doubles as Armada Caliburn and Beast Wars: Uprising Caliburn.
Notes
- Caliburn's character went through many changes before the final version was released. He was originally going to be a Nebulan Targetmaster contortionist, and had "Vanquish" and "Destructicon" among his pre-production names.
- The word "Caliburn" is an ancient name for the legendary sword Excalibur.
- This Caliburn is identical to another Caliburn, also partnered with a Megazarak. However, whereas Universe Caliburn is a Viron cluster Micromaster teamed with a native Megazarak, the other Caliburn is an Aurex cluster Mini-Con teamed with a different, dimension-hopping Megazarak. A 2015 entry of the Facebook version of Ask Vector Prime clarified that there were independent Generation 1, Robots in Disguise, and Unicron Trilogy incarnations of Caliburn.
