I am a medical librarian at Semmelweis University Budapest Institute of Behavioural Sciences Library with a background of multidisciplinary research team for more than twenty years. I observed there is a significant imperfection in the field of LGBTI persons health literature in my country, both for children and adolescents, and adults. So I started my research on LGBTI health, mental health and professional support for LGBTI adolescents and patrons in libraries in 2007.

The topic of sexuality and homosexuality in particular is not yet explored. Health sciences and public health have not yet fulfilled its role of processing the literature of homosexuality systematically and of integrating this topic into health systems and health education. The opinion on homosexuality has recently changed in medical diagnosis. It is not considered to be a sexual deviance therefore a homosexual person cannot receive a diagnosis of „having a mental disorder” based on their sexual orientation. LGBT ( Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) young people begin to take part in the networks of society under the age of 18. What can a library and a librarian do? What kind of information demand do young LGBT people have? This article provide information on these issues for librarians concerned.
