These problems are mainly caused by economic pressure for industrialisation, technological advancement, population growth, poverty and ignorance. Western moral speculations like deep ecology, land ethic, ecofeminism and as well as scientific approaches methodologies have been employed in other to solve this problem. However these theories have been proven not to be very much effective. African eco-communitarianism as a hypothesis, implanted on Indigenous information framework can contribute to supply a local- developed answer for our current environmental issues. For Africa, environmental ethics is metaphysically embedded in what it means to be or to exist. Consequently, environmental ethics should be understood as stretching from the individual being to involve the communities of other persons, non-human persons as well the environment.

Airway management is a challenge to anaesthesiologist owing to contractures and deformity resulting in nonalignment of oral, pharyngeal and laryngeal planes for intubations. Severe post burn neck contracture results in difficult intubation, which can be life threatening and can result in multiple serious complications and sequels. We present the successful anaesthetic management of a patient with severely limited neck extension, fixed flexion deformity and microstomia by awake nasal fibreoptic intubation.

Appropriate follow up program would help in early interventions. Objective: The objective was to study the outcome of growth and development till one year of age of high risk infants discharged from a secondary level neonatal intensive care unit. Methodology: A prospective cohort study was conducted by Department of Pediatrics of Dr SMCSI Medical College for a period of 2 years in 47 high risk babies discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit. Physical parameter like weight, length and head circumference was recorded after delivery and at 4 th , 8 th and 12 months. Assessment of tone and development was done at 4, 8 and 12 months. Results: Out of the 47 high risk babies, 29 were preterm The mean weight gain was more in preterms which was nonsignificant but they had significant mean length gain. The increments in head circumference and tone abnormalities were more in preterms. Mean Development Quotient (DQ) in term and low birth weight infants were lower. Conclusions: Preterm had more rate of growth in all anthropometric measurements and a higher development quotient. An appropriate follow-up is a must in the early detection of growth failure and neurodisability to execute an effective early stimulation program.

Methods: The Alloaxan (ALX) model for the experimental induction of diabetes in rat. Animals were allocated into seven groups of six rats each: I Normal control group (NC) rats received distilled dihydrogen monoxide 10ml/kg, II diabetic group (DC) rats received 3% v/v Tween 80 in distilled water 10ml/kg, III diabetic rats fed with glibenclamide (GLB), IV & V fed with ELCN (50 and 100 mg/kg) and VI & VII fed with MLE (200 and 400 mg/kg). One-way ANOVA followed by post hoc test was acclimated to assess the consequential difference due to administration of ELCN and MLE. For in vivo antioxidant activity of ELCN and MLE, liver tissues were homogenized and were quantified reduced glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were performed in NC, DC, GLB and ELCN as well as in MLE treated rats. Results: In alloxan-induced diabetic rats, both the ELCN and MLE decremented blood sugar levels and body weight at the cessation of 1st, 2nd and 3rd week after test extract treatment. Antioxidant enzymes activities such as CAT, SOD and GSH levels significantly decremented in the plasma and liver of diabetic rats compared to controls. The nanonization of extract lesser the dose, increment the bioavailability and specificity of required action. Conclusions: Findings of this study sanction us to establish scientifically ELCN and MLE as a potent antidiabetic agent with antioxidant effects.

This randomized, controlled, double blind study was conducted to compare the attenuation of hemodynamic responses to tracheal extubation in 150 patients of ASA I and II, undergoing elective surgery by using either verapamil 0.05 mg/kg or 0.1mg/kg with control group receiving saline. On completion of surgery, anaesthetic agents were discontinued, residual muscle relaxation reversed. The study drug was administered using double blind technique and patient extubated 2 minutes later. Changes in heart rate (HR), systolic arterial pressure (SAP), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and rate pressure product (PR×SBP) were recorded during and after tracheal extubation. This study showed that both the doses of intravenous verapamil attenuated the increases in these variables. The inhibitory effect was greatest with verapamil 0.1 mg/ kg, while the alleviative effect of verapamil 0.05mg/ kg was inferior. These findings suggest that a bolus injection of verapamil 0.1 mg/kg given 2 min before tracheal extubation is a more effective prophylactic for attenuating the cardiovascular changes associated with extubation than 0.05mg/kg dose.

These tumours are benign, but some of the variants and secondary changes may create diagnostic difficulties. Objectives: This study was conducted to identify the secondary changes and variants of leiomyomas, especially those mimicking malignancy and to assess the histopathological features which help to differentiate them from malignant tumours. Method: Hysterectomy and myomectomy specimens received over a period of two years were studied. Detailed gross and microscopic examination of the leiomyomas was done. Results: 200 specimens (hysterectomy and myomectomy) were studied in which 545 leiomyomas were examined (seedling leiomyomas were excluded). Ages of patients ranged from 20 years to 72 years with peak incidence in the 4 th decade. Secondary changes were observed in 24.2% cases and histological variants comprised 7.5% of the cases. The histological variants which posed diagnostic difficulties were cellular leiomyomas, atypical leiomyoma, epithelioid leiomyoma, and leiomyomas with secondary changes including haemorrhagic infarction, myxoid change and perinodular hydropic change. Conclusion: Uterine leiomyomas are common benign tumours in gynaecological histopathology specimens. However, secondary changes and morphological variants especially those with increased cellularity, increased mitoses and nuclear atypia create diagnostic problems. A thorough examination and adherence to the standard diagnostic criteria is required to rule out malignancy.
