Eta Pramca
Eta Pramca (lat. Eta Carinae, η Car) je jedna od najenigmatičnijih poznatih zvezda. Nalazi se u sazvežđu Pramac, u emisionoj maglini NGC 3372 (zvanoj i „Maglina ete Pramca“). U vreme kada su pravljeni katalozi južnih zvezda, eta Pramca je bila treće magnitude, ali je od 1833. godine njen sjaj počeo značajno da varira. Sa magnitudom od -0,8, bila je druga najsjajnija zvezda noćnog neba, odmah posle Sirijusa, 1843. godine. Uz udaljenost procenjenu na oko 8000 svetlosnih godina, bila je 4.000.000 puta luminoznija od Sunca. Tom prilikom je izbačen materijal koji je formirao Homunkulus maglinu koja se vidi kao dve lopte na čijem spoju se nalazi eta Pramca. I sama eta Pramca je najverovatnije dvojna zvezda koja se sastoji od dve komponente masa oko 80 masa Sunca međusobno udaljene oko 20 AJ. Nakon ove erupcije, sjaj ete Pramca je počeo da se smanjuje, pre svega usled materijala koji je zaklanja. Najniža zabeležena magnituda je iznosila 7,9, dok danas iznosi 6,2. U infracrvenom delu spektra, eta Pramca je najsjajniji izvor izvan Sunčevog sistema. Eta Pramca je promenljiva zvezda tipa S Doradus, sa periodom od 5,52 godine. S obzirom na njenu ogromnu masu, najverovatnije će svoju evoluciju završiti kao supernova, u (na astronomskim skalama) bliskoj budućnosti. Ipak, kako se nalazi u maglini, nije moguće pouzdano odrediti kada će se to desiti, niti spektralni tip, paralaksu ili apsolutnu magnitudu ove zvezde.[23][24]
