Retro Framers
- For the similarly named headgear item produced by Splash Mob, see Retro Specs.
The Retro Framers are headgear in Splatoon 3.
They are a 2-star item produced by Enperry and come with the primary ability Opening Gambit. They must first be unlocked through leveling up the Drizzle Season 2022 catalog to level 79, then they can be purchased from Naut Couture for 9,900. They can only be ordered from another player after being unlocked.
They can also be unlocked through leveling up the Drizzle Season 2023 Catalog to level 90 as part of the Lime Battlecrab Shell Outfit.
Appearance
The Retro Framers are a pair of black glasses with jagged rims, giving the illusion that they were pixelated. An Enperry logo text can be seen on the left temple. Both temples change color to match the user's ink.
Splatoon 3
The Retro Framers was first revealed in the announcement trailer for Splatoon 3 on 17 February 2021. Their name was revealed on 27 May 2022.[1][2]
Abilities
The Retro Framers come with Opening Gambit as the primary ability when purchased from a shop or ordered from Murch, which, being exclusive to the main slot of Headgear, prevents the wearer from also having Comeback, Last-Ditch Effort, or Tenacity. When purchased from SplatNet 3, they come with any other primary ability normally available to Headgear. As a 2-star item, the Retro Framers come with three additional slots for secondary abilities. The star level may be increased with Super Sea Snails for 1 (first), 1 (second), 5 (third), 10 (fourth), or 20 (fifth) Super Sea Snails per star, or by purchasing additional copies of them from Naut Couture for 10,000 (first), 30,000 (second), 50,000 (third), 100,000 (fourth), or 200,000 (fifth) Cash per star. Increasing the star level beyond 2 stars will increase the gear experience gained by a cumulative 3.333…% up to 10% additional experience at 5-star level. Since they are made by the Enperry gear brand, they have a higher chance of rolling Sub Power Up and a lower chance of rolling Ink Resistance Up to fill their secondary ability slots.

Trivia
- The glasses may be a reference to the classic internet meme "thug life" where the individual is seen wearing pixelated glasses.
- They are worn by the secondary Inkling on the game's cover, along with the Gold Dynamo Roller, Manatee Swag Sweat, and Tenya OctoReds.
