Early Monster Sprites
To do: Put the sprites together. |
Early versions of monster sprites exist in the files of versions of the game from before they were released.
Dandidoo
Early versions of Dandidoo's sprites.
Early | Final |
---|---|
Young Dandidoo's sprites put together.
Early | Final |
---|---|
Adult Dandidoo's sprites put together.
Early | Final |
---|---|
There was also an early version of young Dandidoo's icon, using the My Singing Monsters art style as a placeholder.
Early | Final |
---|---|
An early placeholder version of adult Dandidoo's portrait.
Adult Pango
An early version of Adult Pango's sprites
Thumpies
Early versions of the Thumpies' sprites.
Adult Thumpies sprites put together.
1.0 - 1.1 | 1.2 - 1.5 | Final |
---|---|---|
There was also an early version of the young Thumpies' icon. This was changed in 1.2.0, however what it was changed to wasn't the final icon, as it was changed again in 1.6 (a version after the Thumpies released, meaning this technically was used) to remove the noses, as they were removed from the final design.
Early versions of the Thumpies' finalized sprites from version 1.2, with the most noticeable difference being that they have a higher saturation than the final sprites.
Adult Barrb
An early version of Adult Barrb's sprites.
Clamble
Early versions of Clamble's sprites
Young Repatillo
An early version of young Repatillo's sprites.
Shellbeat
Early versions of Shellbeat's sprites. Interestingly, the adult is red, which could be a remnant of early sprites for the original MSM, being reused for DoF.
Young Yelmut
An early version of young Yelmut.
Young Entbrat
An early version of young Entbrat.
Candelavra
Early versions of Candelavra's sprites.
Early | Final |
---|---|
Young Candelavra's sprites put together. The biggest difference in this early design is that it originally had a neck. The water droplet on its head was also originally a flame, as it used to be a quad lacking the water element.
Early | Final |
---|---|
Adult Candelavra's sprites put together. The same differences of the neck and water droplet from the young version exist here, along with many more differences like the body and arms being more akin to the young Candelavra.
A placeholder for Candelavra's egg, which uses the body and head sprite of the young version.
Unused Monster Parts
Early Young Kayna Eyes
An early version of young Kayna's eyes. The actual eyes are part of the head sprite.
Early Adult Drumpler Legs
Unused sprites of adult Drumpler's legs. The final legs are made out of two separate sprites, one for the upper leg and one for the lower leg.
Early Young Phangler Tendril
Young Phangler has an early sprite of its tendril, which is one sprite instead of being split into two and is longer than the final tendril, looking similar to the tendrils of adult Phangler.
Unused Adult Spunge Hands
Adult Spunge has 4 unused hand sprites for its fingers moving. These are all in the MSM art style.
Young Thumpies Noses
The young Thumpies have 2 unused sprites for noses.
Unused Adult Scups Feather
Adult Scups has an unused sprite of its feathers from MSM.
Adult Sooza Hair Tuft
An unused sprite of a hair tuft belonging to adult Sooza. The sprite is clearly unfinished. A similar sprite to this can be seen in the portrait for young Sooza.
Adult Ziggurab Head Spin
2 sprites of adult Ziggurab's head spinning. Ziggurab's head only spins in its young form, and in its adult form the middle segment spins. These sprites depict Ziggurab as being white, possibly being based off a cake or a stone tower.
Rare Quarrister Knee
Quarrister has an unused sprite that was used for Rare Quarrister in the original My Singing Monsters. This sprite is in the MSM art style.
Young Candelavra Neck
An unused neck sprite for young Candelavra. This is a remnant from an early design for Candelavra in which it had a neck.
Schmoochle Heart Glow
An unused sprite for Schmoochle that seems like it would've likely went around its heart as a glow effect.
Early Purple Prismatic Mammott Eyes
Early | Final |
---|---|
An early version of Purple Prismatic Mammott's main eye which can be found in the Blue Prismatic Mammott's sprite sheet.
Early | Final (Muted) |
---|---|
A very similar, but slightly darker version of this sprite is used when Purple Prismatic Mammott is muted.
Early | Final |
---|---|
There are also early versions of the eyes surrounding the Purple Prismatic Mammott which have less of a glow.
Unused Structure Sprites
Early Skyship
Older versions of the game from before the Skyship actually released contained an early sprite sheet for the Skyship. The final Skyship doesn't use sprites, and is instead a 3D model.
Placeholder Costume Trunk Sprites
In versions 3.0.7 and 3.1.0, these placeholder sprites existed for the Costume Trunk, which are the sprites of the Toy Factory but with a red with yellow dots overlay on it.
Volcano
This sprite, though altered, CAN be seen in My Singing Monsters, on Mirror Earth Island.
Whirlpool
This sprite, though altered, CAN be seen in My Singing Monsters, on Mirror Water Island.
Satellite
Piggy Bank
Referral Stand
Wishing Well
Notably, this sprite, though altered, CAN be seen in My Singing Monsters, on Mirror Water Island.
Unique Vault Level 9+ Design
An unused unique design for Vault levels 9 and above.
In version 1.5.0, this had a different design, looking more similar to the level 8 vault.
UI
Recipes Market Tab
An unused button for a recipes section of the Market, implying you were originally able to buy recipes from it.
Trading Post Button
An unused button for opening the Trading Post menu, which goes unused due to the menu instantly opening upon tapping the structure.
This sprite looked different before version 1.4.
Loading Progress Frame
2 unused sprites that were meant to go behind the loading progress text. These sprites can be seen in early footage of Dawn of Fire.
Early Achievement UI
Early sprites for achievements from version 1.0.0 of the game. The pink achievement completed sprite uses concept art of Entbrat.
Pink UI Frames
1.0 and 1.1 of DoF had many unused UI frame sprites. These sprites are all oddly colored pink, which was likely meant to indicate that they were supposed to be removed. Seems like someone didn't get the memo.
An early version of a basic bamboo frame. The second sprite is named "bamboo frame green", meaning it was likely supposed to be green before being turned pink.
An early version of a button ring.
An early version of the level bar.
An unused frame for the Vault's item count.
An early version of the timer frame.
An early version of the Trading Post canopy. The second sprite is named "mkt_canopy_blue", meaning it was supposed to be blue. Interestingly, the used Trading Post canopy is named "mkt_canopy_ends", suggesting it was originally used as the side of the canopy.
Placeholder Seasonal Costume Item Designs
Placeholder designs for the costume items from before the Costume Trunk released.
Air Island Balloon
Earlier versions of DoF contained a sprite sheet called "core_island_sprites" which was the Air Island balloon from My Singing Monsters.
Unused Sounds
The Continent
Extended PomPom Sound
On the Continent, PomPom has an extended sound where its second "Hey everybody hey let's go!" is different. In game, the first half of its sound loops twice. This extended version appears in the OST version of the Continent.
Early Thumpies Sounds
In the first version of the game, there were early versions of the Baby Thumpies sounds, with version 1 being the same as the final but with an extra note at the end, and track 2 being an extended version with a slight pitch difference in the extended part.
Early Barrb Sound
In version 1.4, there was an early sound for Barrb on the Continent, which was likely a placeholder recorded by the game's composer Dave Kerr.
Space Island
Early Stogg Track 4
An early version of Stogg's fourth track on Space Island, which has a transition from the 3rd track.
Cave Island
Unused Thumpies Track
The Thumpies had an unused second track on Cave Island from 1.0 to 1.2. This sound can be heard in the OST version of Cave Island.
Unused Wynq Track
There is a sound for a track 1 for Wynq on Cave Island that also goes unused, and only track 2 is heard. Alongside the Thumpies' Cave Island track 2, this sound can be heard in the OST version of Cave Island. Unlike the Thumpies' Cave Island track 2, it can still be found in the files and even has an associated animation.
Sound Effects
Item Completed
An unused item completed sound that presumably would've played when an item was done being made. This was used in version 1.0.0 of Dawn of Fire.
XP Gain
An unused sound that was meant for gaining XP.
Changed Sounds
Some monsters have had their sounds changed after release.
The Continent
Flowah
1.0.0 - 1.1.0 | 1.2.0 Onwards |
---|---|
In versions 1.0.0 and 1.1.0, the second half of Flowah's Continent sound was different. In 1.2.0 onwards, the second half of its sound was changed to just be the first half repeated.
Floogull
1.0.0 - 1.1.0 | 1.2.0 Onwards |
---|---|
In version 1.2.0, Floogull's Continent sound was updated to make the sound louder and change the notes of the lower octave trumpet.
Pummel
1.0.0 - 1.1.0 | 1.2.0 - 1.5.0 | 1.5.1 Onwards |
---|---|---|
In version 1.2.0, Pummel's second track on the Continent was changed to be cut in half and slightly delayed, changing its rhythm when in the song. This was changed back in version 1.5.1, but with the track still cut in half.
Cloud Island
Tweedle
1.0.0 - 1.1.0 | 1.2.0 Onwards |
---|---|
In version 1.2.0, Tweedle's first track on Cloud Island was for some reason updated to replace the first note with the first note of its second track.
Tiawa
When Tiawa first released, its second track on Cloud Island mistakenly used its first track's sound. This was shortly fixed.
Unused Animations
Early and Unused Thumpies Animations
An early version of the young Thumpies' idle from version 1.0.0 and 1.1.0, which uses an older design with pacifiers.
More up to date but still early versions of the young Thumpies' animations from versions 1.2 and 1.4. These feature transitions into and out of the playing animations.
Two unused adult Thumpies animations for transitioning in and out of playing titled "lead_in" and "lead_out", which unlike the transition animations for the young Thumpies, still exist in the game files to this day. The animations exist for both the normal Thumpies and the Prismatic Thumpies. These animations make the Thumpies appear to teleport when they start and end, as they were made for an earlier version of their animations.
Speaking of those early animations, these are the animations that were meant to go with the lead_in and lead_out animations, which can be found in versions 1.2 and 1.4.
Early Young Candelavra Idle
From versions 1.0 to 1.5.1, young Candelavra had a different idle animation.
Early Wondermine Signpost
An early idle for the signpost that appears in place of monsters that are in the Wondermine. It's not animated and is missing the crystals that are in the final design.
Unused Models
Early Starhenge Model
In version 1.2.0 there was an early version of Starhenge.
Some of the differences include: A strange structure on the main island, presumably a placeholder for the Observatory.
The smaller platform is further away from the main island.
The elements and sand are missing.
Unused Monster Midi Tracks
FJ_Monster
FJ_Monster is an unused monster found in the Continent midi. The FJ in its name is its elements, with its elements being F, which is the fire element in Dawn of Fire and J, which is the shadow element in the original game (however these are likely not its elements, and are just random letters). It plays 3 times in total, at the start of the song, at Oaktopus' part, and at the second half of Kayna's part. There is a chance it could come into the game with different elements, though that's less likely now that every natural monster has been released.
FB_Monster
FB_Monster was a monster found in the Continent midi from versions 1.0 to 1.2. It played in the same parts as Yelmut and ended up being replaced by Yelmut in version 1.3, so it's safe to say it was Yelmut.
NF_Monster
NF_Monster could be found in the Cave Island midi in versions 1.0 to 1.2 when opening it in Notepad. It had no data except for the name, so it doesn't appear in software that can open midis such as FL Studio. It's either Yelmut or Wynq, as when it was removed in version 1.3 those monsters got added to the midi.
Bass_Play and base_Monster
There were tracks in the Continent midi from versions 1.0 to 1.7 called Bass_Play and Bass_Mute and a track in the Space Island midi from versions 1.0 to 1.9 called base_Monster. These were early tracks for Sneyser.
HooGah_Monster
HooGah_Monster was a monster that could be found in the Continent midi in version 1.3. It played in the same part as Barrb and was later replaced with Barrb in version 1.4, meaning that it was an early version of Barrb.
Recorder_Monster
In versions 1.5 to 1.7, there was a track in the Cave Island midi called Recorder_Monster. Recorder was an old codename for Krillby, being used in its text string codenames in early versions of 1.8.
ADCF_Monster
In 1.10 and 1.11 there was a track called ADCF_Monster in Party Island's midi. At first glance it may seem as if it's a track for Flum Ox, but in version 1.12 it was replaced by Edamimi; the letters were later rearranged to copy Edamimi's elements.
_Monster
In version 1.8 a whole bunch of tracks were added to the Continent midi as _Monster as placeholders for fire monsters. The first of these to be filled in was Tring in version 1.9, and the last to be filled in was Tiawa in version 2.5.0.
Unused Structures
Volcano
The Volcano (internally called deconstructor) is an unused structure that would break items down into their components, and break crystals into unused Essence items. It would have been unlocked with Earth Lands, due to its appearance on Mirror Earth Island in the original game.
Unused sounds for the Volcano
The tap sound:
The completion sound:
Structure Stats:
- Base Slots (1.0.0): 4
- Max Slots (1.0.0): 6
- Base Slots (1.1.0 - Present): 3
- Max Slots (1.1.0 - Present): 9
- Size: 3x3
- Unlock Level: 3 (likely a placeholder)
These are what you can get from each crystal:
- Vegidian Crystal: Plant Essence
- Frozium Crystal: Cold Essence
- Skylite Crystal: Air Essence
- Aquanine Crystal: Water Essence
- Stonyx Crystal: Earth Essence
- Pyrozite Crystal: Fire Essence
Whirlpool
This structure allows you to create items by putting random items into it. It would have been unlocked with Water Lands, due to its appearance on Mirror Water Island in the original game.
Unused sounds for the Whirlpool
The tap sound:
Structure Stats:
- Base Slots: 3
- Max Slots: 9
- Size: 3x3
The items you can make with this are:
- Breakfast Cereal
- Dart Board
- Healthy Smoothie
- Hot Chili
- Ice Cream Sandwich
- Jack-in-the-Box
- Layer Cake
- Rock Candy
- Saxophone
- Toy Plane
- Oddree Trap (Only in early versions of the game)
- Glitter Torch (Only in early versions of the game)
- Mud Spa (Only in early versions of the game)
- Funguy Rest (Only in early versions of the game)
Wishing Well
The use of this structure is currently unknown due to the lack of information on it, however it was unlocked with Water Lands due to its appearance on Mirror Water Island in the first game. It appears on the mirror island alongside the Whirlpool, suggesting they either co-existed or that the Wishing Well was a later iteration of the Whirlpool. It seems like the structure didn't make it too far in development, due to its only sprite being a placeholder put together image of the structure, and it not having any data aside from said sprite.
This structure could be seen on the old Continent map icon from 1.0.0 to 1.3.0.
Satellite
This structure was used to send updates and messages to players, before it was replaced by the Bulletin Board.
Piggy Bank
The Piggy Bank most likely would have had something to do with diamonds because of there being a diamond in the spritesheet (seen above).
When placed in game, it defaults to a sprite of the Whirlpool, another unused structure. Its use is currently unknown, although it does have a unique UI that appears when tapped on, which displays a flat shaded image of a piggy bank with a diamond count of 1,000 and a button saying "TEMP BREAK".
Referral Stand
This structure's sprites were initially added in 1.5.1, and was given data in 1.8.1. It would've likely worked similar to referral codes and the short lived community codes from the original My Singing Monsters, where you would enter another players friend code or a code from an MSM social media page to get a reward. This feature was later moved to the options menu during development before being scrapped. The name and description of the structure used to say "Referral Stand" and "Referral Stand Description", however they were later changed to "Placeholder".
Sound for the Referral Stand:
While this sound is the quest complete sound, it's located in structurereferral.asset. This is most likely because the sound was initially intended to play once a referral code was collected.
Unused Items
There are some unused items in Dawn of Fire, going unused either because the structure required to make them isn't used, or an item required to craft it isn't used (usually an essence). In version 2.9.0, all descriptions of these unused items were changed to replace their source with question marks, while the previously unused Nebulox, Aurorium and Quarritz crystals were put in game as part of the Prism Gate alongside the addition of Confettite.

Unused Star Charts
An early version of the Ocean's Tears star chart from 1.7.0, being based around Hornacles claw instead of an element. This only has 20 nodes unlike the usual 25.
A placeholder Star Chart, being in the shape of a Z, likely standing for Zodiac, the internal name for the Celestials. This was used for Core Aflame to Immortal Jolt and Cosmic Ooze to Weathered Winds in version 1.7.0.
Other Unused Content
Candelavra's Scrapped Elements
Candelavra's Elements were originally Air, Plant, Earth, and Fire, which are the elements that were later passed on to Tring.
Fire Lands
There exists some text files relating to a land on the continent called Fire Lands.
Referral Codes
Referral codes were supposed to be in Dawn of Fire, as there are lines of text talking about it. These work like the Community Codes from My Singing Monsters.
Oddities
Starhenge Spike
Present under Starhenge Island is a floating spike with some gears.
"Prismatic" Mimic
For some reason, the sprite sheet used for adult Mimic is called "monster_ABCDE_mimic_chromatic". "Chromatic" is the internal name for Prismatic monsters, but here it's just normal Mimic and not a Prismatic Mimic.
Early Costume Trunk Design
Icon | In-game/Final |
---|---|
The store icon for the Costume Trunk structure oddly uses an early version of its design, featuring brighter wood, a different head shape, and different items inside its mouth.
Unused Costume Trunk Variant
A unused version for the Costume Trunk is in its sprite sheet, it’s unknown what this could’ve been
Official PNG Oddities
Some images in the Dawn of Fire fan kit have some errors.
Young Quibble
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
The pupil on the green quibble head is flipped in the official PNG and the lower necks are taller than they are in-game.
Adult Pango
Normal | High Contrast |
---|---|
Adult Pango has a stock watermark hidden on its belly. Due to the high quality of the official PNGs, this watermark becomes visible, however it is hard to see.
Young Glowl
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
Young Glowl's left arm is slimmer in-game than it is in the official PNG.
Young Floogull
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
For some reason young Floogull's right eye in its official PNG is green. This may be a leftover from an early design, as the adult version has green eyes. Along with this, the image also uses Floogull's slightly closed eyelid sprites despite the eyelids not being visible when it's not blinking.
Adult Whaddle
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
The official PNG of adult Whaddle has different fur from the in-game design, being more smooth, while the in-game versions fur isn't as smooth. The inside of its right ears is also missing the pink.
Young Pummel
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
The right eye on young Pummel's official PNG uses an unfinished version of the pupil sprite, where it doesn't have any shading. It is also the same size at the left pupil, despite them being 2 different sizes in-game.
Young Wynq
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
Young Wynq's ears are different in its official PNG, with there not being any detail inside of them.
Young Sneyser
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
Young Sneyser's PNG seems to be an earlier version of its design, lacking its tooth and the crystals on its cheek as well as having a bigger eye.
Young Woolabee
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
Woolabee's official PNG has a different stomach color on the birds.
Adult Edamimi
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
The official PNG for adult Edamimi has 4 peas in its stalk which are located throughout the top and 5 beans on each arm, while in game it has 5 peas in its stalk which are all located towards the front and 4 beans on each arm.
Adult Drummidary
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
The official PNG for adult Drummidary has some slight differences from its in-game design, most notably being the shape of the spirals on its drums, where in-game the spirals are rounded but the official image has them looking more jagged. The green on its upper arm is also slightly different and the bottom cracks of its drums are glowing in the fan kit image.
Plixie
In-Game | Fan Kit |
---|---|
Plixie's official PNG is missing the eye sockets found in the in-game design. Though it's likely that the PNG is correct and the in-game design just simply has a layering error.
Internal Name
The internal name for Dawn of Fire's app package is "msm2". On dlc.bbbgame.net and dlc2.bbbgame.net, the sites used to store update files, it is called "monster_babies".
