Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Clock Tower: The First Fear is a 1997 PlayStation port of the original Clock Tower for the Super Famicom. It was never released outside of Japan, but like its SNES counterpart, it received an English fan translation.

Version Comparison

Graphics

Super Famicom PlayStation
Sharp graphics. Dithering. Edges in graphics were redrawn and appear less aliased but also less sharp. Less dithering.
Two font colors:
  • White for lines spoken by the characters.
  • Blue for Jennifer's inner monologue and for gameplay messages (picking items up etc.).
Only one font color (grey).
Only one single Japanese font throughout the entire game. Two Japanese fonts:
  • A rather basic font for the gameplay.
  • A more "artsy" font for the prologue, skeleton and ending cutscenes.
Dark lobby uses a uniquely drawn background image.

Bleaker colors and starker shadows give the room a creepier feel. A second table's edge is seen at the bottom of the screen.

Dark lobby uses the same background image as the lit version.

Merely adjusts its brightness and contrast via the engine. The second table's edge was removed from the background.
